True Blood: Monday (December 2) at 10pm on Fox

The penultimate season of True Blood wraps up with a finale that contains pretty much everything we love about the show - nudity, a load of violence and plenty of scenes that are a taaaad messed up.

But don't go thinking that 'Radioactive' is True Blood-by-numbers, oh no - there's added shock value in the apparent death of one of the show's lead characters, as Sookie (Anna Paquin) finds herself in danger after trying to talk Warlow (Rob Kazinsky) out of marriage and Bon Temps braces itself for a new crisis.

The Big Picture Movie Review 2

The Big Picture Movie Review 2
Title: The Big Picture Director: Eric Lartigau Starring: Romain Duris, Marina Fois, Catherine Deneuve, Neils Arestrup, Branka Katic, Eric Ruf A contemplative, puzzle-box anti-thriller of the sort that seemingly only the French now make (even though it’s adapted from an American novel by Douglas Kennedy), “The Big Picture” is an artful if overlong drama that connects chiefly as a compelling vehicle for star Romain Duris. To call it understated is its own special sort of understatement; this is a film-as-character-study, but also one that hovers drone-like over its subject rather than digging in for deep psychological insights. The story centers on a lawyer and family man, Paul Exben (Duris), who commutes from [ Read More ]

The Big Picture / L’homme qui voulait vivre sa vie

The Big Picture

(L’homme qui voulait vivre sa vie)

Direced by Eric Lartigau

At what point does a routine mid-life crisis turn into a full-scale Ripleyesque reinvention? Eric Lartigau’s The Big Picture explores the drastic measures taken by Parisian lawyer Paul Exben (Romain Duris), following his discovery of his wife’s infidelity. If, like me, you’re a fan of Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels, you’ll enjoy watching Duris take on another man’s identity, with the help of some additional facial hair and a seemingly endless supply of cash. But don’t go expecting action, suspense, or a regular supply of corpses: this is more of a character study than a thriller.

Novelists often treat film adaptations of their work with barely disguised contempt. But author Douglas Kennedy has been fulsome in his praise for this movie, which shifts the action of his 1997 novel from the USA to Europe.

Johnny Depp’s ‘Public Enemies’ Delivers Bona Fide Chicago Powerhouse

Chicago – Was John Dillinger an Adolf Hitler-level criminal mastermind or a modern-day Robin Hood superman? In the authentic reality portrayed by the god-like Johnny Depp in the Chicago-filmed “Public Enemies,” he’s a little bit of both for blockbuster filmmaker Michael Mann.

Unfortunately, Depp’s nemesis – special agent Melvin Purvis as played by “The Dark Knight” mainstay Christian Bale – falls flat. Bale rolls through the motions with a monotone and monotonous role that needed the tension of a World War conflict rather than a rubber band.

Rating: 4.0/5.0 The French actress Marion Cotillard, on the other hand, delivers yet another intoxicating performance as Billie Frechette this time in a supporting role. We’re reminded why she ever-so-definitely deserved her 2008 Oscar for so absolutely embodying Edith Piaf in 2007’s “La Vie en Rose”.

Leelee Sobieski is thrown in toward the end as the downplayed character Polly Hamilton in a relatively wasted and unnecessary cameo.

Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard looked glamorous at the Public Enemies premiere in London earlier today. Over the weekend he was turning heads in NYC but now he's back to promoting his new film. Johnny recently spoke about why the movie is relevant in our current economy and also discussed staying true to himself. Here's more: On his character robbing banks: "Back then the banks were the enemies. We're learning today that they've been the enemies yet again. So when it comes to Dillinger, isn't it somehow nice to see the underdog kind of take control, even if it was another time?" On what's important to him: "My kiddies are getting bigger. My daughter's 10 and my boy's 7. The greatest thing is just the sort of beauty of watching my kids grow up and become little adults." On his advice about growing up: "Remember that you make your own reality. You
