Walt Disney Pictures 2009 Preview

17 December 2008 12:40 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Walt Disney Pictures is the latest studio to drop off some new images and information regarding their 2009 slate of films and fortunately for me they have supplied very little in way of pictures, which makes my job much easier, however for you it means you aren't going to get as many goodies such as no images from G-Force, nothing new for Up and not even a preview image for A Christmas Carol. From what I can tell the most exciting thing is a scruffy pic of Bruse Willis in Surrogates, but how about you be the judge? Over the next three pages are all 14 of Disney's upcoming flicks with cast, director, synopsis and picture gallery links where they apply. Remember, the links open in a new browser window so just close the new window to return to this article and continue the preview. Enjoy! Confessions Of A Shopaholic Feb. 13, 2009 Photo: »

Check This Out: Disney's Race to Witch Mountain Poster

15 December 2008 2:10 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

You've already seen the trailer, now check out the poster. Disney has unveiled the official poster for Race to Witch Mountain starring Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, and Carla Gugino. This poster doesn't actually look that bad, and it reminds me a lot of the epic posters for kids movies of the past, the kind that were actually good. Nowadays, barely any of them turn out that great. While I wasn't particularly fascinated by the trailer, I'm still hoping that Race to Witch Mountain is at least thoroughly entertaining for all ages in the end. And by the looks of the this poster alone, that's exactly what we'll be getting next March. Race to Witch Mountain is directed by Andy Fickman, of the Disney hits She's the Man and The Game Plan previously. The screenplay was co-written by both Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) and Matt Lopez (Bedtime Stories »

'Twilight' sequel release is set

15 December 2008 12:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

November is for vampires.

That seems to be the thinking at Summit Entertainment, which Monday slotted the film "New Moon" -- the sequel to vampire romance "Twilight" -- for Friday, Nov. 20. "Twilight" opened with a huge $69.6 million in domestic boxoffice in the Nov. 21 frame this year, and distributors tend to return to the scene of such happy events with future franchise installments.

"Same time, same place," Summit distribution boss Richie Fay said. "If it's also the same gross, we'll be very pleased. Hopefully, we'll have even better results."

Execs at Summit -- which announced plans for a sequel on just the second day of release for "Twilight" -- just confirmed that Chris Weitz ("The Golden Compass") will direct "New Moon." The minimajor recently parted ways on the project with Catherine Hardwicke, who helmed the original.

Both vampire pics are based on books in the teen literary series by Stephenie Meyer. »

'Shazam!' Moves from New Line to Warner Bros.

24 November 2008 8:41 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Warner Bros. has signaled its intent to corral all their DC heroes in one place but internally shifting Shazam! from their New Line division to Warner proper. The news came when the studio announced that Peter Segal has been given a three year first-look deal according to Variety.

The director and producer Michael Ewing formed Callahan Film works to produce projects together after first meeting on the set of Naked Gun 33 1/3. The deal now has the duo prepping not only Shazam, still to be written by John August, but also a sequel to Get Smart and Liam McBain: International Tennis Star and Proper English Geezer. The latter is an original story that “follows the rise, fall and ultimate redemption of a fictional British tennis star of the 80s.”

August last wrote in the late winter that he was finishing a draft of the delayed Shazam! film but nothing has been stated about the project since. »

Race To Witch Mountain Trailer

His Rockness is back, and this time it’s alien. Yes, our favourite ex-wrestler, Dwayne Johnson, is starring in Disney’s kid-friendly sci-fi remake romp, and you can see the first trailer for Race To Witch Mountain here. The story sees Johnson play a Las Vegas cab driver who gets more than he bargained for when he picks up kids Tia (AnnaSophia Robb) and Tony (Alexander Ludwig) – and learns that they’re aliens. Enlisting the help of a UFO expert (Carla Gugino) he tries to get the pair back to their ship in Witch Mountain, only to run into an obstacle in the shape of Ciaran Hinds’ sneering bad guy Burke.  To complicate matters further, an interplanetary invasion threatens if the kids can’t get back to their ship, and an alien bounty hunter is also after the young pair. Thank goodness they’ve got El Rockerino on their side. »

Seth Gordon committed to 'Suicide'

17 November 2008 6:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Four Christmases in one day could lead anyone to suicide.

And so it is with Seth Gordon, who has become attached to direct "Suicide Squad" for Working Title Films and Universal. A documentary filmmaker ("The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters"), Gordon has his fictional feature directorial debut, New Line's "Four Christmases," due Nov. 26.

Wma-repped brothers Matt Eddy and Billy Eddy have written the most recent draft of Chris Johnson's original "Suicide" script, which follows a desperate con man, out on the latest of many paroles, as he recruits a crew of amateur criminals to rip off the Kentucky Derby.

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce for Working Title. The U.K. production company has a production deal at Universal and recently produced "Definitely, Maybe" and the forthcoming "Frost/Nixon."

The Eddy brothers also have "Time Out" set at Paramount Vantage and "Other People's Wishes" with producer »

More Sci-Fi - Disney's Race to Witch Mountain Trailer

17 November 2008 2:07 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Today is just chock full of sci-fi left and right, except this is the least exciting debut. In addition to the Star Trek trailer and Moon photos, we've also got the first full official trailer for Race to Witch Mountain staring Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, and Alexander Ludwig. This is a modern day remake of Disney's 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain about a cab driver who is hired to protect two siblings with paranormal powers from the clutches of an organization that wants to use the kids for their nefarious plans. The one thing I'll say - this is definitely not what you'll be expecting. It looks like a big budget sci-fi remake, but doesn't actually look that good. It may be fun in the end, but that's about it. Take a look for yourself. Watch the first trailer for Race to Witch Mountain: [flv:http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/race-to-witch-mountain-trailer1.flv http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/race-to-witch-mountain-trailer1.jpg 598 254] You can also watch »
