Chris Evans/Puncture Opens Modestly, Gerard Butler/Machine Gun Preacher Disappoints: Box Office

25 September 2011 11:27 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Chris Evans, Puncture Gay Love Story Weekend Tops North American Per-Theater Average: Box Office As listed on the (so far incomplete) Box Office Mojo chart, Weekend's closest competitor this weekend (Sept. 23-25) at the Us/Canada box office was Cameron Crowe's Pearl Jam Twenty, which is screening at seven locations. After blowing off some box-office steam when it opened last Tuesday, Crowe's documentary earned an estimated $89,500 this weekend, averaging $12,786 per location. Pearl Jam Twenty was followed by Marc Forster's Machine Gun Preacher, starring Gerard Butler and Michelle Monaghan. Released by Relativity, the $30m-budgeted actioner raked in a disappointing $44,000 at 4 sites, averaging $11,000 per site. Kathy Baker and Michael Shannon are others in the cast. Also worth noting, Chris Evans has gone from red-white-and-blue shining hero in Captain America: The First Avenger to red-white-and-blue lawyer/drug addict in Puncture. The result was $35,700 at 4 sites, and a modest per-theater average of »

Puncture Review

Puncture Review

With summer movies safely tucked away, it's the time of year where films set out to teach us something or touch our hearts on the way to next year's Oscars. No, I don't mean Creature, although there was touching in some parts of that movie. Instead, I'm talking about Puncture, where brothers and co-directors Mark and Adam Kassen introduce Chris Evans to a villain even scarier than the Red Skull....big pharma.

[Review] Puncture

23 September 2011 7:40 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

We hope that every film is created because a writer had a story that they felt compelled to tell the world, a director who felt obligated to share his vision, and actors who were so driven by the story and opportunity that they simply could not sleep at night if they didn’t participate. It is from this fire that something wonderful, organic, and important can jump off the screen and into our lives, leaving some sort of indelible mark on us as we shuffle out of the theater.

And then there are films like Puncture.

This contrived, convoluted mess is less a movie than an erector set of sentimental gimmicks meant to make us feel without ever giving us the impetus to actually do so. A nurse (blink-and-you’ll-miss-her Vinessa Shaw) accidentally contracts AIDS but lives just long enough for us to see her bond with her adorable young children. »

‘Puncture’ starring Chris Evans – trailer review

31 August 2011 6:00 AM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Puncture

Directed by: Adam Kassen, Mark Kassen

Starring: Chris Evans, Brett Cullen, Michael Biehn

Rating: R

Release Date: Tbd

Trailer Score: 4/10

Thoughts by Tsr: Not Your Normal Trailer. Er, yes it is. Pretty standard fare in the world of cinematic trailers. This trailer neither interested me, nor put me off. Total run-of-the-mill, right down Main Street.

I’ve always found Chris Evans to be hard to digest, I don’t understand his Tom Cruise-esque swagger. Tom Cruise’s swagger I get, but this cheap off-brand of Chris Evans, I do not. And he struck me here as even more off-putting than usual.

I found very little in this trailer to be excited about. The supporting cast looks weak as tin. I’ve always dug Michael Biehn (probably my first man-crush, thanks to Aliens and The Terminator), and his goatee looks killer, but that’s not going to be enough »

Does 'The Verdict' Meet 'Erin Brockovich' in New Legal Thriller 'Puncture' Starring Chris Evans?

29 August 2011 4:03 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

For a little over a month I've been receiving emails about a new film called Puncture, which stars Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger) as a young Houston lawyer and functioning drug addict and I hadn't added it to the database until a few minutes ago. The film is obviously buzzy considering it stars the man who is Captain America, but also because it will make its way to theaters later this month on September 23 and finally I have gotten around to adding the film to the database along with the poster, eight pictures, the trailer and a just released clip from the film featuring Evans and co-star Brett Cullen (Ghost Rider).

I didn't watch the trailer, but I did watch the clip and if I take the description and the clip into consideration I get something of a cross between The Verdict and Erin Brockovich vibe from what little I know. »

Six-packs And Syringes

27 August 2011 6:54 PM, PDT | Scott Feinberg | See recent Scott Feinberg news »

Lest you think that Chris Evans, the physical specimen at the center of this summer’s blockbuster hit “Captain America: The First Avenger” (Paramount, 7/22, PG-13, trailer), is all style and no substance, check out Adam Kassen and Mark Kassen’s “Puncture” (Millennium, 9/23, R, trailer), a low-budget indie that premiered at April’s Tribeca Film Festival, will be released in theaters next month, and offers fairly solid proof that Evans has some acting chops to go with that six-pack. (His character, a crusading lawyer-by-day/junkie-by-night, is based on a person who actually lived — what actor wouldn’t like to take a bite out of such a meaty part?!)

In the film, Evans portrays Mike Weiss, a personal injury lawyer who is more interested in women, partying, and drugs than the frivolous cases that tend to pass through the small firm that he shares with his partner (the aforementioned Mark Kassen). One day, »

Trailer: Chris Evans has a Puncture

18 August 2011 6:51 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

This must be a first, Chris Evans in a film which is not from a comic book or sci-fi action type film. His new project, Puncture, sees the actor take on an Erin Brockovich type role with added thriller moments.

Directed by Mark and Adam Kassen (Faking It Us), the film is a:

A David and Goliath law drama about a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons.

It would be good to see if Chris Evans can actually act rather than being charming, which he is very good at. So this might be one lawyer thriller flick to look out for.
