Vsc snaps up 'First Round Down'

Video Service Corp has acquired all Us and Canadian rights to Brett and Jason Butler’s sophomore feature First Round Down and plan a mid-2016 release.

The Butler brothers’ Substance Production and Marina Cordoni produce with support from Telefilm and Canadian federal and provincial tax credits.

Dylan Bruce of Orphan Black plays Tim Tucker, a former ice junior hockey star who ties to move on from his criminal past.

The Canadian cast includes Rachel Wilson, John Kapelos, Kristian Bruun, Rob Ramsay, Peter MacNeill and Percy Hynes White.

Vsc founder Jonathan Gross brokered the deal with McE’s Marina Cordoni.

In other news, New Films International has set a day-and-date Us release for The Sound And The Fury while the Canadian Film Centre has begun the Toronto shoot on 22 Chaser.

The National Association Of Theater Owners issued new data on Monday that showed the average price of a theatre ticket in the third quarter climbed 2.1% on the comparable period in 2014 to reach $8.25.

Ticket prices on average in Q3 2014 were $8.08. The year-to-date average is $8.34m, with Q1 averaging $8.12 and Q2 $8.61.

New Films International (Nfi) has set an October 23 limited theatrical and VOD launch for James Franco starrer The Sound And The Fury.  Digital roll-out will follow on Franco’s William Faulkner adaptation that premiered in Venice 2014. Butler brothers prepare 'First Round Down'

Principal photography in Toronto and Hamilton is set to begin on October 20 on Brett and Jason Butler’s latest film.

First Round Down centres on Tim Tucker, a former junior hockey star turned hitman who returns home after a decade to take care of his brother and move on from his criminal past. 

Dylan Bruce from Orphan Black stars alongside Rachel Wilson, Rob Ramsay, John Kapelos, Peter MacNeill, Pedro Miguel Arce and father-son duo Joel Percy Hynes and Percy Hynes White.

The production will work alongside the Hamilton Steelhawks Hockey Club, who officially return to the ice after a 27-year absence.

Scenes for the film will be shot during the Steelhawks’ home opener game at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena in Hamilton on November 7.

'The Breakfast Club' to Get Restoration & SXSW Screening for 30th Anniversary

The 30th anniversary of the release of iconic '80s flick "The Breakfast Club" was last month, and to celebrate, the film is getting a facelift and a special screening.

SXSW announced that a restored version of the movie will debut at the film festival this month. A special "Breakfast Club" screening is set for March 16 in Austin, with the event preceded by a Q&A session with none other than the princess and the basket case themselves, a.k.a. cast members Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy.

According to Variety, "The Breakfast Club" will also get a limited theatrical re-release on March 26 and March 31, accompanied by a featurette with new interviews from cast members Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, and John Kapelos, with additional commentary from Diablo Cody, Amy Heckerling, and Michael Lehman. Restored ‘Breakfast Club’ Set for World Premiere at SXSW

South by Southwest will hold the world premiere of the newly remastered version of “The Breakfast Club” on March 16 at the  Paramount Theatre in Austin.

Cast members Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy will attend for a Q&A prior to the screening.

Universal announced last month that the restored version of the John Hughes comedy-drama will be shown in 430 U.S. theaters for two nights on March 26 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. local time. Those screenings will include a bonus featurette featuring interviews with cast members Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and John Kapelos as well as filmmakers Diablo Cody, Amy Heckerling and Michael Lehman. “Breakfast Club” director Hughes died in 2009.

The Breakfast Club 30th Anniversary Edition” will also be available on Blu-ray and DVD on March 10.

The Breakfast Club to return to cinemas for 30th anniversary in the Us

The Breakfast Club is to mark its 30th anniversary with a cinema re-release in the Us.

The classic 1985 John Hughes film will be shown in select theatres during a two-day run on March 26 and 31.

Over 430 cinemas will participate in the special event, which will show a newly-restored version of the comedy-drama.

The film will also be introduced by a bonus documentary about it, featuring cast members Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Anthony Michael Hall and John Kapelos.

"Both long-time fans and new audiences now have the chance to see this iconic film return to its original home of the big screen," said John Rubey, chief executive officer of Fathom Events.

"Viewers also have the exclusive opportunity to get the inside scoop straight from the film's well-known and cherished cast."

It has yet to be confirmed whether a similar event will be held in the UK.
