Described as “Kill Bill meets Drive,” Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke will star in noir revenge thriller called Marble City, from director Ryuhei Kitamura. Cage has been in a more of a rut than usual as of late, heading two little-seen VOD releases Seeking Justice and Trespass and the horrendous comic book sequel that was Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Rourke however has been a rather popular property as of late and just signed on to reprise his role of Marv in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Back Together At Last: Nicolas Cage & Mickey Rourke To Have A Crazy-Off In 'Marble City'

17 May 2012 5:15 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Guys and girls, we have some news: Cinema is over. Not that it's being replaced or anything, but if you're a professional screenwriter or director, it might be time to start looking for work in another industry. Because the movies have entered their endgame: some time in 2013, the artform will reach the aim it was created for, and present-day Nicolas Cage and present-day Mickey Rourke will share a screen together. And after that, there will be no point in making any new movies.

The two actors appeared together at the start of their careers in 1983's "Rumble Fish," of course, but that was when they were young, and handsome, and in control of their mental faculties. And they've passed like ships in the night over the years: there was talk that they might both appear in "The Expendables 2," although it never came to pass, while Cage was briefly attached to »

Cage And Rourke Head For Marble City

17 May 2012 5:02 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

This morning's other Mickey Rourke story sees him teaming up with Nicolas Cage for the action revenge noir Marble City. Director Ryuhei Kitamura promises "vengeance on a road filled with rage, bullets and ultra-violence," in a mash-up of Drive and Kill Bill. Drive Angrier, anyone?Marble City is one of those screenplays that's been knocking around Hollywood for years. Way back in 2006 it was being prepped as a vehicle for Dmx, before he left and was replaced by Ving Rhames. The director at that time was going to be Jim Vickers, a stunt coordinator on movies like Mr & Mrs Smith and Hancock (he was also, alarmingly, "kidnap consultant" on Borat). Since the film failed to come together at that time, Vickers has still yet to make his directorial debut, although he recently shot second unit on The Legends Of Nethiah.Kitamura, who's bagged the job this time around, made the »

Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke Pair Up for ‘Marble City’; Kate Beckinsale and Nick Nolte Leading ‘Cate McCall’

17 May 2012 3:53 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

It’s a pairing made in both heaven and hell. As a press release from Stealth Media Group reports, Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke — “his career should have crashed” and “his career will crash over and over again” — are planning to collaborate on Marble City, a revenge picture succinctly described as “Kill Bill meets Drive.” That’s all well and good, but a better way to describe it would be, in terms of plot, “a journey of a newly released prisoner who seeks revenge on those that put him inside.”

Director Ryûhei Kitamura (Midnight Mean Train) — who sees it as “the story of a man who finds his inner peace through vengeance” — will work from the Thomas Sjölund-penned screenplay, while Cage and Rourke will go head-to-head in a battle of overacting that’s sure to ultimately underwhelm our socks into a slight breeze. Well, okay, it’s possible I »

Mickey Rourke & Nicolas Cage Ready for Noir Action in 'Marble City'

17 May 2012 2:22 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

It's hard to think of modern film noir without thinking about Sin City (and its sequel, which just got a release date). One of that film's stars, Mickey Rourke, is returning to the genre, and this time he's bringing Nicolas Cage along with him. ComingSoon says the two will co-star in Marble City for The Midnight Meat Train director Ryuhei Kitamura. It's a revenge story about a newly released prisoner who hunts down the man who put him behind bars, which is a pretty common theme we're seeing in a lot of films these days. Marble City is described as "Kill Bill meets Drive," and actually sets the bar really damn high. The film is being hailed as a "high action and close combat fighting picture," so it sounds like we can look forward to Rourke and Cage going head to head in some pretty brutal fight sequences. Sales Art for the Nicolas Cage Actioner Marble City is Vaguely Disturbing

16 May 2012 7:00 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

The image you see embedded below is oddly hypnotic. Look at the picture for ten seconds, then try to stop. It’s kind of difficult. You know, I really want to see a Nicolas Cage movie directed by “Versus” mastermind Ryuhei Kitamura, but only if Cage looks exactly like he does in the sales art. Unfortunately, I don’t think they can deliver the goods. Unless, of course, they CGI Nic’s head onto The Rock’s body. Now there’s an idea. Anyway, here’s what the film is supposed to be about: Rune enters Marble City after serving ten years for armed robbery; with an eye patch covering his scarred and mangled eye, he’s full of hate and vengeance. Even though on parole, Rune immediately steals a car, picks up two nickel-plated .45′s and goes on a violent search for the man that wronged him. His investigation »

Nicolas Cage's Photoshopped Abs Star In Ryuhei Kitamura's Marble City

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you what may be the greatest, most ridiculous poster ever made for a movie which does not yet exist. Freshly arrived in Cannes I made my first foray into the Marche du Film - the market area separate from the main festival where films are bought and sold for international distribution - and the first thing I discovered was this: The sales art for a proposed new film by Versus and Midnight Meat Train director Ryuhei Kitamura titled Marble City, featuring a wildly photoshopped Nicolas Cage in the lead.Rune enters Marble City after serving ten years for armed robbery; with an eye patch covering his scarred and mangled eye, he's full of hate and vengeance.Even though on parole, »

Review: Versus (Personal Favorites #36)

25 April 2012 4:11 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

There is no doubt that Versus was Ryuhei Kitamura's (LoveDeath) break-through film. His two earlier efforts made little or no splash in the film world, but once Kitamura released Versus doors started to open. As often the case, Kitamura never managed to match the genius of his break-through film, then again it makes the original all the more special. Even though this low-budget vehicle is already more than 10 years old, there's still plenty of life left in it.Trying to find the exact source of the current Japanese wave of splatter films is quite tricky (I would say The Machine Girl), but I'm pretty confident Versus provided plenty of inspiration for the Sushi Typhoon collective. It's a film that isn't constrained by any genre boundaries. »

Gemma Arterton Signs up for a Remake of the Japanese Movie 2Ldk aka The Wright Girls

10 April 2012 8:04 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Yukihiko Tsutsumi’s original “2Ldk” was the second half of a “Duel” project with fellow director Ryuhei Kitamura, when the two guys decided they wanted to duel (get it?) by making a quickie movie set in a limited locale with two actors. While Kitamura did his usual Samurai thing (dude loves the Samurai thing), Tsutsumi elected to pit two women, both wannabe actresses, against each other in an apartment setting. The winner gets the TV role of a lifetime. That’s the simple premise of “2Ldk” (the “Duel” films were constructed to be simple to cut down on the production time), and it sounds like the Hollywood remake, now called “The Wright Girls”, will follow a similar premise, with Gemma Arterton already signed up to play one of the two women. This time around, though, the two women are co-stars on a TV show who are both competing for the »

Kane works ahead in See No Evil (image: WWF Films)

Ryûhei Kitamura, director of Versus and Midnight Meat Train, has teamed up with WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Studios on No One Lives, a nasty new film that promises to continue the filmmaker’s penchant for grisly goodies. WWE VP Stephanie McMahon is confident the project will deliver some brutal goods, as related in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “We’re in post production right now on a hardcore horror film called No One Lives, which stars Luke Evans from Immorals.” Hardcore, huh? I suppose the WWE might know a thing or two about that.

Synopsis (courtesy WWE Studios and Milk & Media):

No One Lives is the brutal tale about a gang of ruthless highway killers who kidnap a wealthy couple traveling cross country only to shockingly discover that things are not what they seem.”
