Wallace Langham Cast as Arthur Schlesinger in Rob Reiner’s ‘Lbj’

Wallace Langham has joined the cast of Rob Reiner’s drama “Lbj” as Arthur Schlesinger, special assistant to President John F. Kennedy and adversary to Lyndon B. Johnson, Variety has learned exclusively.

Lbj” has begun filming in New Orleans. The film, directed by Reiner from Joey Hartstone’s script, stars Woody Harrelson and follows Johnson’s political career from his days as Senate majority leader to his ascendancy to the presidency in the wake of Kennedy’s assassination, culminating in his decision not to seek re-election in 1968.

The cast includes Jeffrey Donovan as John F. Kennedy, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson, Michael Stahl-David as Bobby Kennedy, Richard Jenkins as Richard Russell, Bill Pullman as Ralph Yarborough and Kim Allen as Jackie Kennedy.

Schlesinger wrote “A Thousand Days: John F. Kennedy in the White House,” which won the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography. He actively supported the presidential »

Earlier this month we got a look at Bryan Cranston as Lyndon B. Johnson in HBO Films’ All the Way [see here], and now we have our first look at Woody Harrelson as the 36th President of the United States in director Rob Reiner’s upcoming biopic Lbj

On November 22, 1963, one president’s life was taken and a new leader emerged — Lyndon Johnson. Rob Reiner’s film Lbj tells the story of a politician who was at risk of fading into irrelevancy but, upon Kennedy’s death, seized his moment to rescue a nation and claim his place as one of America’s most important presidents. The film offers an intimate look at Johnson’s masterful political maneuvering and handling of the presidential powers during one of the most difficult weeks in this country’s history.

Sirens” star Michael Mosley has joined Rob Reiner’s “Lbj,” portraying key political operative Kenny O’Donnell opposite Woody Harrelson’s Lyndon B. Johnson, Variety has learned exclusively.

O’Donnell was a close friend and adviser of President John F. Kennedy as part of his “Irish Mafia.” After Kennedy’s assassination, he served as Johnson’s aide from 1963 to 1965 and was campaign manager for Robert Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign.

The cast includes Jeffrey Donovan as John F. Kennedy, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson, Michael Stahl-David as Bobby Kennedy, Richard Jenkins as Richard Russell, Bill Pullman as Ralph Yarborough and Kim Allen as Jackie Kennedy.

Reiner will direct from a script by Joey Hartstone, which follows Johnson’s ascension from the poor hill country of West Texas to the corridors of power in Washington. Filming is slated to begin in late September in New Orleans, Dallas and Washington, D. »

Jeffrey Donovan will portray President John F. Kennedy opposite Woody Harrelson’s Lyndon Baines Johnson in Rob Reiner’s movie “LBJ.”

The cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson, Michael Stahl-David as Bobby Kennedy, Richard Jenkins as Richard Russell, Bill Pullman as Ralph Yarborough and Kim Allen as Jackie Kennedy.

Filming is slated to begin in late September in New Orleans, Dallas and Washington, D.C.

Donovan’s credits include “Burn Notice”, “Hitch”, “Changeling” and the upcoming “Sicario.” Johnson was John F. Kennedy’s running mate in the 1960 election and his 1963 assassination marked the beginning of a turbulent decade in American history.

Former "Burn Notice" star Jeffrey Donovan will portray President John F. Kennedy alongside Woody Harrelson's Lyndon Baines Johnson in Rob Reiner's upcoming "Lbj" film.

Joey Hartstone's script follows Johnson's ascension from the poor hill country of West Texas to the corridors of power in Washington. Johnson was JFK's running mate in the 1960 election and his 1963 assassination led to Johnson ascending to the role of President.

Jennifer Jason Leigh has signed on to portray Lady Bird Johnson opposite Woody Harrelson in Rob Reiner’s “LBJ.”

She joins a cast that includes Michael Stahl-David as Bobby Kennedy, Richard Jenkins as Richard Russell, Bill Pullman as Ralph Yarborough and Kim Allen as Jackie Kennedy.

Reiner will direct from a script by Joey Hartstone, which follows Lyndon Baines Johnson’s ascension from the poor hill country of West Texas to the corridors of power in Washington. He was thrust into the presidency by the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy and signed civil rights legislation banning racial discrimination in public facilities, the workplace and housing.

Lady Bird Johnson was born as Claudia Alta Taylor and married Lyndon B. Johnson in 1934. She took an expanded role in the 1960 campaign due to Jackie Kennedy’s pregnancy and was by his side in Dallas in 1963 when he was sworn in.

On Wednesday HBO announced that Marvel's Falcon Anthony Mackie would play Martin Luther King Jr. to Bryan Cranston's Lyndon B. Johnson in its adaptation of the Robert Schenkann play All the Way, which won best play from the Tonys, along with a win for Cranston. But every Johnson needs a Lady Bird, and the woman who will play the Southern aristocrat (née Claudia Alta Taylor) is none other than Oscar winner Melissa Leo.
