The untitled mini, now in development, will tell the tragic story of 14-year-old black teen Emmett Till, who was brutally murdered after allegedly flirting with a white woman in Mississippi in 1955, with his savage murder galvanizing the… »
First and foremost: Chesley Sullenberger did extraordinary work in landing Us Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River, and every single person involved in the rescue efforts that day deserves the highest possible praise for how they handled things. Every single passenger and crew member aboard survived, and that is to be celebrated, certainly. But as a film? I can imagine all of the good impulses that went into the decision to make Sully, but none of that matters when the film is as resolutely limp as this one. Clint Eastwood often works in a minor key, which is one of the things I like most about him as a filmmaker. He has always been interested in the understated, and Sully is certainly that. The danger is that you can be so understated that it becomes inert, and in the case of Sully, I don’t get the entire thing. I »

Freeform is hitting the gas on original series development, pacting with a slew of producers — from Selena Gomez to Will Packer to Mila Kunis to Andy Samberg to the “Gossip Girl” team of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage — as the Disney-owned cabler hunts for shows to reinforce its revamped brand image.

The channel has also sought to expand its digital horizons with original content and by making its TV shows more readily available on its authenticated streaming app.
Not surprisingly, the projects on Freeform’s slate feature multicultural families, fantasy vehicles and rags-to-riches aspirational tales. The slate includes the »
