Santa Banta Pvt Ltd – Movie Review by Subhash K Jha

23 April 2016 8:00 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Starring Boman Irani, Vir Das, Neha Dhupia, Lisa Haydon, Sanjay Mishra, Vijay Raaz, Ram Kapoor

Directed by Akash Deep

When it comes to goofy bantering, the two guys Santa and Banta are the tops. A film on their enthusiastic asininity could be just the prescription for an evening of lighthearted entertainment, especially when two actors with impeccable comic timing are playing the lead.

The saddest sight in a comedy is watching two talented comic actors struggling with lines that seem to be written as an ongoing joke on how unfunny jokes can be.

Santa Banta Pvt Ltd takes the two beloved Sikh characters from a million and one SMS jokes in the past 15 years, and squeezes them into a satirical straightjacket so suffocating and turgid it reduces the two comic heroes to a shadow of a caricature.

Don’t get me wrong. This film boasts of a wealth of comic »

His lawyer B.A. Desai also showed the film's posters to the bench allegedly claiming indecency by the film's actors. He also urged the Censor Board to withdraw its certificate issued to the producers to screen the film. Besides stating that the film's dialogues went against the Constitution's spirit, he also added that the jokes on 'sardarji' were intended to defame them (the community). He also stated that the film's release would lead to public disorder and also could possibly also lead to a law and order situation. Reflections 2015: Bollywood Razzies of 2015

11 January 2016 3:01 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” goes the Xmas song, but it also applies to sorting through the dreck and crap that came out of Bollywood in 2015. I watched many of these duds so that you don’t have to, and trust me they’re not as hilarious as I’m going to make them, because for every great Jodi like Srk-Kajol in Dilwale there’s Sunny Leone being paired with Ram Kapoor. Yet there were some awful gems like Msg and its sequel that came out in the same year – take that annual Fast and Furious franchise! Herewith is the worst and secretly hilarious of the year.

Worst Actor – Emraan Hashmi for Hamari Adhuri Kahani/Mr X

After doing so well in Shanghai, and Ghanchakkar, Emraan decided to play it safe with his performances in Hamari Adhuri Kahani (paired opposite Vidya Balan) and the atrocious Mr X. »
