He played F.R. Leavis in the play, "The Last Romantics," at the Greenwich Theatre in London, England with Robert Langdon Lloyd (played Arthur Quiller Couch) and Maggie Steed in the cast.

Character actor, the son of a blacksmith, who had a long career on the West End stage. Began working life as a shipping clerk and in his youth was a junior boxing champion. Schooled in Greenwich, he studied acting at Toynbee Hall and Lamda and made his theatrical debut in 1952.
