Vikas Bahl’s extremely popular film Queen is riding high on its success. Ending the year on a high note, Queen now has three awards to its name at the prominent Stardust Awards 2014 on Sunday 14th December 2014. Shahrukh Khan to romance Pakistani actress Mahira in ‘Raees’

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani has confirmed that Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who impressed Indian audiences with her work in popular Pakistani TV show “Humsafar”, will be Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s leading lady in “Raees”.

Sidhwani took to social networking site Twitter to share the news and wrote: “Our leading lady in #Raees @themahirakhan @iamsrk @rahuldholakia @FarOutAkhtar,” Sidhwani posted on Twitter Tuesday.

Earlier, it was being said that Sonam Kapoor would play the female protagonist. However, now all rumours have been put to rest.

To be directed by Rahul Dholakia and co-produced by Farhan Akhtar, “Raees” will see Mahira as Shah Rukh’s wife.

The 1st frame cume is now $122.2M with 3D results accounting for 71% of the box office total. Increases in key overseas markets have been updated below. Expanded Hobbit holiday cheer will flow next weekend in North America, Italy, Spain and Korea. On the flipside, Exodus: Gods And Kings came in slightly lower in its cume, which is $18.2M versus an estimated $18.8M on Sunday. Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol came together yesterday at Yrf Studios to celebrate the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema – Yash Raj Films’ iconic Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge directed by Aditya Chopra.

“It’s been 20 years for this film and I feel honoured that I was part of this film. It’s been 100 years of Indian cinema and I would say one-fifth of it belongs to Ddlj,” Shah Rukh Khan said and no one could have said it any better!

Nagesh Kukunoor’s next Dhanak, selected for the 65th Berlin International Film Festival

Nagesh Kukunoor’s next Dhanak (Rainbow) has been selected for the 65th Berlin International Film Festival which starts on February 5. The film will compete in the Generation KPlus category, a segment judged by an 11-member jury of kids aged between 11 and 14 years.

The Filmmaker, who is known for his films like Iqbal, Dor and Hyderabad Blues, is ecstatic. When asked Nagesh Kukunoor, he says, “I had promised myself that I would never attend the Berlinale till one of my films make it to the festival. I cannot believe this has actually happened!” 

Like his National award winning film Iqbal, Dhanak also potrays a central character with a disability, but in a dramatically diverse setting. The film is about an eight-year-old blind boy whose 11-year-old sister promises him that he will get his vision back before he turns 10. The film follows the duo on a life-changing journey through the sand dunes of Rajasthan. »

Nagesh Kukunoor’s “Dhanak” selected for Berlin

Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dhanak is one among the thirteen titles that the Generation section of the Berlin International Film Festival announced on Friday.

The Marathi-language film is Kukunoor’s latest after Lakshmi on child trafficking. The film will receive its world premiere in Generation K Plus competition.

Synopsis – Pari has decided to help her little blind brother Chotu get his eyesight back. So she sets out with him on a magical journey through Rajasthan where they encounter all sorts of colourful characters. More than anything they want to meet Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who on a poster has promised his viewers “new eyes”.

In 2014, Avinash Arun’s Killa was selected for Generation K Plus section where it also won the Crystal Bear for Best Film.

Bhosle, El-Sherif to receive Diff awards

Egyptian actor Nour El-Sherif and Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle will both receive lifetime achievement awards at this year’s Dubai International Film Festival (Diff).

El-Sherif’s career of 47 years has seen him produce and star in notable Arabic-language films such as The Yacoubian Building, Atef E-Taieb’s Sawak al-Utubis (1982) and  Youssef Chahine’s An Egyptian Story (1982) and Destiny (1997).

He also produced the 1976 action thriller Circle Of Revenge and went on to produce Zaman Hatem Zahran in 1986.

Diff is also screening the world premiere of El-Sherif’s latest film, Amir RamsesCairo Time, which also stars Mervat Amin, Samir Sabri, Dorra and Ayten Amer.

Meanwhile, 81-year-old playback singer Asha Bhosle has recorded more than 12,000 songs for more than 850 films. She is known for her range and versatility across various style of music from folk songs and Indian classical music to pop songs, ghazals and bhajans.

Bhosle also has a listing in the Guinness Book of World Records »

Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle will receive Dubai International Film Festival (Diff) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

Bhosle has recorded more than 12,000 songs for more than 850 films in 81 years. Known for her versatility, she has been conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan from the Indian government in 2008.

Diff Chairman Abdulhamid Juma said: “Asha Bhosle is a stalwart of the Indian music scene, and we are proud to be honouring her with this Diff Lifetime Achievement Award. Her work has touched almost every corner of the world: we look forward to welcoming such a legend to Dubai and Diff.”
