Producer Christina Wayne Pacts with Endemol Studios

Christina Wayne has hung out her own production shingle in a pod deal with Endemol Studios.

Pact is the first of its kind for Endemol’s Los Angeles-based scripted development arm.

Wayne brings her Assembly Entertainment banner to Endemol after spending the past three years as prexy of Cineflix Studios. She first made her mark as a development exec during her earlier tenure at AMC, where she shepherded “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” to great acclaim. She also worked with Endemol in the early development of the AMC’s “Hell on Wheels,” which is now heading into its fourth season.

“Endemol has built an impressive scripted business in a short period of time,” Wayne said.

Wayne’s departure from Cineflix was hastened by the Canadian company’s decision to scale back its scripted development biz and channeling most projects through its Buccaneer Media joint venture with British producer Tony Wood.

TV Producer-Turned-Film Director Tony Krantz Sells 8 TV Projects, Including Natalie Portman-Produced ‘Scruples’ Adaptation

Eliot Spitzer's Out As CNN Revamps Its Prime Time Shows
It's not as bad as having to resign in disgrace as New York's governor after a sex scandal. But Eliot Spitzer still has to look for a new gig now that CNN says his low-rated weeknight talk show In The Arena didn't make the network's new line-up that will debut Aug. 8. He'll be replaced at 8:00 Pm Et by Anderson Cooper's AC360, which will re-air at 10:00. That show will be preceded at 7:00 by an unnamed general news show hosted by former CNBC anchor Erin Burnett. And Piers Morgan Tonight will remain at 9:00. Ken Jautz, Evp of CNN/U.S. says that the network is "in discussions with Eliot Spitzer about an alternative role. We thank him and the entire In the Arena team for creating a program that moved many political and economic issues into the national spotlight.” Spitzer adds in a statement that his show

CNN/U.S. President Jonathan Klein Out; Hln Network V.P. Ken Jautz In

Today CNN announced the departure of CNN/U.S. president Jonathan Klein. “Our colleague Jon Klein is leaving CNN. Jon’s six years as head of CNN/U.S. are reflected in the quality of our coverage of signal news events during his tenure,” CNN Worldwide president Jim Walton told employees in an e-mail. The Associated Press has characterized Klein’s exit as a firing, and The New York Times adds that Klein did not come into work today. (On the bright side, three-day weekend.) “The CNN I’m leaving today is demonstrably stronger than the one I inherited almost six years ago—both editorially and financially,” Klein said this morning.

CNN Shakeup: Jon Klein Out, Ken Jautz In

CNN is a ratings mess right now, and the cable news channel is bringing in the guy who talent-scouted Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace, and Joy Behar to fix it. Piers Morgan: I won't be CNN's Glenn Beck

Piers Morgan: I won't be CNN's Glenn Beck
Piers Morgan, finally confirmed Wednesday as veteran talk show host Larry King's replacement, spoke to THR after last month's Emmys and again Wednesday morning, along with CNN president Jonathan Klein. What should viewers expect from the new primetime show, to kick off this January? Morgan wants to get CNN back to No. 1 in the ratings without being an opinionated pundit like Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly. He also has a few ideas for his first guests. Read more on Hibberd's Live Feed blog.

THR: You have a tougher interviewing reputation than Larry King. Do you plan to bring that to CNN?

Morgan: I've always disputed that Larry is in any way a softball interviewer. In his very stylish crafty way, he's always been brilliant at getting stuff out of people, so I've always admired him hugely. Although I'm a different kind of interviewer, we share the same thing -- a fascination about people,

Piers Morgan replaces Larry King on CNN

Piers Morgan replaces Larry King on CNN
CNN has made it official: Reality TV personality Piers Morgan will replace Larry King.

The network will launch a primetime interview program in January hosted by the "America's Got Talent" judge.

The British-born Morgan has long had a journalism career in the U.K. as a newspaper editor at the Daily Mirror and host of the program "Piers Morgan's Life Stories." CNN struck a deal with NBC that will allow Morgan to continue his work on "Got Talent." He's also expected to continue hosting "Life Stories."

Sources say Morgan's shift in the U.S. from reality talent to replacing the veteran interviewer started more than a year ago, with Morgan meeting with former NBC co-chair Ben Silverman about the possibility of doing primetime interview shows.

In January, Morgan's agent John Ferriter at Octagon Entertainment approached CNN about the idea of Morgan doing an interview show on the network.

Scandal Glossary: The Complicated Past of Piers Morgan, Larry King’s Replacement

Today CNN announced that it has selected Piers Morgan to replace Larry King as host of Larry King Live, the name of which it will presumably change. Congratulations, Piers Morgan! “We are delighted that he will now bring his dynamic, probing interview style to American television and to CNN viewers around the globe,” said CNN/U.S. president Jonathan Klein. Yanks will likely know Morgan from his participation on Celebrity Apprentice and America’s Got Talent, but across the Atlantic, the British gossip fixture has acquired a more controversial standing. Morgan is something of the rowdy, misbehaving second cousin to King’s affable, earnest grandfather. What follows is a cheat sheet to the many scandals of Piers Morgan. Cut it out and carry it in your wallet to stay informed and well spoken at the watercooler.

Spitzer landing at CNN?

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer -- itchy to get back in the spotlight after the hooker scandal that toppled him -- may have found a job at CNN. Reports began to circulate yesterday that Spitzer could become a panelist on a nightly "Crossfire"-type show that would replace the departing Campbell Brown at 8 p.m. CNN yesterday refused to comment on what it called a rumor -- but reliable insiders say such a scenario is plausible. "They're always hiring political types and he's out there and making the

CNN sees threat from social networking sites

New York -- CNN is more concerned about competition from social networks than other cable news networks, CNN U.S. president Jonathan Klein said here Wednesday.

"The competition I'm really afraid of are social networking sites," he said in a keynote interview at Bloomberg BusinessWeek's Media Summit New York. They provide "an alternative that threatens to pull people away from us."

After all, Facebook friends and Twitter members are "trusted news sources," Klein explained. "That's a challenge, and we got to rise to that challenge."

CNN is looking to be a key place people link to online as a result, he said in explaining one strategy to deal with that challenge.

Asked whether it bothers him that CNN came in third in U.S. ratings last year, Klein said those rankings are based on primetime figures, but he likes to take a broader view across day parts. For example, he

CNN has named senior political correspondent Candy Crowley the new anchor of CNN's Sunday morning program "State of the Union."

As part of the transition on Sunday, "State of the Union" will become an hourlong show from 9-10 a.m. (under King, it was a four-hour affair.)

"Candy's rare combination of shrewd insight and healthy irreverence for the games politicians play has made her one of the most honored political journalists and a cult figure among CNN viewers," said Jonathan Klein, president of CNN/U.S.
