A couple make small talk at dinner, interspersed with flashes of what is about to befall them. Their home is invaded and the husband is killed presumably during the attack. It was apparent their marriage is over. Flack (Eddie Cahill) says the wife called for help which must have been a feat itself considering she was bound, gagged and in the bedroom. There were two intruders and both wore ski masks, what we'd call balaclavas. The daughter Megan, (Heather Sossaman) was at the movie theatre. Mac (Gary Sinise) questions all the houses in the neighbourhood to find out "why the attackers chose this one?" Lindsay (Anna Belknap) processes the Cs as we get more flashes of the events from the night. She finds a ski mask under the husband, Ron's (Vincent Ventresca) Db and the empty box that was delivered. Jo (Sela Ward) finds a hair from a slashed painting. »

A cage fight ensues, where Petrov (Tito Ortiz) is beaten by Ryan. He accuses Ryan of cheating and they make it seem like he holds a grudge against him and will be up to no good. A burned Db is found. Flack (Eddie Cahill) asks Mac (Gary Sinise) if he's skipped breakfast. A melted driver's licence was found which Ided him as Ryan (Alex Nesic). Mac believes the Db was burned here and accelerant was used. The body was allowed to burn. Mac: "Somebody wanted to destroy the evidence." Sid (Robert Joy) is out of autopsy again and gasoline was used. Hawkes (Hill Harper) wonders why it kept burning, not being pedantic but he was an Me before and they didn't need for him to ask that question, though it was for our benefit. Sid believes it was the candle wick effect. His clothing kept on burning like an inside out candle wick. »

Jo (Sela ward) is thrown against a mirror and hovers between consciousness, as a man walks around the room, which we know can only be Curtis (Jason Wiles) and throws bullets around. 48 hours earlier Jo spots a man outside the courtroom, who is revealed as Frank (Michael Weston). Serena (Jenn Proske) is distraught over Curtis walking free. Jo is adamant they will get him. The Senator (Jeffrey Nordling) asks how she can say that. Jo isn't involved in the case and "the case still fell apart." That's a damning indictment against Lindsay (Anna Belknap) and her skills if ever there was one, ha. 3 years ago Washington DC, a flashback to Jo meeting the Senator and Serena. He doesn't want any press involvement that's why he called in the FBI. Serena was drinking and blames herself. Present day Jo gets out the evidence and Mac (Gary Sinise) reaffirms she can't be on this case, »

A man comes too on the floor of an apartment and the TV plays in the background, a scene about self defence and not being believed. He leaves on his bike. A jury and judge arrive to view a Cs and the judge is shot by a shooter on a bike. Mac (Gary Sinise) picks up his rolling cigar. Flack (Eddie Cahill) comments the criminal court judge was shot under the noses of the cops and the jury was sequestered. Judge Vinnie Corsica (Brad Blaisdell) was presiding over the Markov trial, a Russian mobster. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) talks about him being the "Sammy Bull of Russian organized crime and Markov has "a dozen bodies on him." Mac: "Looks like it just went to a baker's dozen." Groan that was definitely one of Stella's lines. Hawkes (Hill Harper) and Lindsay (Anna Belknap) process the Cs. Hawkes finds a smashed bullet. Three »

A teen party goes viral and out of control when a balcony collapses, leaving one dead, Libby (Valentina de Angelis). Flack (Eddie Cahill) calls it "most parents' worst nightmare: someone spills their drink on a new carpet." Continuing, "Welcome to the end of the world as we know it." Wow Flack actually got the end line before the opening credits. Sid (Robert Joy) actually gets out of the autopsy lab to personally attend the Db at the scene. She was asphyxiated. Jo (Sela ward) estimates there were than fifty on the balcony, plus the marble table. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) collects prints from the table. Back at the lab, Hawkes (Hill Harper) and Lindsay (Anna Belknap) calculate the stress analysis (could have just put her on the contraption.) Hawkes calculates without the use of a calculator, but Lindsay insists on using a calculator anyway, as if he'd be wrong. The balcony »

College kids run around a cemetery on Hallowe'en and a girl falls into an open grave and lands on a Db. Jo (Sela Ward) comments, "It's not often you find a Db where it actually belongs." Mac (Gary Sinise) claims he was dead before he got here. Flack (Eddie Cahill) is canvassing the area for a murder weapon and Jo asks, "expecting the dead to speak." The Db was hit before the fall. Nice moment between Jo and Flack that's what gives this show so much more in terms of character development and why it deserves to continue. That and great storylines. Oh okay I've had my rant at the beginning, never mind! The Db has four phones on him, which Flack calls overkill Mac: "...so does dying in somebody else's grave." Fisher (David Burke) is responsible for the cemetery and claims he isn't trained to handle this kind of death, »

Aaron Sims’ sci-fi short film “Archetype” is apparently so good, Hollywood took notice and now “Chronicle” producer John Davis will be blowing it up into a full-length feature film, with Sims directing. Curiously, he won’t be writing the script, that will be the job of Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy. Odd, that. You’d think he’d at least get first crack at the script. Anyways, here’s what it’s all about: RL7 is an eight-foot tall combat robot that goes on the run after malfunctioning with vivid memories of once being human. As its creators and the military close in, RL7 battles its way to uncovering the shocking truth behind its mysterious visions and past. The short stars Robert Joy and David Anders of “Heroes” and “Alias” fame. Well, the voice of Anders, anyway. It’s kinda like “Robocop” crossed with “Short Circuit”. Minus the jokes. The short is only 5 minutes long, »

Producer John Davis, who was one of the people that shepherded Josh Trank and Max Landis’ box office hit Chronicle to the big screen, has zeroed in on another filmmaker with a sci-fi flavoured short film background who he thinks might make the leap. He’s just picked up the rights to Aaron Sims’ Archetype, which you can watch below.Archetype follows what happens when a hulking war machine suddenly seems to malfunction in the field. It’s brought in for testing and questioning by Jones (Robert Joy) about why it shut down its fellow battle ‘bots with an Em pulse. Seems there might be a ghost in the machine, with RL7 getting a case of the Johnny Fives. Or, given what we learn later in the short, more likely it’s all gone a bit Robocop…Sims isn’t exactly a Hollywood newcomer: he runs a VFX and design »

A prisoner listens to Riley (Robbie Amell) play basketball on a smuggled radio. That opening scene looked like he was going to get out something other than a radio. Riley meets his brother Hank (Justin Bruening) at the prison and he wants to see his girlfriend. Cue his Db girlfriend. Flack (Eddie Cahill) ascertains she's been stabbed several times. Hank moved in three weeks ago. His name is written on the door in blood. Mac (Gary Sinise) "Looks like Angela left us a message." Hank is still on drugs, as Riley says a prayer at the dinner table and Flack arrests Hank. The Cs is processed and Flack questions Hank by showing him photos of the Cs, in particular the one with his name. He loves her. There was no forced entry. Flack posits it must be tough on him and how many times did he promise her he'd change. »

Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) wakes up in the street with blood on his head and still hazy. He reaches for the gun in his leg holster but it's missing. Cooper (Jeananne Goossen) has his gun. The other rookies tell him what happened. Cooper had to fire after Danny was hit with a bottle and the Db had a gun. Mac (Gary Sinise) tells Danny about Cooper being by him and Danny didn't ID himself as a police officer as this would have made matters worse. The rest of his story is based on what he's been told by the others. Hawkes (Hill Harper) and Adam (Aj Buckley) arrive at the scene to collect evidence and Lindsay tells Ia Adler (Dean Norris) she's taking Danny to the ER and he doesn't have to make a statement yet. Sid (Robert Joy) removed glass from the Db's hand, which matches Danny's headwound. The Vic, »

The scene opens with a woman who is dressing to impress and she meets up with another one. They steal a Ferrari and drive away. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) briefs his rookie officers on the car theft ring. Sixteen Ferraris have been stolen over the past four months. The first time we get to see him doing a briefing as sergeant. Danny rides with his rookie partner Lauren Cooper (Jeananne Goossen) and they drive to five parking garages. At the fifth one they come across a parked Ferrari with the engine still on. There's a dead woman in the boot/trunk. One of the car thieves. Mac (Gary Sinise) arrives and comments on the murder, "That photo puts her behind the wheel, now we got to figure out who put her in the trunk." Jo (Sela ward) analyzes the interior and finds traces of powder flecks, as well as a crushed electric device on the ground. »

Two men watch a woman perform on stage, she is the girlfriend of one of them. The man is later found shot. Lindsay (Anna Belknap) is on the scene after Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) has already arrived. Lots of lines follow about being busy and now she's looking for her husband, a police sergeant; scenes which always seem forced and oh so not romantic. Miranda, (Aly Michalka) the girlfriend found Michael (Sean Davis) shot to death and didn't know what to do as she tells Flack. (Eddie Cahill) Her dress is covered with his blood. Mac (Gary Sinise) returns and Danny says he knew he'd be back, then Lindsay has to get the final word in saying it was her who told him Mac would return. In a scene from September 11 2001, Mac (Gary Sinise) cuts himself shaving and Claire (Jaime Ray Newman) calls 911 for help, as a joke (she doesn't really call - they're just fooling around like a married couple). Mac's taking John to the opera: that's John from the robbery squad. She then sees two tickets to the opera behind her. Claire: "What would you do without me?" What he's always done before they met and after he lost her, muddle through somehow, with his mind on the job and getting no sleep whatsoever. The radio reports on September 11 2011, the tenth anniversary of the attacks. "We will never forget." At the lab, Adam (Aj Buckley) calls Jo (Sela Ward) 'boss.' She corrects him, she's "interim boss" until Sinclair finds a replacement for Mac. In the meantime, she puts Mac's nameplate back on his desk. Adam reminds us he's been gone four months. Danny »

This short film turned out better than I had hoped. I only wish the film were longer. I wanted more by the end of it.

The official site for Aaron Sims' sci-fi short Archetype has been updated with the online premiere of the 7-minute film. As mention before in our previous post, Sims is a veteran creature/concept designer with a prolific resume in some of the biggest summer blockbuster including the recent Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and The Thing. The passion project by the visionary artist is produced through his own company and stars Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, CSI:ny) and David Anders (Heros, 24). Compare with other spectacular visual effects films from major studio in Hollywood, the eye candy holds up fairly strong with just only a fraction of the budget. It seems like the ending is a prelude to »

Aaron Sims should be familiar to a lot of us here. Maybe the name isn't but his character designs for films like The Incredible Hulk and Green Lantern have been posted on the site several times. From these brief snippets, feels like it will wrestle with issues familiar with Robocop. The internal battle of when you cease being human and start being a robot. While the impressive visuals remind me of something from District 9, or Chronicle. Directed by Aaron Sims, starring Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, CSI: NY) and David Anders (Heroes, 24). Aaron Sims is a prominent creature/conceptual designer who has helped bring filmmakers’ visions to life for the past 25 years. During his illustrious career, Aaron has worked with visionary directors such as Steven Spielberg, Zack Snyder & Martin Campbell on such projects as War Of The Worlds, Sucker Punch, Green Lantern and many more.
