Bette Midler isn’t a fan of the Hocus Pocus remake

Last month it was announced that Disney is remaking the cult classic Hocus Pocus as a TV movie for The Disney Channel.

The film’s original producer David Kirschner is on board, although the project – penned by Scarlett Lacey (The Royals) – will feature a new cast taking over from Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.

While original director Kenny Ortega has previously given his blessing to the remake, the same can’t be said for Bette Midler, who categorically ruled out a cameo by stating “No, no, no!” during an interview with People.

“I know it’s cheap,” said Midler. “It’s going to be cheap! I’m not sure what they’re going to do with my character. My character is very, very broad and I don’t know who they’re going to find to play that.”

Bette Midler Slams Disney Channel's Hocus Pocus Remake: "It's Going to Be Cheap!"

Bette Midler thinks Disney Channel's remake of Hocus Pocus will be "cheap." Back in September, E! News learned that Disney Channel is working on a remake of the classic Halloween movie. A spokesperson for Disney Channel confirmed at the time that the project is in early development and producer David Kirschner, who worked on the original 1993 movie, is set to executive produce. One person not on board with the project? Midler, who played the iconic role of Winifred Sanderson in the film. While attending the New York Restoration Project's Hulaween event on Monday, the actress shared her thoughts on the remake and whether she would be involved during an...

Bette Midler Has Some Savage Thoughts About the Hocus Pocus Remake: "It's Cheap!"

It's been a solid month since we learned Hocus Pocus is getting the reboot treatment, but we're still not sure if we'll ever get used to the idea. Judging from Bette Midler's recent quotes about the news, we're definitely not alone. While hosting the New York Restoration Project's Hulaween party over the weekend, Midler took a quick break to share her thoughts about how she sees the remake coming together with People. "I know it's cheap," she said. "It's going to be cheap!" Well, damn. We should've known Midler would be the last one to hold back her opinion about the beloved 1993 Halloween film, especially when it comes to her performance as iconic red-headed witch Winifred Sanderson. There are few people who could ever step into her pointy boots, and she knows it. "I'm not sure what they're going to do with my character," she added. "My character is very,

Sorry Hocus Pocus fans, but don’t expect to see a Bette Midler cameo in the upcoming Disney Channel remake.

The actress expressed her doubts over the beloved Halloween family movie reboot, telling People she expects the TV movie to be “cheap.”

“I know it’s cheap. It’s going to be cheap!” she told People Monday at the New York Restoration Project’s Hulaween party, which Midler hosts.

And when it comes to Midler’s original character of lead witch Winifred Sanderson, the actress said it’ll be tough to recast the role.

“I’m not sure what they

Disney developing Hocus Pocus TV reboot

Deadline is reporting that The Disney Channel is in early development on a TV movie reboot of the cult classic Hocus Pocus, which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy who are inadvertently resurrected in present day Salem, Massachusetts.

The reboot is being penned by Scarlett Lacey (The Royals), with the film’s original producer David Kirschner serving as executive producer. It will however feature a new cast, with a new director also coming on board.

Released in 1993, Hocus Pocus was a modest success at the box office, but has become a firm cult favourite thanks to DVD and TV airings. Rumours of a sequel have circulated over the past few years, with the original cast expressing their interest in returning, although this TV reboot seems to have put an end to those plans.

Good Guys Finish First: Don Mancini’S Durably Deranged Killer Doll Returns In Cult Of Chucky

Let’s talk memorable movie killers for a second. Since Mrs. Bates first slashed her way through the shower curtain in Room 1 of that roadside motel in Psycho (1960), franchise-minded murderers have had a hard time of it in the consistency department, regardless of how strong they may have lunged out of the gate. Established classics of the genre, like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street have all given birth to an array of sequels, remakes and reboots that may have extended their nasty protagonists’ shelf life, but none could approach their origins in terms of frights or filmmaking quality.

The exception to this rule of inconsistency and ever-diminishing returns in serial killer movie franchises seems to be the maniac who may have been the most unlikely to succeed, or certainly to endure, to begin with. He would be Charles Lee Ray (played with customary intensity

(David Kirschner, one of the original producers, is serving as an executive producer.) Remakes, of course, are one of the hottest...
