Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.20: "Father of the Bride"

31 May 2011 8:20 AM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

Nick (George Eads) and Ray (Laurence Fishburne) searching for a Cs at the beginning, was almost indicative of Ray's search for Haskell (Bill Irwin). Who else would leave DBs in his wake. Nick comments on there being lots of manure here and Ray can smell it, can't help wondering if that was a snide remark about the B.S churned out by Haskell in this episode. No one was really on the ball, I have to say as far as Haskell was concerned. Rray nearly drives into a, "holy cow" as Nick says. Hey Nick should know all about cows from the question Gil (William Petersen) asked him: "What do cows drink?" All those seasons ago. They comes across scattered Db parts in a barn. Ray was oblivious he was stepping in manure. Nick Ids the larvae, as is his new specialty now, so they were dead up to 96+ hours ago. »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.19: "Unleashed"

27 May 2011 12:38 PM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

A woman being chased by a lion in the woods is mauled. Ray (Laurence Fishburne) doesn't believe she was hiking and wonders how she got out there. The bite marks on her were made anti-mortum. Sara (Jorga Fox) finds a piece of a tooth. The lion wasn't the cause of all her injuries. Sara thinks she may have "escaped from one animal, only to fall prey to another." Which was exactly the case. Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) and Greg (Eric Szmanda) were absent this episode. Sara gets to work with Ray again. Nick (George Eads) had cheap steak and eggs fro breakfast, 3 courses and he "still ate for cheap." Whilst he's out with Doc Robbins (Robert David Hall) they're stopped by a man who tells them of a girl inside the house. She's Db in the closet, apparently she hung herself. Doc comments there's no pulse so it just happened and »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.16: "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Dead"

3 May 2011 9:24 AM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

Ray (Laurence Fishburne) still having to battle his demons with Haskell (Bill Irwin) being on the loose. News reports of Haskell's escape and Ray doesn't want Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) turning off the TV due to him. Brass can't report there have been any sightings of him. Ray explains Haskell isn't any ordinary criminal and so the search for him, that should be manhunt, should also be different. Ray: "Until he makes a mistake, we just satisfy ourselves picking up bodies." Well, like it or not, it's what they do; unfortunately. A man presumed a Db is picked up and brought to autopsy. Before David (David Berman) can cut him open, he gets up and walks out of the morgue. David faints. Lucky for the Db, David got a call otherwise he'd be cut open; but he turns out to be not so luck after all. CSI delving into zombies for the twenty-first century. »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.12: "A Kiss Before Frying"

5 April 2011 1:46 PM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

An opening teaser in black and white showing a woman being dragged away. The CSIs attend a Cs where a Db has been dumped in a ditch. No vehicles around and Greg (Eric Szmanda) asks the officer to tape off the Cs. David, (David Berman) at the prospect of having to go down to examine the Db, asks "Why can't people die closer to the road?" The Db is still smoking on the wet ground, covered with gravel. Hey Nick (George Eads) didn't arrive at the Cs with Ray (Laurence Fishburne) like he usually does. The Db is rolled over, revealing his burnt face. His teeth are clenched and his tongue is burnt and black. Greg notices the singeing on his collar. When David attempts to cut the Db to determine Tod, he wakes up. David: "Call me if his condition worsens;" has the last word before the opening credits this episode. »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.11: "Man Up"

5 April 2011 12:44 PM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

Greg (Eric Szmanda) along with Hodges (Wallace Langham) and Mandy (Sheeri Rappaport) look at a photo of a girl on the web whom Greg states is a Db. saying: "She is not merely dead, she is most sincerely dead." (from The Wizard of Oz..) Nick (George Eads) asks if they're having a slow night and disagrees with Greg telling him everything on the website isn't real. Hodges explains he was trying to tell the others that. Nick proceeds to examine the photo and remarks on her blood vessels in her arm being distended meaning she has high blood pressure. Greg thinks the blood pooled in dexterity and lividity, i.e that she's dead. Hodges comments it's hard to tell without a body. Nick believes it's a waste of time and so he and Greg bet each other $100 on whether she's alive or not; which Nick doesn't even think Greg has. »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.10: "418-427"

30 March 2011 12:06 PM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

A woman attempts to pay at the check out in the grocery store, hounded by a complaining customer behind her and very nervous when she looks at a gang outside in the car. Lots of potential suspects in the opening as to why she was so anxious. Shots are heard and the trolley cart boy and the same woman are shot and killed. Nick's (George Eads) first comment at the Cs is that he wanted to go grocery shopping too. Very out of character and irrelevant that two DBs could lead him to think of shopping. Sara (Jorga Fox) replies someone had the same idea. The Db boy, Hector has prison tattoos so could have been the intended target. Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) comments on the woman being an unlucky customer, meaning her shooting could have been accidental. However Nick comments on the Gs (Gun shot) wounds and one in her left eye. »

[DVD Review] The People I've Slept With

28 March 2011 1:35 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Explorations of female sexuality have always faced considerably more resistance than those espousing the media dominating male sex drive, wherein a man who sleeps with numerous women (James Bond) is applauded. It’s a paradigm that really only flows in one direction and filmmakers have been expounding on that hypocrisy for ages. Some films turn the concept on its head in elegant ways while others do it with all the subtlety of a kick to the head. The People I’ve Slept With falls into the latter category, but it’s not without its charm.

Nikki (Karin Anna Cheung) likes sex. Whether or not society thinks that ladylike doesn’t really matter to her; she likes sex. Each night brings a different conquest which she catalogs with a small picture of the night’s stud memorialized with a nickname like “Mystery Man”. These are her trophies, and consequently her best »

New this Week: ‘Sucker Punch,’ and ‘The Tourist (DVD)’

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick RulesZachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Robert Capron

Sucker PunchEmily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm

Movie of the Week

Sucker Punch

The Stars: Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm

The Plot: A young girl (Browning) is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.

The Buzz: It’s certainly a great time to be a fifteen-year-old boy, isn’t it? It’s a shame I’m twenty years past my prime – Sucker Punch would have been 100% pure Pavlovian arousal for me back then. The batch of battling bombshells cartwheeling in all their gorgeously rendered video-game glory, coupled with the film’s flawless focus on, and impenetrable belief in, the great escape that can »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.08: "Fracked"

15 March 2011 2:07 PM, PDT | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

A Db is found in a spring. Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) comments they're all named 'Anthony' and in cement shoes. Ray (Laurence Fishburne) comments on it being a sulphur spring and if bathed in, can provide a beautiful complexion. Brass remarks that the Db's complexion has improved. The Db has an 'L' shaped wound on his head which Ray explains means his head was hit with a pistol. David (David Berman) says the water's nice. Ray believes he was dead when he hit the water or afterwards. Nick (George Eads) thinks it's a body dump. Ray thinks the Pmi was about 4-7 hours and takes a water sample. Just as in last week's episode, Ray, Nick and Brass are called to the Cs together again. Nick spots an oil deposit on the ground, probably from the vehicle that dumped the Db. Also like last episode, Doc Robbins (Robert David Hall) and »

Scream 4

Opens: April 15th 2011

Cast: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Mary McDonnell, Emma Roberts Director: Wes Craven

Summary: Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with family and friends, but it also brings about the return of Ghostface which puts the whole town in danger.

Analysis: Back in late 1996 when I first began covering film news, "Scream" was released and became more than just a sleeper hit. After years of genre movies being relegated to direct-to-video status, this comedic slasher spawned the biggest surge in the horror film genre since "Halloween" almost two decades before. Its post-modern stylings and witty self-aware dialogue went on to be a big influence on films and television in general.

Yet the "Scream" series itself never could quite capture that glory again. By the time the »

Episode Recap: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - 11.07: "Bump and Grind"

7 March 2011 1:05 PM, PST | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

A gruesome, gut-wrenching opening (no pun) as a tortured man is fed some soup which contains shredded credit card. Ray (Laurence Fishburne), Nick (George Eads) and Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) are called to a Cs where the truck driver reported something oozing from his truck. Ray tests the ooze which turns out to be blood. Ray comments on 666 being the call sign for suspicious ooze, the 'primordial variety' after Nick asks what the call sign is for this. Ray was also thinking of buying a cappuccino machine, which he says after the truck is opened to reveal shredded rubbish and Db parts, identified by Nick. Ray comes across a bit of a shredded credit card and Brass finds a human eye. "Here's lookin' at you kid." The driver works for a disposal company, where the manager, Tom is questioned. The plant shreds all kinds of material, but maintains a body couldn't »
