A lot of people know actress Q'Orianka Kilcher from her scene-stealing turn in director Terrence Malick's "The New World" (2005), but what a lot of people don't know is that the 22-year-old actress is Latina.

The Huffington Post caught up with the lovely actress this week to talk about her new role as a Latina juvenile delinquent in the movie "Firelight" (which premiered last night on ABC), her Latin roots, and why she's learning Español.

We know your part-Latina. What are your Latin roots?

My father’s Peruvian! I actually have a lot of family in Cusco. I’m also Swiss, Alaskan, French, Spanish and Italian. I was in Peru last year and hopefully I’m going to get to go again soon!

Do you speak Spanish?

I’m re-learning it, actually. When I was little, I used to speak it all of the time--It was my first language. But I ended up forgetting it, »

Jackie K. Cooper: Firelight Is Another Inspiring Movie

20 April 2012 8:04 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Each time the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presents a new movie I marvel at their choices. For each time they select a story that is uplifting to the audience and wonderfully entertaining as well. Their latest presentation is Firelight and it is another solid and uplifting movie. It is time for America to tune in to these shows, as more indifference on its part might cause us to lose this sacred venue.

Firelight is based on the life of Dwayne Johnson, known as DJ in the film. DJ (Cuba Gooding, Jr) is a youth counselor in a detention center for girls. He really cares about those whose path he crosses. In the movie it is all about his relationship with two of the young women, Terry (DeWanda Wise) and Caroline (Q'orianka Kilcher).

The film shows how Terry meets Caroline on her first day at the facility and immediately begins to help her adjust. »

The New World: a gap-year fantasy that doesn't trip up on talking raccoons

Terrence Malick's take on the Pocahontas tale is un-Disneyfied in every way

Director: Terrence Malick

Entertainment grade: B

History grade: B+

In 1607, 104 Englishmen and boys established Jamestown. It would become the first permanent English settlement in the territory that is now the United States.

Colonialism

Grudgingly, Captain Newport (Christopher Plummer) frees John Smith (Colin Farrell) on his arrival in Virginia. Smith was condemned to death during the voyage for being annoying. Oh, all right: formally, for concealing a mutiny. He's still annoying. Soon he's wandering moodily around the forests and fields, shirt open to show off his pecs, wearing feathers and beads like he's on some kind of gap year, and banging on about what noble savages the local Powhatan people are. "They are gentle, loving, faithful; lacking in all guile and trickery," he burbles. "They have no jealousy; no sense of possession." Fortunately, director Terrence Malick clearly realises this is patronising tosh. »
