Gareth Edwards Back for Two More Godzilla Features

22 May 2014 4:26 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

At the end of the day Legendary Pictures' Godzilla did more right than it did wrong, and we can only hope that the next movies in the franchise will feature more of the title character than we got this go-around. Apparently director Gareth Edwards has two more shots to hit the mark.

In an article announcing his participation in a Star Wars standalone film over on The Hollywood Reporter, this nugget of news came to light... "Edwards is attached to direct Godzilla 2 and 3, but while story ideas exist, the Godzilla 2 project is still in early development and does not even have a script."

Godzilla 2 Becomes a No-Brainer for Legendary and Warner Bros

20 May 2014 | Horror Asylum | See recent Horror Asylum news »

If you haven't already caught the monstrous mayhem that is Gareth Edwards' 'Godzilla' in theatres this past week then we suggest you get down there as soon as possible. In its first weekend the blockbuster managed to take in an impressive $196.2 million worldwide and so of course Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are very keen for work to begin right away on the sequel. And now that an official 'Godzilla 2' is in the works it is assumed by most that British director Edwards would helm again for the follow-up having made such an excellent job the first time around. 'Godzilla' stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson ('Kick-Ass 2'), Bryan Cranston ('Breaking Bad'), Elizabeth Olsen ('Silent House'), Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins ('Made in Dagenham'), David Strathairn ('Lincoln'), Ken Watanabe ('Inception'), Richard T. Jones ('Event Horizon'), Patrick Sabongui, Yuki Morita, »

Second Opinion – Godzilla (2014)

18 May 2014 2:40 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Godzilla, 2014.

Directed by Gareth Edwards

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cj Adams, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, Richard T. Jones, Victor Rasuk, Carson Bolde and Bryan Cranston.

Synopsis:

The world’s most famous monster is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

This latest incarnation of Godzilla may well do a lot of things right if you’re a fan of kaiju monster flicks and have ‘always wanted’ to see what would happen if the legendary creature went up against mankind and other monsters with a mega production budget behind it. If, however, the sight of this is not enough and, like me, you want at least some semblance of character to go with your action, then Godzilla will strike you as a massive bore. A Godzilla-sized bore, wreaking havoc and destruction on your patience whilst stomping all over your expectations. »

Film Review: Hollywood’s ‘Godzilla’ Misses, Mocks Ishirô Honda’s Main Warning Message

17 May 2014 12:42 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Except for the clear purpose of cashing in on yet another “Godzilla” remake, everything is happening for no reason. Worst of all, what is ensuing misses and even mocks the reason why Ishirô Honda originated 1954’s “Godzilla” in the first place.

Since then, times have dramatically changed and blockbuster Hollywood movies have a new boss to answer to: the box office. Still, we can’t forgive a film that focuses on CGI and big-city destruction while assuming we don’t care about a story and the honesty of where that plot needs to have its roots. The original “Godzilla” is an understandable outpouring from Japan when it was suffering in real life. America isn’t traumatized here.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

It’s insulting to audiences to think the eye candy fed to the two holes above our nose is more important than the brain that sits atop our head. Our minds have to be equally satisfied. »
