Bearing a startling resemblance to fashion model Christie Brinkley, Katja Kean began making adult films in her native Denmark in 1997. Having worked in the hotel business for some time, she got bored and wanted to try something completely different, and decided that porn was it. She has made only a relative handful of features since her debut, but has still managed to be counted among the top draws in the adult-film industry.

When Dario Campeotto released his album "Love is in the Air" in 2001, she surprised everybody by singing a duet with him. The song "Save Your Love" revealed that she can actually sing. To prove that this was not some skilled producer's editing of her vocals, she did a live performance with Campeotto in Tivoli, the famous theme park in Copenhagen.

In 2002 she became the subject of a biography called "Katja KXXX - Stjerne I Syndens By" (written by Henrik List, based on interviews with her). The title, which was chosen by the book's publisher, has lead some people to believe that Katja Kean changed her last name to "KXXX", but that is a misunderstanding. The name she chose to replace "Katja Kean", when for legal reasons she was forced to change it, was "Katja K".
