Dishoom poster faces trouble from an Ngo

4 August 2016 6:58 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

While the action comedy Dishoom that released last week is enjoying its success streak, a poster of the film is facing trouble owing to the portrayal of smoking in it. An Ngo that works towards anti-smoking has raised objection over the same and has asked the makers to take down those posters of the film. Shekhar Salkar, the general secretary of the Ngo, claimed that the poster which has John smoking a cigarette promotes smoking which is against the law and should be withdrawn immediately. Ever since the trailer hit the tube, it was a well-known fact that John plays the role of a cop named Kabir who is a chain smoker. Considering that the actor himself is against smoking in real life, he even decided to go on a detox after playing the role. The makers of Dishoom are yet to react to this opposition raised by the Ngo. »

1 August 2016 4:19 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

While several Pakistani actors are gaining recognition in Bollywood, Indian films have often faced several setbacks and hindrances during release in Pakistan. Yet another film that has met with a similar fate is Dishoom. The film has apparently been banned in Pakistan and one of the leading men from the action comedy, Varun Dhawan took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the same. Varun Dhawan tweeted, "Really upset that #Dishoom is banned in pakistan. I don't think the film eventually shows any country in a bad light. It's a wrong decision." The film talks about the kidnapping of the best Indian cricketer and two cops who are assigned the task of finding him in 36 hours as a crucial match between India and Pakistan is at stake. Besides Varun, John Abraham plays the role of the senior cop along with Jacqueline Fernandez playing the role of their helper. Dishoom also starring Akshaye Khanna, »

“Dhishoom Dhishoom, Puff Pufff Pant Pant” – Subhash K Jha reviews Dishoom

31 July 2016 3:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Starring: John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna, Virat Kohli (just kidding) and a dog named Bradman (not kidding)

Directed by Rohit Dhawan

Rating: *** ½

Everybody in Dishoom is shown to be in  a tearing hurry. Some, like the flighty Miss Fernandez seem to be running to nowhere quite furiously. But everyone is determined to get some place.

Dishoom  is one of the most fast-paced Bollywood bromances in recent times. Bromance, it sure is. And a pretty cool one at that. With John Abraham (excellent as the strong silent sturdy he-man type) and Varun Dhawan (endearingly vulnerable clumsy but finally dependable) helming the hyperventilating hi-jinks, director Rohit Dhawan can’t go wrong.

He doesn’t.

Plus there is cricket which as we all know is religion in India. So what happens when Virat, fictionally altered to Viraj, is kidnapped by a mean money machine named Wagah (probably because »

‘Dishoom’ Review: Sometimes, a Bollywood Movie Is Just Another Weak Blockbuster

30 July 2016 7:55 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The only thing that makes much sense about Rohit Dhawan’s “Dishoom” is its title: the classic Bollywood onomatopoeia employed as the sound effect when an actor throws a punch, or a term used colloquially (“dishoom-dishoom”) to describe an action movie. But the use of this word to encapsulate the film is a questionable decision — sure, blows are delivered, cars get chased by helicopters, and boats explode, but “Dishoom” sputters soon after it starts by way of a promising plot that veers maddeningly off-course.

See More‘Sultan’ Review: Salman Khan Is the Biggest Movie Star In Bollywood. And He’s Unstoppable.

The premise is slightly improbable, but not without a fair share of intrigue. On the eve of a major cricket match with Pakistan in the UAE, India’s star batsman Viraj Sharma (Saqib Saleem) is kidnapped. Brought in to spearhead the search, the no-nonsense Indian Special Task officer Kabir (John Abraham, »

Dishoom Movie Review

29 July 2016 7:00 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

I don’t know about you, but I for one have been eagerly waiting for buddy-cop films to come back into the limelight. Having grown up on the likes of Sholay, Main Anari Tu Khiladi and Munna Bhai, I could not have been more psyched to hear that the promising director who delivered a very hilarious Desi Boyz in 2011 is all set to regenerate this genre. Rohit Dhawan’s latest outing, Dishoom, claimed to be riding high on the 90s buddy-cop film nostalgia and promised to be an action-comedy entertainer that is not to be missed. But does it really end up doing all these things?

Yes and no. For starters he delivered the action he promised. In fact it seems at one point that the older Dhawan brother had set out to give another fellow Rohit a run for his money as the movie delivered one interesting car chase after another. »

25 July 2016 8:24 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Every filmmaker is trying to tackle the piracy menace and after multiple film leaks in the past fe weeks. Now the makers of Dishoom want to ensure that their forthcoming film doesn't become yet another victim of online leak. Hence, we hear that this film has now become the first one to be submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification in an encrypted format. The past few incidents of film piracy which included the leak of Udta Punjab and Great Grand Masti were said to be copies that were submitted to the Cbfc for certification. While filmmakers are striving hard to take precautions and prevent any such incidents further, the board has decided to certify films only if they are submitted in the Dcp-kdm format. John Abraham and Varun Dhawan’s ‘Dishoom’ to add on to ‘clean entertainer’ successes in 2016

22 July 2016 12:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Sultan, The Jungle Book, Airlift, Housefull 3, Baaghi, Neerja and Kapoor & Sons – one look at the list of films that have turned out to be successful in 2016 and it is crystal clear that the ones which went on to win support from audiences were those that were clean entertainers. Other than the fact that none of these films has been an ‘A’ certificate affair, there is also nothing in there which is cringe-worthy.

Now that Dishoom is set for release, the sentiment across the industry is unanimous that yet again, it is clean entertainment, courtesy producers Sajid Nadiadwala and Sunil Lulla, along with director Rohit Dhawan’s family audience appeal, which would make Dishoom a good choice for the cine-goers.

“Whether it is universal successes like Sultan, The Jungle Book, Housefull 3 and Baaghi or niche biggies like Airlift, Neerja and Kapoor & Sons, what ties them all is the fact »
