Over/Under: ‘Some Like It Hot’ vs. ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’

8 November 2011 8:07 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Billy Wilder’s career is a lengthy one, full of highly acclaimed features. But out of all the great films that he made over the course of forty some years, Some Like It Hot may be the most famous. And when you talk about what his masterpiece was creatively, it’s often mentioned right up there with movies like Sunset Boulevard and The Apartment. But I guess that’s no surprise, it’s got Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis acting like ladies and Marilyn Monroe slinking around in cocktail dresses. That’s memorable stuff. Ted Kotcheff’s career was a lengthy but unspectacular one. He mostly did TV work and is probably best known for being the guy who directed the original Rambo film First Blood. But what I best remember him for is a movie about two guys and a dead dude called Weekend at Bernie’s. I must have watched it about a million times »

Life imitates "art" as Denver morons pull a real-life Weekend at Bernie's

17 September 2011 3:23 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Jonathan Silverman and Andrew McCarthy had such a good idea, they did it twice -- lugging around a deceased Terry Kiser and using his clout for their own benefit. Two Denver dudes thought the amusingly morbid concept of the Weekend At Bernie's movies was clever enough to replicate in real life. While not as extensive or creative as the corpse usage in the movies, Robert Jeffrey Young and Mark Rubinson had plenty of chuckles courtesy of their dead friend Jeffrey Jarrett -- when they found »

Denver Idiots Pull A Weekend At Bernie's With Their Friend's Corpse

16 September 2011 5:28 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

No matter what else happens, this is bound to be the most disturbing film-related story you.ll read all weekend. The Denver Post reports that Robert Young, 43, and Mark Rubinson, 25, have been charged with .abusing a corpse, identity theft and criminal impersonation. after they took their friend.s corpse out for a night on the town in a morbid scene ripped right out of the 1989 comedy Weekend at Bernie.s. As I.m sure you all remember, Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman starred in Bernie.s as down-and-out employees of an abusive jerk (Terry Kiser) who pretend their murdered boss is still alive for a complicated weekend. The real-life Colorado incident isn.t quite as sordid, though it.s equally grotesque. Young, according to reports, was staying with the deceased, Jeffrey Jarrett, while he tried to get back on his feet. After coming home one night, Young found Jarrett .unresponsive. »

Top Ten Tuesday: We Like To Party

24 May 2011 9:25 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

I’m just gonna say it… We Like To Party, but even we can’t party as hard as the Wolfpack! Alan, Stu and Phil are bringing the party back to theaters this Thursday with The Hangover Part II, so we thought, what better way to ring in the party than to count down our favorite party animals!

These are the cool kids that bring the party! They rage, they get down… heck, they might even get “jiggy wit it”! Sure, they might not be from the fluorescent box of crayons, but these folks can MacGyver a good time out of a paper clip, a broomstick and a Nelson cassette. (Yep, I said it!)

So, without further adeu…
