Jewel’s First Mother’s Day Was ‘Magical’

17 May 2012 3:00 PM, PDT | People - CelebrityBabies | See recent People - CelebrityBabies news »

Forget the fancy brunch and the elaborate gifts. For Jewel, it was all about bare feet and playing in the grass when the singer celebrated her first Mother’s Day.

“It was magical,” she tells People of the day, which she spent at home with son Kase Townes, 10 months and her husband, professional bull rider Ty Murray at their 2,200-acre ranch in Texas. “I spent the day relaxing with my two favorite men, Ty and Kase. We hung out at the ranch and enjoyed being outside with our animals and nature.”

Allison Anders Directing Lifetime's 'The June Carter Story' Starring Jewel

4 May 2012 6:43 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

If you saw Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar-winning performance in “Walk The Line,” and thought her story needed a dose of muddy visuals and histrionic melodrama, Lifetime has fixed your needs completely with their new original movie.

In a move thankfully more fitting than Lindsay Lohan as Liz Taylor in their upcoming biopic, “Liz & Dick,” Lifetime has cast the singer Jewel in “The June Carter Story,” playing the titular country icon in a film about her life. Previously only seen in bit parts in Ang Lee’s “Ride With The Devil” and “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" (which, ironically, poked fun at projects resembling, oh, this one),” Jewel will take center stage as the film chronicles June’s rise to fame alongside her husband Johnny Cash, before breaking out on her own for a solo career. Of course, June was a major force in saving Cash’s life during his well-chronicled substance abuse, »

Bite-sized pieces of TV news, including items on "Hell's Kitchen," "Conan" and more:

- Ever wonder what a hybrid of "The Bachelor" and "The Voice" would look like? Well, this summer, Fox has the answer. "The Choice," hosted by Cat Deeley, features four celebrity bachelors in spinning chairs with their backs to their eligible bachelorettes. During round one, the men can only use the suitors' voices -- as they share information about themselves -- to make "The Choice." When a bachelor likes what he hears, he pulls his "love handle," bringing him face-to-face with his potential mate. It premieres June 7. [Fox]

- Fox has also tweaked its summer schedule a little. "Hell's Kitchen" will now kick off Season 10 at 8 p.m. Et Monday, June 4, followed by "MasterChef" at 9 p.m. Both shows will air twice a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays. [Fox]

'The Voice': Jesse Campbell voted best of Top 16 by Digital Spy users

17 April 2012 4:59 PM, PDT | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Jesse Campbell has been voted the best act of The Voice's Top 16 so far. The 42-year-old performed a moving rendition of Beyoncé's 'Halo' during Monday night's first live quarter final show, pulling in 33.6%. However, his popularity did not hold with his coach Christina Aguilera, who sent him home during the broadcast's instant elimination. In second place was Lindsey Pavao, whose unique take on Katy Perry's 'Part of Me' earned her 15.8% of reader votes. Slightly less impressive were Jermaine Paul, who got 13% for his cover of Phil Collins's 'Against All Odds', and Ashley de la Rosa, whose version of Jewel's 'Foolish Games' brought in 11.3%. ‘The Voice’ Season 2 Episode 14 Review: Quarter-finals Begin!

17 April 2012 12:03 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

The quarter-finals on The Voice Season two began this week, with a big twist in tow! Team Blake and Team Christina went head to head, leaving Shelton and Aguilera with the tough decision to immediately eliminate the weakest player after the performances. This show sure knows how to continue to reel us in. Giving us a twist within an eliminations really keeps everyone on their toes and as it gets closer to the finale, that’s exactly what needs to happen. Nobody is safe and everyone needs to be reminded of those high stakes and fight for it. The coach decisions and audience participation has shifted and hopefully this twist is here to stay because it is a good one!

The Voice Recap: A Song of Nice and Dire

17 April 2012 6:38 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Week 1 of The Voice‘s Season 2 Quarterfinals closely paralleled a pivotal scene in Game of Thrones‘ inaugural season: What appeared to be a character central to the action had his head unceremoniously detached and placed on a spike as the crowd — or at least the three people in my living room — roared approval. The only thing missing was Christina Aguilera emerging naked from the funeral pyre of her Bionic album, its jewel case having hatched into a tiny, fire-breathing dragon.

Of course, there were a few moments where the episode began to resemble the kind of deranged hootenanny described during »

"The Voice" Live Round: Is Adam Levine the Weakest Link?

17 April 2012 5:40 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

There's only one thing more unsettling than watching two out of eight competitors on last night's The Voice receive surprise eliminations at episode's end: watching Adam Levine mumble and stutter for approximately 30 hours before giving simple criticisms. Bad news, everyone: Adam is suddenly the worst! His nervous preambles are so damn time-consuming! Last week I realized that Christina Aguilera often shares valuable insight with the contestants (even if she can't remember their names, as was the case with the wrongfully dismissed Tony Vincent), and now I'm realizing a far scarier fact -- that Adam Levine is worried about not seeming nice. What could be a more disgusting fear? He should focus his phobia on Xtina's stagewear, which -- during her performance of "Stronger" on The Voice stage -- resembled Paula Abdul's freakish, bedazzled ensemble from her performance of "Vibeology" at the '91 Video Music Awards.

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen the April 16 episode of "The Voice."

Well, that was rough. We thought this was just a performance night, but Team Christina and Team Blake each lost another member on "The Voice" (Mondays at 8 p.m. Et and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Et on NBC) tonight in a very unexpected instant elimination.

The show kicked off with Carson revealing that both Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton will have to say goodbye to one team member at the end of the two-hour episode. Christina is "really upset right now" and Blake says, "If I knew who to kick for this, I would kick 'em."

Though his team is not in the hot seat this week, Cee Lo Green seems to have had no idea about the instant boot twist until the cameras starting rolling. Adam Levine, however, likes that the coadges have the control. »

Melissa Gilbert’s Dancing With The Stars Injury Brings Out The Hero In Gavin DeGraw

Man, as beneficial as a good run on Dancing With the Stars can be for celebrities looking for a comeback the show is also quite hazardous to their health. Last night, Melissa Gilbert was rushed to the hospital after her performance and later tweeted that she was treated for “mild concussion and whiplash.” Amazingly, her paso doble with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, which earned a 22. That’s what separates stars from normal people, isn’t it? We would have been lying down and crying, like, right away.

And speaking of people not acting like normal people, Gavin DeGraw was a total hero last night. He carried Melissa down the stairs like a knight in shining armor. “I think anybody would have done it,” he told People. “She wasn’t feeling good. I think she hit her head, so I asked her if she wanted to lay down or something. So we »

Are 'The Voice' ratings cracking? 'Idol' back on top

4 April 2012 10:03 AM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

After weeks of victory-lap headlines, NBC’s The Voice is starting to falter somewhat in the ratings — with Fox’s American Idol retaking the lead.

NBC’s music competition continues to rule most nights it airs, just like Tuesday evening when the first Voice results show of the season dominated a somewhat modestly rated field of contenders. The Voice delivered 8.4 million viewers and a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating. With ABC’s Dancing With the Stars results show (15.4 million, 2.7) down 13 percent and Fox’s tent-pole comedy New Girl (4.6 million, 2.3) down 12 percent, how can you bag on The Voice, right?

‘The Voice’ Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Battle Round Comes to a Close

27 March 2012 2:30 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

The battle round concluded this week on The Voice with a mixture of both outstanding and lackluster performances. The funny thing is, the artists who did not necessarily stand out during the blind auditions made a mark this week while the artists more favored let their nerves get the best of them. The coaches had to make some very tough and more often than not, shocking decisions as a handful of artists you may have been rooting for did not step up to the plate. The last of the battle round artists all have potential but taking account only their performance in the ring and what that can bring to the live shows… well, the eliminations were rough! But was the pain worth it? So far, yes. Together, the coaches have put together the most diverse teams we have yet to see on the series. It looks like the live »

Jaimie Etkin: 'The Voice' Recap: Cee Lo Sheds Tears (Twice)

It's the last installment of the battle rounds on "The Voice" (finally!) and you know what that means ... You never have to look at the bedazzled discus Christina calls a hat ever again.

And in honor of the special occasion, our mom has joined us to mock Cee Lo's silk pajamas, Carson's struggle for relevancy and everything in between this week.

So without further ado, find out the final six contestants who will be making to the live shows below!

Battle: James Massone vs. Wade

Team: Cee Lo

Song: "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper

Coadge Cee Lo paired these two baby faces (not a reference to mentor Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, but rather to the fact that they both have prepubescent faces) together for "True Colors," because he's Cee Lo and he'll do whatever it takes to ensure that his battles are weird. 'The Voice' battle: The LiNE and Moses Stone take on 'Satisfaction'

27 March 2012 12:00 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

On Monday's episode of "The Voice," Christina Aguilera turned country duo The LiNE against M.C. Moses Stone with the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." It seems an odd choice of song -- and pairing -- given that it's way out of both their comfort zones, but the artists persevere.

Moses decides to actually sing, which seems out of place given that he's a rapper. Lionel Richie tells him he's got "the voice," though, so he may be in better standing than we thought. Jewel mentors The LiNE, and tells them to be less wedding band like and to focus on their breakup to add some angst to their performance.

Ultimately, the performance is incredibly mismatched and uneven. The arrangement of the song lends itself to Moses far more, particularly given that he has the opportunity to do a little rapping. Cee-Lo says he has "charisma and swagger, »
