In Conversation with cinematographer and director Santosh Sivan

When talking about the great cinematographers of India, one name that has to be at the top is Santosh Sivan. He has won over 13 National Awards, was recently honored with a Padma Shri and also is the first Indian cinematographer to be inducted into the American Society of Cinematographers. Not only does he focus the lens and set the frame in both Indian and English films, he also has sat in the director’s chair to create his own magic. His credits include Dil Se, Asoka, The Terrorist, Before the Rains, Thalapathi, Raavan, Iruvar, Roja, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, and more.

As part of the London Indian Film Festival on July 11th, Mr. Sivan will be giving a special master class. I was lucky enough to chat with Mr. Sivan about his career, and it was a fascinating conversation covering many different and interesting topics. Enjoy!

Court exonerates Gaurang Doshi of financial obligations towards former wife Madhuri

In a court order on Wednesday, producer Gaurang Doshi has been released of all financial obligation post-divorce towards his former wife Madhuri. Shah Rukh Khan wishes Ajay Devgn all the best

Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn have always had a troubled friendship; but it was during the release of the late Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar that matters came to a flash point with both films slated for release on the same day. However, now that seems to be a story from the past with Srk's latest tweet wishing Devgn all the luck for his forthcoming release Singham Returns.

Posting on twitter Srk said, "Want to wish Rohit Shetty & Ajay Devgun & their whole team of Singham2 the best of luck. May u entertain us as u have been doing for yrs".

Interestingly, this will be Rohit Shetty's first release after his success last year with Chennai Express that featured Srk top- lining the cast.

Happy New Years teaser promo out on August 15

Bringing back the association of Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan after Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om is Happy New Year. The movie will be hitting the silver screen in October and now, we hear that the makers have decided to strengthen the buzz around the film by releasing the teaser promo on August 15.

Prior to this, we got a glimpse of the film with the release of its poster and later on, Shah Rukh Khan too tweeted a few pictures revealing the look of all the actors in the film. Incidentally, the release of the teaser promo coincides with the release of Ajay Devgn-Kareena Kapoor starrer Singham Returns.

Saahil Prem criticizes the ‘fakeness’ in Bollywood

Saahil Prem- best known for playing the role of Satya opposite Sunny Leone in Ragini MMS2 has called out the Bollywood industry saying it is fake and typecasts actors for doing certain kinds of films.

“What I do not like is the fakeness. I do not like that at all. I also do not like some norms that you have to follow. Like if you do certain films, you will be typecast … it’s very cruel like that,” said Saahil.

In his opinion, Bollywood is about going to parties and as much as he likes partying with his friends, he cannot go to parties for networking. “So that’s how Bollywood is today and I am still not in it at all. I know I am a part of it but I do not have any friends as such here…” he said.

Srk to be honoured at Vijay Awards again

Looks like this month is turning out to be really lucky for Shah Rukh Khan with a lot of accolades coming his way! After being honoured by the French Government, now the actor will be the presented with the Entertainer Of Indian Cinema Award at the 8th Annual Vijaya Awards.

Though the awards are to acknowledge the work of Tamil artists, this is the second time that Shah Rukh has been bestowed with this honour. Previously, Shah Rukh was presented with the prestigious Chevalier Shivaji Ganeshan award at the same ceremony.

The award function which will be held at Chennai will be graced by popular South celebrities including Shruti Haasan, Hansika Motwani, Vaani Kapoor and Lakshmi Rai. »

Varun Dhawan turns rapper performs live on stage

Last week Varun Dhawan's promotional event with Alia Bhatt for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya in Chandigarh turned it to be an unexpected surprise for Varun's fan.

The young actor sang live on stage with the rapper Badshah.

Reliving the pleasurable experience Varun says, "Alia persuaded me to sing on stage. We started singing at promotional events in North India in Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Luckily for us the song 'Saturday Saturday' is already doing very well. For the first time in my life I performed a rap section with Badshah on stage in Chandigarh Sector 17 in front of 10,000 people. I can't put the experience in words. Happy New Year team returns to Dubai

A while back, we had reported that Farah Khan had shot extensive scenes of the lead cast of her film Happy New Year in Dubai. While the Dubai schedule was wrapped up months back, we hear that the team has once again landed in Dubai to shoot some shoot additional scenes for the film.

Confirming the film's shoot, the Dubai Film and TV Commission posted on their official facebook page, "We are excited to have the crew of the much anticipated #Bollywood movie #HappyNewYear back in #Dubai to film some additional scenes here. Which Dubai landmarks do you think will feature in the film?"

Srk to be conferred with Chevalier de la Legion dHonneur

Even though Shahrukh Khan may have sported a 'spectacled' look many a times on screen, the King Khan recently underwent a refractive eye surgery to correct his myopic vision (short sightedness). Reports have it that, post the surgery, he will have to rest his eyes for almost 10 days. Srk takes to the dance floor for Happy New Year

She made him jive bare-torsoed to the sound of 'Dard-e-Disco' in Om Shanti Om. Shah Rukh will dance like never before for and in Farah Khan's Happy New Year. And not just him, the entire cast will be dancing for a major part of the film.

According to a source close to the project, as per the script the cast has to dance for a stage show while pulling off a daring heist.

"So it's basically a dance and action script where all the protagonists have to look convincing as professional dancers on stage. Shah Rukh has never danced so much before," says the source.

Apparently, the dance competition that forms the narrative's grand finale stretches into a good 20 minutes.

Ever wondered what it would be like to hear Bollywood music with a Motown twist? Now you can thanks to the British home grown band Botown.

Botown are a uniquely formed Bollywood/Soul Motown band. The founder/frontman of Botown, Ajay Srivastav, is a full fledged musician and has worked with artists like Jamirooquai and Shah Rukh Khan in the past. The name Botown has been inspired by the music genres of Bo(llywood) and (Mo)Town. Botown formed in 2009, even though auditions for the band began in 2008.

Botown has taken inspiration from the 1960′s band The Bluesbreakers who constantly changed their line up in order to promote new talent. Way back in 2007, we saw Shah Rukh Khan taking his shirt off for the song 'Dard -E-Disco' in the Farah Khan film Om Shanti Om. He not only took his shirt off, but also showed the much talked about 'six-pack abs', thus starting a trend of sorts. It seems that history is going to repeat itself, this time again, for a Farah Khan's film Happy New Year. Buzz is that Srk will go topless and flaunt his abs yet again.
