Matt Ember and Tom Astle, a fast-rising writing duo in animation, have signed with Verve for representation. They were previously at UTA. Ember and Astle wrote Epic, the upcoming 3D CGI feature from Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox that is an adaptation of the William Joyce book The Leaf Men. The movie opens May 24. The pair just came off of working on Me and My Shadow for DreamWorks Animation and are now working on Dwa’s Happy Smekday!, which is in production and has a release date of November 26, 2014. When Martin Scorsese retitled Brian Selznick’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret to ‘Hugo’ there was a case to be made that the film’s title at least retained some of the original’s character, not so with William Joyce’s The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs which Fox have snappily retitled as ‘Epic’.
Good news then that they are working with Blue Sky Studios on this film, which is out on the 22nd of May here in the UK, as the partnership has a solid foundation for new projects. Today we’ve got a new look at a scene from the film which shows off the quality of animation as well as the tone of the film rather well.
Christoph Waltz is Mandrake and he is front and centre in this new clip. The character design is rather fetching and of course the animation is spot on. »

The Leafmen characters featured in "Epic" are inspired by William Joyce's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs," which introduced the Samurai-like warriors. It's unreal how 2013 has really kicked it up a notch poster-count-wise. It seems that every major, and soon minor distributor, will be adding 50 posters per movie at this rate. We now have 20 posters for Epic which is helmed by Chris Wedge, with the voice talents of Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Beyoncé Knowles, Johnny Knoxville, Judah Friedlander, Steven Tyler, Pitbull and Blake Anderson. A new preview clip from 3D animated film Epic has been released by Sugarscape.
Beyoncé features in the footage as Queen Tara, a Mother Nature-style ruler of the magical forest that provides the backdrop for the film.
Epic, based on William Joyce's The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, centres on a young girl called Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) who finds herself transported to an unknown world where she must fight to save both it and the real world.
Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari and Chris O'Dowd are also among the star-studded voice cast for the 20th Century Fox film.
Epic will be released in cinemas on May 22. »

New Delhi, April 30: Hollywood film "Epic", a 3D animated adventure comedy, will hit Indian screens May 17, a week before it opens in the Us.
The Fox Star Studios' fantasy movie is based on William Joyce's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs". It has voiceovers by Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Steven Tyler and Beyonce Knowles.

Some new TV spots for Fox’s latest animated effort Epic have made it to the web. Based on William Joyce’s children’s book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, the 3D pic follows a teenager (Amanda Seyfried) who is shrunk down to insect-proportions while exploring a magical forest and finds herself caught up in a battle between the virtuous Leaf Men and the dastardly Boggans. Christoph Waltz, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Beyoncé Knowles and Jason Sudeikis are a few of the other high-profile celebs voicing this one to life. Rise Of The Guardians wasn't quite the hit it should have been. Its director, Peter Ramsey, takes us through the last six months...
Cards on the table: I really, really liked Rise Of The Guardians. I liked it when I first saw it, and I liked it when I caught up with the film again on Blu-ray (it's out now). Having criticised previous, less ambitious DreamWorks movies in the past, I was one of many who sat back perplexed as to why it didn't ignite at the box office in the way that the studio's previous features had. So: what happened? What went wrong? What could have been done differently?
I thus got back in touch with the film's director, Peter Ramsey, and put some of those questions to him....

Beyoncé has discussed her role in forthcoming animated movie Epic in a new behind-the-scenes video from the production.
The music superstar voices the character of Queen Tara, a Mother Nature-style ruler of the magical forest where the film takes place.
"What I like most about Tara is that she sets a great example for the people she protects," Beyoncé said. "I've always wanted to be a queen."
Epic, based on William Joyce's The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, centres on a young girl called Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) who finds herself transported to an unknown world where she must fight to save both it and the real world.
Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari and Chris O'Dowd are also among the star-studded voice cast for the 20th Century Fox film.
