Gotham's Reckoning: Deconstructing The New Trailer For 'The Dark Knight Rises'

1 May 2012 8:39 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Nothing is guaranteed to make the internet light up quite the same way as a new trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises," the third and final Batman film from Christopher Nolan, following "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight." No one, bar perhaps J.J. Abrams, has proved quite as expert at teasing audiences with promos without giving the game away, and the latest, curiously elegaic trailer for the film has followed the same path, making people ever more excited about the movie while still leaving them with plenty of questions about what's to come.

We've delved deep into the latest clip to analyze the hints, teases and theories displayed in the two-and-a-half-minute trailer. Are we right? Are we barking up the wrong tree entirely? Do you have your own suppositions about what we're seeing? Let us know in the comments section. "The Dark Knight Rises" hits theaters on July 20th, and »

Batman Rises Trailer 3

30 April 2012 11:14 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Batman Rises: The Dark Knight Rises trailer 3, Anne Hathaway The Dark Knight Rises trailer 3 is out. The search for the Tdkr trailer 3 has been as frantic as — if not more so than — Batman’s search for Bane or Bane’s search for Batman. I’m not sure exactly who’ll be searching for whom, but I do hope Bane’s dialogue will be more intelligible once the movie is released. Still having trouble understanding him, though I did get "Your punishment must be more severe!" (Please scroll down for the Tdkr trailer.) Now, the best lines — and classiest look — in the Tdkr trailer 3 belong to Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, e.g., "There’s a storm coming…" and "You should be as afraid of him as I am" and "You don’t owe these people anymore! You’ve given them everything." Something tells me The Dark Knight Rises will belong to »

The Badass Celebrity Smack Down

27 April 2012 9:33 AM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Comicpalooza, Texas' premier comic book and pop culture convention, is gearing up for its Memorial Day weekend run in Houston (May 25–27). And while last year was great, this year there's something very special planned.

With a lineup crammed full of stars such as Michael Biehn (The Terminator, The Victim), Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Andromeda), Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), Claudia Christian (Babylon 5), George Takei (Star Trek) and Kristin Bauer (True Blood), the upcoming convention is already pretty extraordinary. But Comicpalooza founder John Simons has devised an event to make 2012's fest even more kickass...if that's even possible.

Simons had an epiphany recently. "The next best thing to being a sci-fi or action hero," Simons told me, "has to be shooting a sci-fi or action hero with a gun — or maybe being shot by one." And this simple thought led him to conceive a bit of »

The Dark Knight Rises: Record IMAX Footage

26 April 2012 5:27 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Christian Bale, The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight Rises will have more IMAX footage than any other Hollywood movie in history. As per a Wall Street Journal report, Christopher Nolan’s third and last installment in his Batman trilogy will offer more than one hour of scenes filmed with those cumbersome IMAX cameras. For comparison’s sake, The Dark Knight, the biggest 2008 blockbuster at the domestic box office, had 40 minutes of IMAX footage. But what’s the big IMAX deal? After all, movies such as Tim Burton / Johnny Depp / Mia Wasikowska’s Alice in Wonderland, James Cameron / Sam Worthington’s Avatar, Gary Ross / Jennifer Lawrence / Josh Hutcherson’s The Hunger Games, and Bill Condon / Robert Pattinson / Kristen Stewart’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 were all shown on IMAX screens. And upcoming IMAX releases include Joss Whedon / Chris Evans / Chris Hemsworth’s The Avengers, Ridley Scott / Noomi Rapace / Michael Fassbender’s Prometheus, »

The Dark Knight Rises, Spider-man Trailers: The Avengers

25 April 2012 4:04 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Tom Hardy, The Dark Knight Rises Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight Rises got a nice plug when six minutes of footage premiered before IMAX screenings of Paramount’s Tom Cruise blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. (One could also say that MI4 got a boost from the Tdkr footage as well.) On May 4, The Dark Knight Rises trailer 3 will premiere before screenings of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, a Marvel production to be released by Walt Disney Studios. But Batman is a DC comics character, how could that be? Well, good business sense. That’s it. And remember, as MTV.com explains, back in 2008 The Dark Knight trailer was shown before Marvel’s Iron Man. And it gets better for fanboys, fangirls, and fanseniors: the new The Amazing Spider-Man trailer will also be screened before The Avengers. The rebooted Spider-Man has been much less buzzed about than either The Avengers, which »

The Dark Knight Rises: CinemaCon Thunderous Applause

24 April 2012 9:43 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Christian Bale, The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight Rises was a hit at CinemaCon on Tuesday. According to TheWrap’s Brent Lang, Tdkr director / co-writer Christopher Nolan "spliced together a nearly wordless series of shots that showed the caped crusader (Christian Bale) duking it out with Bane (Tom Hardy), tangling with a very sultry Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and once again being called on to save Gotham City from the brink of anarchy." Lang adds that "the applause that greeted the footage was thunderous, so much so that Warner Bros. might think about using it as a trailer." EW.com offers a few more details about the Dark Knight Rises footage, including the following: The clips began with an extended scene of Bane … and his crew hijacking a plane in an innovative way. Then it cuts to a series of shots showing Christian Bale as an aging — and perhaps ailing — Batman. »

Bane Occupies ‘Wall Street’ in New Images from The Dark Knight Rises

12 April 2012 12:16 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Whether the forthcoming The Dark Knight Rises will deliver a box office knockout the way it’s predecessor did in 2008 is hard to predict, in this, a summer of some truly outstanding blockbusters. But one thing is certain: it will be a tough contender.

And speaking of tough, there’s the movie’s chief henchman, Bane, as played by Tom Hardy. In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the character is seen taking hostages in what appears to be Gotham’s equivalent of the New York Stock Exchange. You can check out the new images, courtesy of EW (via Batman-News.com), below.

Director Christopher Nolan, notorious for playing his cards close to the vest when it comes to plot points, chose his words carefully when speaking to the magazine about the character.

“So what can I not tell you about my film,” Nolan said. “[Bane] represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention, »

Our weekly round-up of the big news stories from the world of movie superheroes…

With Marvel's The Avengers arriving in cinemas in just a few short weeks, you'd expect Disney to kick the marketing campaign up a gear, but when said marketing campaign has already been in overdrive for the last couple of months, things can start to get a bit overwhelming. There's been so much Avengers-related promotional material this past week, it's starting to seem like the only thing we don't know about the movie is the identity of those pesky aliens (or perhaps we already do, if these Heroclix figurines are to be believed). So, what have the past seven days brought us then? Well for starters, the embargo was lifted on sites lucky enough to receive an invitation to visit the set, with Collider, SuperHeroHype and AintItCool all putting together decent reports that also include interviews with »

The Dark Knight Rises Rated PG-13?

Tom Hardy, The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight Rises has been rated PG-13 "for intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language," according to various online reports. Now, that Christopher Nolan's upcoming Batman movie will get a PG-13 rating is totally expected, but at this point in time the only PG-13-rated The Dark Knight Rises listed on the Motion Picture Association of America's website is The Dark Knight Rises' Prologue. That's it. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20. A few weeks ago, Nolan reportedly screened a rough cut of the film to Warner Bros. executives. No word on whether or not the film is actually ready to be rated. The purported source for this news is a "Warner Bros. exhibitor's" site. So, either the MPAA will release an official rating to The Dark Knight Rises on Monday, or … this is another "Gary Ross is »
