The Cannes Film Festival, like most major film festivals, is where studios deal behind the scenes to acquire films, although Cannes has the added touch of also packaging movies (which is why we've seen so many casting stories) and selling existing properties to foreign buyers. Lionsgate managed to sell nine of their movies, and their press release contains brief synopses for each of the films. Some confirm what we already know, some provide new information, and some are Step Up 5 ("Fifth installment of Summit Entertainment’s successful Step Up franchise"). Hit the jump for the synopses as well as the cast and above-the-line crew. Jennifer Lawrence attended the Cannes Film Festival yesterday (May 18) to promote her upcoming film release The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook star was joined by castmates Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne) and Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair), and the franchise's new director Francis Lawrence.
Also in attendance were Lionsgate co-chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman alongside Hunger Games producers Jon Kilik and Nina Jacobsen.
Lionsgate held a Capitol City party at the Majestic Barriere hotel - complete with flaming digital billboards, chocolate waterfalls and models decked in Capitol costumes - as the studio used Cannes as a global platform to launch the sequel with its international distributors.
Catching Fire, which opens in cinemas on November 22, will see Katniss and Peeta embark on a district-wide 'Victor's Tour'. As unrest spreads through Panem, President Snow prepares to send Katniss back into the arena for the 'Quarter Quell' 75th annual Hunger Games. »

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever. »

Every year at the Cannes Film Festival, studios promote their wares on the fa?ade of the city's grand hotels. It's still a little early and everything isn't quite up yet, but the Majestic hotel was entirely decked out in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire advertising and all of it was multilingual with pretty much every language covered. The first thing you'll see below is actually visible behind the photo of the Mockingjay statue above. Once you click play on the video it's rather clear what you're seeing as the title of the film rotates from one language to the next above the door and the Mockingjay remains on fire on both sides. I'll have more pictures from around Cannes tomorrow (I'm heading to bed it's 10 Pm here and I've been traveling/working for 33 straight hours) so be on the lookout. I'm not sure why Lionsgate would use their Instagram account to premiere the following new poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, considering it's a rather ugly little low-res version, but so be it. In addition to this poster, stay tuned as I have some photos for the Hunger Games fans out there that I just snapped here in Cannes... including a brief little video. But first, the poster... which, I don't know about you, but I'm getting something of a "Moses on the mountaintop" vibe from it. You?
