As expected, “La La Land” came away with the live-action sound mixing award at Saturday’s 53rd Cinema Audio Society (Cas) Awards. Damien Chazelle’s valentine to Hollywood musicals is now a sure bet to win the Best Sound Mixing Oscar. (Sound Editing is still a race.)
Meanwhile, Pixar’s “Finding Dory” upset Disney’s “Zootopia” for animated feature honors. And HBO’S “The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble” earned the first-ever Cas documentary award.
TV winners included “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” (movie or miniseries), “Game of Thrones,” which grabbed its fourth consecutive award for “Battle of the Bastards” (one-hour), “Modern Family: The Storm” (1/2-hour), and “Grease Live!” (specials),
Oscar-nominated sound engineer John Pritchett (“Road to Perdition,” “Memories of a Geisha”) received the Career Achievement Award and Jon Favreau won the Filmmaker Award for “The Jungle Book’s” innovative sound.

The Cinema Audio Society has announced its nominees for the 53rd Annual Cas Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2016 in seven categories.
On the film side, strong contenders like “La La Land,” “Rogue One” and “Zootopia” picked up nods, while television series like “Game of Thrones,” “blackish” and “Stranger Things” also received nominations. For the first year, the Cas is honoring Documentary films, with nods like “O.J.: Made in America” and “13th” rounding out this inaugural category.
Missing from the film nods are more than a few surprises, including “Deepwater Horizon,” “The Jungle Book” and “Silence.”
“We are blessed this year with a rich portfolio of Cinema Audio art applied. As the creative contributions of sound mixing to modern filmmaking becomes more obvious to the world at large, these productions truly represent the talents of our community,” said Mark Ulano, Cas President, of the announcement.

20th Century Fox released their new comedy flick, "The Other Woman," into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty entertaining, serving up a lot of silly comedy, drama, and more. It stars: Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kate Upton, Taylor Kinney, and Nicki Minaj. In the new flick, Cameron Diaz's character, Carly Whitten is dating character, Mark King, and everything seems great. However, we're shown that everything isn't so great as Mark is spotted in bed with another woman that just so happens to be his wife! Eventually Carly discovers Mark is married when she tried to surprise him at his home and got his wife, Kate King (Leslie Mann), instead. From there, Kate starts getting all up in Carly's grill to get answers about what Mark has been doing behind her back. They eventually bond over the fact that they were both lied to.

While I can't say "The Other Woman" is a good movie, I can say that it features at least one thing that is genuinely worth seeing. The film that I kept thinking of as I watched this one was the Colin Higgins mega-hit "9 To 5," with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton teaming up to kick the living crap out of their chauvinist boss Dabney Coleman. While I'm not sure I'd feel like that film held up if I saw it now, it tapped a very potent sense of simmering outrage. It was a well-timed shot across the bow in the cultural conversation on changing roles for women in the workplace. "The Other Woman," on the other hand, is a largely ridiculous look at crappy rich white people who seem to have nothing to worry about besides what they do with their naughty bits. This is the feature debut of screenwriter Melissa Stack,...

Leslie Mann, Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton are three ladies you shouldn't mess with! "The Other Woman" is a comedic look at what happens when three women, who are played by the same man, seek revenge in the best kind of way. Leslie steals the screen as Kate King, the poor wife of Mark King, who discovered her husband is having numerous extramarital affairs. Leslie's character is both naive yet endearing as she tries to teach her cheating husband a lesson. By far, Kate is the funniest character in the movie. From her 1950s housewife style to her drunken stupors and her relentless enthusiasm for payback, she's always bringing the laughs when on the screen. Cameron's character (Carly Whitten) -- while more in-tune with reality -- is smart, calculated and basically just a bad bitch. Carly is a great contrast to Kate, and the ladies make one amazing duo in the flick.

Even those who are not well-versed with the American cinema of the 1970s have probably heard of writer/director John Cassavetes. He is considered the godfather of independent film in America, a figure who influenced low-budget filmmaking more than any other person not named Robert Redford. His films, which include Seconds and A Woman Under the Influence, are raw, revealing, semi-improvised explorations of marital life, sex, music, romance, suburban ennui, infidelity, aging and death.
However, the apple falls very far from the tree. John’s son, director Nick Cassavetes, is known for making sap, his filmography full of emotionally-charged titles like The Notebook, John Q and My Sister’s Keeper. However, with his latest film, the female revenge comedy The Other Woman, Nick transplants some of the plot elements from his father’s films – notably, Faces, about a man’s infidelity with a much younger woman – into a dumb, pathetic mess of slapstick miscues.

After discovering her boyfriend is married (Cameron Diaz) tries to get her ruined life back on track. But when she accidently meets the wife he's been cheating on (Leslie Mann) she realizes they have much in common and her sworn enemy becomes her greatest friend. When yet another affair is discovered (Kate Upton), all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on their cheating, lying, three timing husband Mark King (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).
What drew you guys to this script?
Cameron Diaz: There was nothing like this out there. Usually when it's a story about three women all being involved with the same man it usually ends with eyeballs being scratched out. We decided that wasn't the story we wanted to tell and we didn't want it to be a story about revenge but to have this event be a catalyst to bring them together. It's not only a...

Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer, right? Especially when they're the ladies your man is cheating on you with!
In "The Other Woman," Mark King (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, aka the Kingslayer on "Game of Thrones") is cheating on his wife Kate (Leslie Mann) with Carly (Cameron Diaz). Obviously, it's a pretty rude awakening for them both, but imagine their horror when they discover there's a third woman -- and she's an ultra babe?
In this exclusive clip from "The Other Woman," Carly and Kate discuss their discovery of Amber, played by Kate Upton. "I think it's good that she's super hot, because I feel like it brings up our group average," says Kate.
There aren't any pillow fights -- that we know of -- but there's some bumping and grinding, romping, and bonding over the ingestion of illicit substances. "If we find any more mistresses, I'm going to have to send [Kate] to rehab,...

Synopsis:
Author Mark King takes us on an adventure in his new novel, Frenzy, with lead character, Daniel Jones, who in the midst of his quiet farm life has stumbled upon a sinister secret that changes his life completely.
I don’t know how I got it in my head that Frenzy was a vampire book, maybe the glossy finish with the blood dripping of the title but I didn’t have any clue what the book was about going into it. The book isn’t about vampires. I’m not knocking vampire stories, but this book is much more creative, much more compelling and its mysterious Over-seers much more menacing than any vampire.
Without being too spoilery, Daniel Jones begins the story as a small town farm boy who uncovers a secret so big that...

Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend I plan on sinking my teeth into more than just turkey. I’ve got author Mark King’s novel Frenzy ready and waiting to be torn into. It’s a dystopian novel looking to take a place alongside The Hunger Games on your book shelf. Nothing like a little dystopian escapism to go with your turkey coma.
Here’s a short excerpt from the book.

Pete Townshend, The Feeling and Boy George were part of a star-studded line up that rocked the Royal Albert Hall for The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala supported by Novae.
The music extravaganza, hosted by Edith Bowman and Patrick Kielty, raised vital funds – and the roof – for the youth charity’s vital work with disadvantaged young people. The fundraiser comes in the wake of news that more than a million 16 to 24 year-olds are out of work, the highest number since records began in 1992.
