As long as you live in the right cities, anyway. Paul V. Seetachitt’s “Rock Jocks” is coming to a city near you. Well, if your city happens to have an Alamo Drafthouse theater in it. At the moment, the movie will only be appearing in 5 cities, with moviegoers in the Houston screening getting a Q&A with actor Andrew Bowen, while Felicia Day will be doing similar duties for the Austin screening. For a complete list of locations/dates, see below. Rock Jocks tells the story of one night in the offices of a group of dysfunctional government employees who must save the Earth by shooting down any and all asteroids that threaten our planet using special laser-equipped satellites in orbit. Starring Gerry Bednob, Andrew Bowen, Justin Chon, Felicia Day, Jason Mewes, Doug Jones, and Kevin Wu. After its screening tour, the movie will hit DVD, Digital Download and On Demand on August 13, 2013. Tue. »

Review Ron Hogan 17 Jun 2013 - 08:15
Falling Skies delivers a slower episode than last week's action-heavy two-parter. Here's Ron's review of Badlands...
This review contains spoilers.
3.3 Badlands
When you look at the television landscape, you see period dramas (Mad Men), expensive costume dramas (Game of Thrones), police procedurals, teen supernatural romances, and every other basic genre of film covered. In Falling Skies, you get a nice weekly dose of PG-13 sci-fi action with a positive, humanity-can-rise-above-our-differences message. It's a fun bit of television, but you can't rise above your differences if you don't have differences.
Thus far, the show has done a good job of keeping the antagonists somehow different from our heroes. Between harnessed kids, Pope back when he was a bad guy, and various potential collaborators (Karen in particular), there has always been a strong potential for human antagonists, but until this season, it has rarely been blatant. »

Wow, do you ever need to be watching Falling Skies this season. If you haven’t watched the first two seasons, trust me, you don’t need to. This is the season you need to watch. Pacing, dialog, direction, chemistry, mysteries, twists, guest stars, and – yay! – creepiness all come into their own this new season, and it’s a great summer watch.
Presuming you have watched the two hour premiere, prepare yourself for what’s to come by watching this “Unanswered Questions” featurette with the executive producers (and learn how to spell the alien race names!), and the Wil Wheaton-hosted “2nd Watch” webisode discussion with cast members Noah Wyle, Drew Roy, Jessy Schram, Doug Jones, and Maxim Knight:

Review Ron Hogan 11 Jun 2013 - 07:50
Action, engaging plot developments, Doug Jones... What more could you want from a summer sci-fi series? Here's Ron's Falling Skies review...
This review contains spoilers.
One of the show's earliest threads is the spectre of mistrust that exists between the rank-and-file of humanity and their alien benefactors the Volm. The expression too good to be true comes to mind. It reminds me a bit of the rebel skitter storyline from the last season, except it seems to be a little bit better in its execution. After all, the Volm are highly armed and working on a secret project that until now only Tom knew about. The very same Tom Mason who tries to get his soldiers not to kill harnessed kids who are actively trying to kill them. Tom's a good person who generally believes that the revolution against the skitter »

Review Ron Hogan 11 Jun 2013 - 07:45
Falling Skies' season three premiere has just the right blend of Spielberg schmaltz and sci-fi horror. Here's Ron's review...
This review contains spoilers.
3.1 On Thin Ice
Falling Skies has done a good job of solving the issue of child actors ageing, and it's actually a pretty easy one. Rather than taking the traditional tack of most shows and picking up where we left off last year, Falling Skies has decided to jump ahead in the timeline and give the viewers a chance to get caught up to speed in the early episodes of the season usually by running two episodes on premiere night. It's a mixed bag. On one hand, you get to have pleasant surprises like Tom's appointment as the President of the United States. On the other hand, we missed the integration of an entire new race of aliens into the »

The TNT drama series Falling Skies has returned for its third season, as the epic battle between humans and aliens continues. Seven months have passed since viewers last saw the survivors of the 2nd Mass, led by Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), and now that they’ve teamed up with Volm and a band of rebel Skitters, the human race looks like it might just have some hope. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the show also stars Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Sarah Carter, Colin Cunningham and Seychelle Gabriel, along with Doug Jones, Gloria Reuben and Robert Sean Leonard. While at the show’s press day, showrunner/executive producer/writer Remi Aubuchon spoke to Collider at both a roundtable and a 1-on-1 interview about how challenging it is to top their previous seasons, what the new faces bring to Season 3, deciding how much mythology to reveal each season, »

It’s a sunny late September day on the Vancouver set of alien invasion series Falling Skies, and director Greg Beeman is wishing there were more wind.
The cast and crew of the TNT sci-fi show are working on a long tracking shot of the Falling Skies heroes cleaning up after a battle in their home base of Charleston, where an American flag, for now, hangs limp on a pole in the center of town.
“I want that American flag to furl,” Beeman says. “Is it ‘furl’ or ‘unfurl’?” A crew member sitting next to him in video village assures »

When you're an outnumbered and outgunned ragtag army taking on a vastly superior invading force, it helps to have powerful friends.
That was the situation facing the American rebels battling the British during the Revolutionary War, when the French arrived to help save the day. And that's also the situation of the beleaguered humans fighting the alien Overlords and their Skitter minions for the right to live on planet Earth in the TNT drama "Falling Skies."
Returning Sunday (June 9) for its third season, "Falling Skies" stars Noah Wyle as Tom Mason, a widowed father and former history professor who finds himself having to put the lessons of the Founding Fathers into action as leader of the fighting 2nd Massachusetts Militia Regiment.
When we last left Tom, the elder two (Drew Roy, Connor Jessup) of his three sons had fallen under alien influence to varying degrees, youngest son Matt (Maxim Knight) was growing up fast, »

When we return to the world of Falling Skies for season 3 on TNT tonight, seven months will have passed since we last saw the 2nd Mass - and much has changed.
Tom (Noah Wyle) is President of Charleston, Ann (Moon Bloodgood) is about to have their baby, Hal (Drew Roy) is paralyzed and everyone is wondering if the new alien allies (led by Cochise, played by Doug Jones) can be trusted.
That’s the just the start of this exciting two-hour season premiere, so I grabbed some time with show runner Rémi Aubuchon to find what we can expect with the popular sci-fi drama over the next couple months. Read on for excerpts from our exclusive Q&A...

Humanity’s clash with some out-of-this-world enemies continues this Sunday at 9/8c, when TNTs Falling Skies launches its third season. With the action picking up seven months later, we learn that Tom Mason (played by Noah Wyle) now carries a loftier title than “Professor”; the ETs that met in the finale appear to be more friend than foe; and the creepy cliffhanger involving Hal has had surprising repercussions. (Oh, and Anne is in for a mother of a surprise!) Showrunner Remi Aubuchon previews the series’ return.

We know that not everyone loves Kickstarter. I don’t even know if I love Kickstarter. I know that I do like the idea of filmmakers getting financing from the fans and giving back something in return as well as a general sense of community. One of the highlight films of last year was Absentia, which Michael & I talked about on the podcast last year. That film not only starred Doug Jones but was also birthed from Kickstarter as well.
The filmmakers that brought you a brilliant short film called Drained are back to gain funding for a short film called The Vistant starring Doug Jones and Amy Smart. It’s the story of a mother (Played by Amy) who has to protect her small children from a demon inside her house. And the demon (played by Doug) will be designed by Creature creator Steve Wang (The Predator, Evil Dead »

Today’s brand new Falling Skies promo is not for the faint of heart nor weak of stomach. In all honesty, it’s pretty gross. Still, the video advertising the science fiction series’ upcoming 3rd season is designed to prove to fans whether or not they would be up to the task of joining the resistance. It’s a test. I only looked away once, so I guess that gives me a 95% chance of survival. I’ll take those odds.
If you pass the test, join in on season 3 of Falling Skies, premiering June 9 at 9 p.m. on TNT. When the show returns, seven months have passed since we last witnessed the survivors in Charleston facing the new alien, who by the way, will be acted by Doug Jones. Also Moon Bloodgood’s Anne is pregnant with hero Tom’s child and about ready to pop. Noah Wyle is Tom. »

Per Deadline, the deal for the film was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman, Director of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films, with Nate Bolotin of Xyz Films on behalf of the filmmakers. Celluloid Dreams is currently selling the film’s international rights at Cannes.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “Josh Waller has crafted the most intense and unique action film that we have seen in a long time. With the magnificent Zoe Bell leading a strong female cast, Raze delivers and then some. We can’t wait to unleash it upon audiences.”

"And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy." ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The Great Gatsby"
Greetings from the apocalypse! This is an exciting week for me, since I'm making my art gallery debut and all — I'm celebrating with two docs covering cool artistic subcultures (gig posters and tattooing), as well as a hella ton of Mother's Day recommends. Glam filmmaker Baz Luhrmann's reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald's timeless Jazz-age romance "The Great Gatsby" looks like my 11th grade book report had sex with a disco ball, but that's par for the course. Luhrmann had previously razzle-dazzled "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" and reunites with Leonardo DiCaprio as enigmatic rich dude Jay Gatsby, clinging to the memory of a past dalliance with Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). You know that feeling where as soon as something ends, you want to watch it again with friends and family just to share it around? Or you envy others just because you wish you had a fresh mind to experience this special something again for the first time?
Well, John Dies at the End is that special something and if you’re anything like me and enjoy bizarre sci-fi horror-comedy, then you are going to absolutely love the heck out of this film.
John Dies at the End is based on the comic-horror novel by David Wong (a pseudonym for writer Jason Pargin) but I had not even heard of the novel so I had gone into this crazy and unfamiliar world absolutely blind.
Upon reflection, that is the best way to go into this flick, so I won’t bother to even try »
