Review: Happy New Year, Quick-Witted Candyfloss For The Spectacle Inclined

5 hours ago | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Say what you want about Farah Khan, the woman knows what it takes to make a good looking movie. The director of Happy New Year appears to have gotten her groove back after the disastrous multi-million dollar escapade that was Tees Maar Khan. That film, her last directorial effort back in 2010, was her only film without her lucky charm, Shahrukh Khan, in the lead and did little more than introduce one very popular song to endless play at sangeets and birthday parties anywhere non-resident Indians can be found. With Happy New Year, Bollywood's most potent director-star combo is back on their A-game. However, the game has changed a bit since 2007 when Om Shanti Om took the world by storm, and there are problematic bits throughout...

Boman Irani to play a media tycoon in Pk

22 October 2014 8:51 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Though the extensive promotions of Aamir Khan's film Pk have already started in full swing, the characters of the film still remain a mystery. From Aamir Khan's almost nude stint to Anushka Sharma's short hair to Sanjay Dutt's Rajasthani pagadi, everything adds to the curiosity.

Recently, however, Boman Irani seems to have gone public about his character in the film. While last time, Boman gained fame with the Rajkumar Hirani directorial 3 Idiots as Viru Sahastrabudhhe, this time around, he will be seen playing the role of a media person in Pk where he will be the owner of a TV channel. However, in order to maintain secrecy of the plot, Boman Irani refused to divulge any more details about his character in the film.

Currently, the veteran actor is busy with the promotions of his upcoming film Happy New Year which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan along with Sonu Sood, »

Akshay Kumars Jaanwar to release opposite Shah Rukh Khans Happy New Year

22 October 2014 3:38 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

What Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck couldn't do, Akshay Kumar has dared to attempt. Take on Shah Rukh Khan in his Diwali domain.

While the Brad and Ben starrers Fury and Gone Girl were pushed ahead so as to not clash with Shah Rukh's Happy New Year, Akshay Kumar's Jaanwar creeps stealthily into the theatres alongside the Srk monster-release.

Suddenly out of the blue Shah Rukh Khan has competition. If we can call it that. Shah Rukh's eagerly awaited Happy New Year which no other film dared to take on, has now an Akshay Kumar starrer to reckon with.

The film is Suneel Darshan's 1999 hit Jaanwar which is being flash-released this Diwali in a new digitally enhanced avatar.

Explaining his decision to suddenly release the film on the same day as Happy New Year producer-director Suneel Darshan says, "The re-release was over-due. And what better time than Diwali? »

Farah Khan writes lyrics for a song in Happy New Year

21 October 2014 5:12 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Choreographer turned filmmaker Farah Khan has now dipped her hands into penning down lyrics. While it's her cousin Farhan Akhtar and her uncle Javed Akhtar who mastered it, Farah too seems to be giving it a shot. Going a step further for her dream project Happy New Year, Farah Khan wrote the lyrics of the song 'Nonsense Ki Night'. During the making of the song, it seems that lyricist Irshad Kamil was out of town and the lyrics that Vishal-Shekhar and Farah Khan had in hand weren't in sync with the film's scenario. Moreover, they were falling short of time since they had to complete the song in a day. Hence, they decided to pen down the lyrics all by themselves. Farah, being the director of the film, wanted a catchy song with humour and hence decided to translate popular Hindi idioms in English. While she put her assistant director »

Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Bang Bang’ Sets Box Office Record

19 October 2014 10:08 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Hrithik Roshan starrer “Bang Bang,” a Fox Star remake of Tom Cruise-toplined “Knight and Day,” has set a box office record for Bollywood films in North America by reaching a total gross of $2.56 million making it the top Hindi movie of the year in the continent.

Co-starring Katrina Kaif, the film in its third week at the box office passed earlier Bollywood hit “Kick,” which stars Salman Khan and reached $2.47 million in North America where it’s playing in 100 screens.

However, worldwide gross puts “Bang Bang” at $52 million and that makes it No. 2 to “Kick’s” $61 million.

But Fox Star Studios chief Vijay Singh told the Financial Express, “There is no other release till ‘Happy New Year’ and so the winning streak should continue. The film has got a great scale to it and outstanding action. We released it outside of India in over 850 theaters, which is the biggest release for any Bollywood film. »

‘Bang Bang’ Shoots To Top Of 2014 Chart As #1 Bollywood Film In North America: Box Office

19 October 2014 9:30 AM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Hrithik Roshan-starrer Bang Bang has advanced to the top spot among Bollywood films in North America for the year. With a gross now of $2.56M, it bested the previous 2014 record holder, Salman Khan’s Kick, which earned $2.47M during its summer run. The Knight And Day remake that co-stars Katrina Kaif went out day-and-date on October 2, scoring the biggest opening weekend of the year for a Bollywood title. From Fox International Productions and Fox Star Studios, Bang Bang is still playing at over 100 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. It would have to go a fair way to beat last year’s Dhoom 3, which topped out at around $8M. However, it will have a clear path to add coin for another week in North America before Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year bows. It also has beaten Roshan’s own 2013 actioner, Krrish 3, which grossed about $2.2M. »

In Celebration of Shiamak in the Movies!

18 October 2014 10:55 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Shiamak is known as the Guru of Dance, and has choreographed some of the best dance pieces for stage and screen. To celebrate the choreographer’s birthday, we thought we would shine the light on his work in films! He truly has an eye for creating incredible creativity with his choreography on screen and we know you will enjoy watching every one.

‘Dhoom Again’ – Dhoom 2

The huge success of Dhoom 2 helped to solidify Hrithik Roshan’s career and no doubt his remarkable dance performance in the opening song ‘Dhoom Again’ showed him at his finest. Shiamak was of course responsible for the jaw-dropping choreography that can be seen throughout the song. It’s bold, edgy and something which we have never really seen in Bollywood before. Kudos to Shiamak on giving the song a big ‘dhoom!’

Did Cbfc members flout rules during the censor screening of Happy New Year

17 October 2014 8:21 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Everyone knows that no film in Bollywood can be released without the Censor Board's approval and stamp. What many do not know is "The principles for guidance in certifying films" which lays down many dos and don'ts for any film's certification. One such 'don't' in this section happens to be that 'no one except the members are allowed at the censor screening'. Well, if the news reports are to be believed, then, Raju Vaidya, the Censor Board's newly appointed Regional Manager and a handful of other members from the Board had allegedly called in their respective families in order to be photographed with Shah Rukh Khan, at a theatre in the western side of Mumbai, during the censor screening of Happy New Year. While Nandini Sardesai (a Board member) said that the respective families met Shah Rukh Khan only post the film's screening and that no one entered the theatre »
