‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ Dominates Social Media Buzz Ahead of Opening
With its Jan. 26 opening looming, Fox’s “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” topped social media buzz last week with 72,000 new conversations, according to media-measurement firm comScore and its PreAct service.

The traction took place with the first film reviews published as the action thriller opened in markets overseas, starting with South Korea, Australia and Taiwan taking in $15 million during its first weekend. The movie’s original release date was delayed for nearly a year in order to allow star Dylan O’Brien to recover from injuries sustained during shooting.

Fifty Shades Freed” drew 57,000 new conversations, three weeks ahead of its opening. Universal’s film, based on the final installment of E.L. James’ erotic trilogy, should dominate its North American opening weekend on Feb. 9-11 with about $37 million, early tracking showed.

Razzies 2018: Full list of nominatons for the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards

With the Oscar nominations set to be announced tomorrow, the Golden Raspberry Awards has unveiled the contenders for the 2018 Razzies – celebrating the very worst in cinematic ‘achievement’ over the past twelve months.

Leading the way with nine nods is Transformers: The Last Knight (a.k.a. Transformers Xvii: The Last Knight), with the film set to contest Worst Picture with Baywatch, The Emoji Movie, Fifty Shades Darker and The Mummy. The Fifty Shades sequel also features heavily, with nods in eight categories including Worst Actor (Jamie Dornan) and Worst Actress (Dakota Johnson).

Transformers and The Mummy Lead 2018 Razzie Nominations

As per tradition, the Golden Raspberry Foundation unveiled the nominees for the 2018 Razzie Awards today, just a day before the Oscar nominations are unveiled. Leading the pack with a whopping nine nominees this year is Paramount's critical and commercial disaster Transformers: The Last Knight, which landed a whopping nine nominations, after setting franchise low marks at the box office during its run. There are a few more contenders nipping at its heels though, with Universal's The Mummy scoring eight nominations and Fifty Shades Darker landing seven nominations.

Baywatch,” “The Emoji Movie,” “Fifty Shades Darker,” “The Mummy,” and “Transformers: The Last Knight” have been nominated as “worst picture” for the 38th annual Golden Raspberry Awards.

The nominees for the mock awards show were unveiled on Monday, a day before the Academy Awards nominations, with a video called “how to protect humanity from toxic waste.” Winners will be announced on March 3, the day before the Oscars ceremony.

“Welcome to the 38th Razzie Nominees,” the announcement said. “Simply defined, Razzie hazardous waste is material with properties that make it dangerous or capable of having a harmful effect on human health or the environment.”

The fifth “Transformers” movie, called “Transformers Xvii: The Last Knight” in the announcement, led the pack with seven noms, including worst picture, worst actor for Mark Wahlberg, worst supporting actor for Josh Duhamel, worst supporting Actress for Laura Haddock, and worst director for Michael Bay.

Some of Hollywood’s top-ranked stars made this year’s list, with Jennifer Lawrence, Mark Wahlberg and Tom Cruise nabbing nominations for worst actress and actor, respectively.

Transformers: The Last Knight led the less than desirable pack with a total of nine nominations, while the love-to-hate steamy romance Fifty Shades Darker followed close behind with eight.

Universal’s “Fifty Shades Freed” should dominate its North American opening weekend on Feb. 9-11 with about $37 million, early tracking showed Thursday.

Sony’s family comedy “Peter Rabbit” is tracking for a launch that weekend in the $18 million range and Warner Bros.’ Clint Eastwood thriller “15:17 to Paris” should arrive with about $10 million.

The projected “Fifty Shades Freed” launch isn’t as strong as its predecessors “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which opened with $85.2 million in 2015, and “Fifty Shades Darker,” which opened with $46.6 million on the same weekend last year. The two films, co-starring Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, have combined to gross $950 million worldwide.
