'Pirates 5': Johnny Depp Injured, Production Impacted Minimally

11 March 2015 8:17 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It hasn't been a safe month for Disney's most iconic actors. First Star Wars: The Force Awakens legend Harrison Ford crashes his plane on a golf course. And now, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales star Johnny Depp has injured his hand in Australia, while on location for his upcoming sequel. Don't worry too much though, production is only being 'minimally impacted' and the accident will not affect the July 7th, 2017 release date.

Johnny Depp was not filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5 when the injured occurred. He did have to be flown back to the United States for surgery on his hand. A spokesperson for Disney later confirmed the incident. Dead Men Tell No Tales only began shooting last month, and it is scheduled to wrap sometime this summer.

Oscar-nominated Kon-Tiki filmmakers Espen Sandberg and Joachim R&#248nning are directing this time out, with the »

Kaya Scodelario May Board Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

22 January 2015 8:31 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Disney is taking its time with the upcoming fifth installment of its massively successful Pirates series, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, hopefully because the studio recognized the need to reorient the franchise after 2011’s middling On Stranger Tides. We’ve heard from Orlando Bloom that the fivequel may act as a soft reboot, and that many new actors will board the franchise in major parts. Now, we’ve learned that Disney is zeroing in on The Maze Runner actress Kaya Scodelario for the lead female role.

Scodelario, who starred on the popular British series Skins before making the lead to blockbuster fare in last fall’s dystopian Maze Runner, is in early talks for the gig, according to Deadline. No details yet on who she will play outside of that the character will serve as a love interest for recently cast Brenton Thwaites, but Scodelario seems »
