Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League’ Review

10 May 2015 5:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Diedrich Bader, Troy Baker, John Dimaggio, Tom Kenny, Phil Morris, Nolan North, Khary Payton, Kevin Michael Richardson, James Arnold Taylor, Tony Todd, Kari Wahlgren, April Winchell | Directed by Brandon Vietti

Batman has joined the just formed Justice League in order to keep tabs on Superman, a mistrust that is complicated by Superman’s bad (but well meaning) clone, Bizarro, and his creation of the Bizarro League. But, there is an even bigger threat that forces the two Leagues to join forces. Yes, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Cyborg; and their bizarro-universe clones, Batzarro, Bizarra, Greenzarro and Cyzarro, must team-up to stop Darkseid and save the galaxy!

Wherever there is chaos and destruction, Superman’s mixed-up clone, Bizarro, is not far way. He hears the opposite of what is said, says the opposite of what he means and does the opposite of what is right. The Man of Steel »

Film Review: 'The SpongeBob Movie'

27 March 2015 1:29 AM, PDT | CineVue | See recent CineVue news »

★★★☆☆ Over a decade on from its first big screen outing, enduringly popular cartoon character Spongebob SquarePants returns to cinemas. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015) is a prequel to the previous film and sees SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and his friends on the trail of the person behind the theft of their Krabby Patty secret formula, somehow connected to the film's narrator, Burger Beard The Pirate (Antonio Banderas). In an era saturated by computer animation, it is refreshing to see directors Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) and Paul Tibbitt (a writer for the original series) not only stick to hand drawn animation for the majority of the film, but also keep the anarchic feel of the TV show.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water review: Has a streak of madness

26 March 2015 2:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Director: Paul Tibbitt; Screenwriters: Glenn Berger, Jonathan Aibel; Starring: Antonio Banderas, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Mr Lawrence; Running time: 93 mins; Certificate: U

There's a streak of madness running through The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, elevating it above the usual run-of-the-mill animated fare into something that, at its best, is inspired lunacy. Here's an animation/live-action hybrid that features Antonio Banderas as a pirate-turned-food truck chef, civil war over a burger recipe, the apocalypse, and Matt Berry voicing an intergalactic space dolphin. Suffice to say, this is probably the maddest family film you'll see all year.

Primarily the star of short-form cartoons (episodes are either 11 or 22 minutes long) on Nickelodeon, SpongeBob took a stab at big screen stardom in 2004, but the resulting film didn't quite manage to power the character on to bigger things (despite a starry cast featuring Scarlett Johansson, Alec Baldwin and, er, David Hasselhoff »

Movie Review – The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015)

25 March 2015 4:51 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, 2015.

Directed by Paul Tibbitt.

Starring Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Mr. Lawrence, Jill Talley, Dee Bradley Baker, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence, Mary Jo Catlett and Antonio Banderas.

Synopsis:

When a diabolical pirate above the sea steals the secret Krabby Patty formula, SpongeBob and his nemesis Plankton must team up in order to get it back.

“Sponge Out of Water”: a suitably teasing sub-titled for the second (and hugely overdue) sequel to 2004’s SpongeBob Squarepants Movie, which promises more nautical shenanigans in and around Bikini Bottom with the titular sponge and his marine friends. Why it took so long for a sequel to appear in the first place despite its $140 million worldwide gross is a mystery the size of SpongeBob’s crabby-patty recipe, but back into the ocean we go, though be sure to take some ibuprofen with you, as Sponge Out »

The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water Review

Director: Paul Tibbitt.

Cast: Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Mr. Lawrence, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence.

Certificate: U

Running Time: 92 minutes

Synopsis: Spongebob (Kenny) must work along side his enemy, Plankyon (Mr. Lawrence), to discover the whereabouts of the missing formula for Krabby Patties.

I’ve never liked Spongebob Squarepants. I’ve only ever found it irritating, with the surreal humour paling in comparison to other such bizarre shows. It almost seems as though it’s trying too hard. That being said, I laughed quite a lot at the trailer for The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water, so I went in fully expecting to enjoy the film. I certainly did enjoy it, but the trailer gave us all the best bits.

Taking the trailer and title into consideration, the film is somewhat deceptive. The out of water segments make up around 10 minutes of the actual film, and it just the climax to the story. »

'The Lazarus Effect' box office: Olivia Wilde and Mark Duplass horror movie arrives comatose (photo: Olivia Wilde in 'The Lazarus Effect') (See previous post: "'Focus': Will Smith Has One of Worst Opening Weekends of His Career.") The SpongeBob Movie Is Absurd, Delightful Business as Usual

10 February 2015 9:00 PM, PST | Village Voice | See recent Village Voice news »

Animated adventure-comedy The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water's dedication to surreal, anti-formulaic humor makes the film a supremely confident extension of the title character's TV series. Sponge Out of Water playfully reinforces sitcom-style roles and conflicts through a delightfully absurd scenario that builds in its weirdness until climaxing with a talking space-dolphin/singing seagulls rap battle. So while TV SpongeBob's typical adventures don't involve photo-booth time-machines and Antonio Banderas in a pirate outfit, Sponge Out of Water is still business as usual for the irrepressibly cheerful, pineapple-dwelling sea-creature.

'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water' (2015) Movie Review

9 February 2015 12:58 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

There is a strong chance many of you out there will feel a bit old with what I am about to say. Back in 1999, I was six years old. The reason I bring this up is because the television program "SpongeBob SquarePants" started airing that year. As a kid who watched a ton of cartoons, "SpongeBob" was one of my favorites, and to this day, I can still go back and watch those first three or four seasons not only with nostalgia but legitimate enjoyment. The writing, animation, and vocal performances on that show are unique, vibrant, and, most importantly, really funny. The jokes drift from the silliest of silly to the driest of wit. Not a week goes by without me quoting it at least half a dozen times. Despite my love for those early years, the recent seasons, which I check up on now and again, have not been the greatest. »

Paramount’s “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” is dominating the U.S. box office, hitting $15.2 million Friday as it heads for an impressive $52 million opening weekend at 3,641 U.S. locations.
