Newswire: America’s court system forced to rule on vampire leprechaun case

Leprechaun creator Mark Jones, the man who helped make Warwick Davis a household name in households that like rhyme-heavy horror comedies more than Star Wars or Willow, has just lodged a legal complaint centered on his latest project. Jones is accusing a supposed lawyer of ruining his plans for Vamprechaun, a movie that sounds like Jones invented it while staring, bleary-eyed, at his kids’ overly-sugared breakfast cereals:

(Images: General Mills)

Jones is accusing Lance Thompson—a man who secured funding and acted as the production attorney for his 2014 revenge thriller Scorned—of falsely representing himself as a lawyer, and torpedoing Vamprechaun’s chances of ever merrily jigging its way to unlife. The troubles apparently started during a car trip the two men took together, in which Jones explained the film’s premise. (Or, in the words of the legal complaint: “Jones simply explained that the idea involved a leprechaun ...

'Leprechaun' Creator Sues Over 'Vamprechaun' Film

'Leprechaun' Creator Sues Over 'Vamprechaun' Film
The man behind the cult horror-comedy Leprechaun franchise is out for blood in a copyright-infringement lawsuit over his new Vamprechaun project.

Mark Jones is suing Lance Thompson for allegedly lying about being an attorney and causing him to lose financing on his film, according to a complaint filed in California federal court.

Jones says he began developing the "vamprechaun" character — a leprechaun-vampire hybrid — in or before 2009. He put the project on hold because he was focused on finding funding for his 2013 film, Scorned, which was further along in the development process. Thompson secured funding for the film and also...

Artwork for horror movie Gnome Alone starring Verne Troyer

If long-time Leprechaun fans were upset with what Lionsgate and WWE Studios did with their gritty reboot of Leprechaun: Origins, then you may get your fix with Gnome Alone, which stars the former Mini Me, Verne Troyer.

Based on the title, we can only assume this will have the tongue in cheek humour of the original Leprechaun series. Check out the artwork and synopsis below:

“When timid college student Zoe witnesses a hit-and-run, the dying victim gives her a strange amulet. Suddenly, all those who have offended Zoe in her life begin dying horrible deaths at the hands of a malicious gnome (Troyer). When Zoe discovers the horrible history behind the amulet, will she be able to harness its magical power before the gnome begins killing those closest to her?”

And speaking of Leprechaun, original star Warwick Davis is teaming up with its original director Mark Jones to star in Vamprechaun.

Shlocky charms: The crazy rise and 'terrifying' return of 'Leprechaun'

Shlocky charms: The crazy rise and 'terrifying' return of 'Leprechaun'
How did a low budget horror movie about a diminutive Irish monster spawn five sequels, a new reboot, and the career of Jennifer Aniston? EW tracks the deranged history of the Leprechaun franchise.

British actor Warwick Davis says he has “specific” fans—well-wishers who want to discuss just one of the several fantasy franchises in which he has appeared. “People talk about Star Wars, people talk about Harry Potter,” he explains, “and people talk about Leprechaun.”

Alert readers will have noticed that one of these franchises is not like the others. While Star Wars and Harry Potter have raked in billions of dollars,

SX_Tape Review

Just as quickly as Afflicted redefined the “found footage” horror subgenre, SX_Tape came along and proved there are still Plenty of opportunities for filmmakers to exploit first-person horror normalities. One day there’s a bright hope, the next there’s a disgusting reminder that for every original idea, someone else will rehash the past few years of duds for their own ill-conceived shitfest. I want to remain positive, happily accepting an advancement in “found footage” horror – but it takes a certain type of awful to make me hate a movie in which our lead, possessed character jumps up and down screaming “Let Me Suck Your Dick!” To think some inexperienced filmmaker could just waltz into stardom with such a – wait, this was directed by Bernard Rose of Candyman fame? Oh boy, where’s Tony Todd when you need him?

When has a sex tape ever gone wrong, am I right?

Mark Jones' Vamprechaun Heads to IndieGoGo

During his appearance on Dread Central Live, Leprechaun franchise creator Mark Jones (Scorned) talked a bit about his next horror project, Vamprechaun, and now he wants You to help deliver the goods!

"I actually have a new horror franchise that I came up with, and it actually may involve Warwick Davis," Jones told co-hosts Staci Layne Wilson and Vanessa "Gore Whore" Gomez during the broadcast. "In it a vampire bites a Leprechaun, creating a Vamprechaun."

"So now you have this little vampire, completely different character, completely different prosthetics design... Being that he's little, he'll be biting your ankles instead of your neck because he can't reach it, and he gets all these women... It will be comedy-horror of course, and we're in talks now trying to put that together. I think it will be the next big franchise, and I think Warwick's fans would love it so if we make that happen,

Manchester City v Barcelona | The Great British Sewing Bee | Attenborough's Natural Curiosities | How China Fooled the World | Dissected: The Incredible Human Hand | House of Fools | Sexting Teacher | Doll & Em

Football: Manchester City v Barcelona

7.30pm, ITV

It's the knockout stage in club football's most prestigious contest, with some fascinating ties plucked from Uefa's goldfish bowl. Arsenal host a seemingly imperious Bayern side tomorrow (on Sky Sports 1 and Sky1), but it's Barcelona's visit to the Etihad stadium that's likely to provide most interest. City are in uncharted Champions League territory here, while Barca have been uncharacteristically slipshod in La Liga of late. A dour 0-0 seems unlikely. Mark Jones

Scorned Review

If I learned anything from Red Clover, it’s that Billy Zane and leprechaun movies don’t mix – yet I still gave Scored the good old college try. “But Matt, does that mean there are evil leprechauns in Scorned?!” No random commenter, even though a monster leprechaun might have presented Something interesting, but Scorned is written and directed by Leprechaun helmer Mark Jones – what could go wrong, right?! I know, I’m softening you up for the surprising fact that Scorned is quite possibly one of the most boring, uninspired, and poorly imagined thrillers of the year – and if you think I’ve already used the world “scorned” too many times, I dare you to drink every time Scorned references its own title – knowingly. Actually, I recommend you play that drinking game, because being blackout drunk may be the best way to watch Jones’ latest. Hell, the same rules might even help my own review.
