- His group Jimmy and the Boys had a #8 hit on the Australian pop chart in 1981 with a song called "They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me" which was written by Tim Finn (a co-frontman for the New Zealand band, Split Enz) when he didn't want to release it himself.

- In 2018 he was Awarded Full Membership of the Order of Australia, General Division, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Il as part of the Australia Day Honors for his contribution to Entertainment and Literature.
- Was Artistic Director for the Sydney Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Segment (horses) and the Harbour Spectacular Closing Ceremony.
