Novel: "The Dharma Bums," 1956.

Recorded a series of albums reading his own works; one with musician and TV host Steve Allen, another with jazz greats Al Cohn and Zoot Simms, and another on his own. Not selling well at first, the albums became sought-after collectibles later, with even bootleg copies fetching over $100, until they were reissued (with full remastering, liner notes, and bonus tracks) by Rhino Records in the 1990s.
