21 July 2017 1:44 PM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

Earlier this week, a Trailer hit the web for auteur Guillermo del Toro’s next film, the unique looking The Shape of Water. The filmmaker is one of the more singular storytellers in the business, never taking an obvious route. This hybrid creature feature/love story is unlike anything else out there in the winter months. What that means? Who knows? For now, it will hope to be an awards vehicle while also attempting to make some money. You’ll be able to see the Trailer later on in this piece, but first, we’ll be diving in to talk about just what this thing might be. The movie is a fantasy, mixing science fiction and romantic drama. The description for this one is that it’s an other-worldly fairy tale, set in 1963 against the backdrop of the Cold War in America. Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is a woman trapped in »

Author: Zehra Phelan

The trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s quirky romantic fantasy drama, The Shape of Water has arrived with Sally Hawkins taking centre stage portraying her affection for a sea creature.

Set in the backdrop of the Cold War in 1963, Hawkins plays Elisa, a mute janitor working in a government laboratory who sparks up a heroic friendship which a fish like man herself and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover in a secret lab on the grounds of the facility.

Until that is, Michael Shannon’s unpleasant evil scientist Strickland has other plans for the creature as he plans to kill the being to find out what it is and how it works.

Hawkins, who shines in a quirky role, plays a timid sweet woman, similar to her upcoming role in Maudie –  Starting out the trailer in a groundhog day state, the trailer plays out in the same way »

The trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s next film, which is set for a December release, The Shape of Water, which looks remarkably like a cross between Hellboy’s Abe Sapien and The Creature From the Black Lagoon (a film incidentally del Toro expressed an interest in remaking). The film stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer, Nick Searcy and Doug Jones.

From master storyteller, Guillermo del Toro, comes The Shape of Water – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963. The Snowman and The Shape of Water both get new trailers in today's roundupThe Snowman and The Shape of Water both get new trailers in today's roundupAmanda Wood7/19/2017 3:33:00 Pm

Today was a great day for cool movies that we almost forgot existed. Luckily, The Snowman and The Shape of Water both released trailers today that quickly reminded us both of their existence and how excited we are for their releases.

The Snowman comes from Tomas Alfredson, who brought us such high-intensity gems as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Let the Right One In. It stars the always-excellent Michael Fassbender as a detective searching for an elusive serial killer who finds gruesomely creative ways to use the winter landscape as a tableau in which to display his victims. Rebecca Ferguson, Jk Simmons, Chloe Sevigny, and Val Kilmer round out the cast. Catch The Snowman in Cineplex theatres October 20th. »

First Full Trailer for Guillermo del Toro's New Film 'The Shape of Water'

"This creature is intelligent... capable of understanding emotions." Fox Searchlight has revealed the first official trailer for Guillermo del Toro's new film, titled The Shape of Water. This fairy tale romance set in the 1960s at a secret government laboratory stars Sally Hawkins as a lonely, mute woman who discovers a classified "experiment" and falls in love with him. Doug Jones co-stars as the creature, which makes me think you could almost call this a Hellboy prequel about Abe Sapien specifically. It kind of has that vibe. The excellent cast includes Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Lauren Lee Smith, and John Kapelos. This looks really wonderful - it has that iconic Guillermo del Toro design to it, along with a nice mix of feelings ranging from mystery to romance to drama. I'm sold already. Coming Distractions: Wade into the first trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape Of Water

Although Guillermo Del Toro recently revealed that the real reason for his Pacific Rim 2 departure was the rather prosaic “scheduling issues,” the film he made in the interim is anything but. Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for The Shape Of Water, an otherworldly romance directed and co-written by Del Toro. The film stars Sally Hawkins as Elisa, a lonely, mute woman who’s on the cleaning staff at a covert government facility run by Michael Shannon’s Strickland. Elisa’s daily routine, which the trailer perfectly captures in all its humdrum detail, and her life are upended when she connects with the aquatic creature (Del Toro repertory player Doug Jones) being studied at the lab. Their unexpected romance goes over poorly, even with Elisa’s otherwise supportive neighbor (Richard Jenkins), and it’s not long before Strickland wants to gut the poor creature.

Sally Hawkins is at the center of the otherworldly first trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Shape of Water,” portraying a lonely janitor at a government laboratory who befriends an aquatic man in a tank played by Doug Jones.

Set in 1963, the trailer portrays Hawkins’ Elisa as a mute woman — trapped in a life of silence and isolation — whose  life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (played by Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.

“If I told you about her — the princess without a voice — what would I say?” a narrator asks at the beginning of the trailer.

“When he looks at me, he doesn’t know how I am incomplete,” Hawkins says through sign language, translated by Richard Jenkins’ character. “He sees me as I am.”

Michael Shannon portrays a scientists studying Jones’ character who declares, “We need to take it apart and learn how it works.”

Today brings about our first look at Guillermo del Toro's latest, which sees him return to the creature feature, but with a decided twist.  It's not set up to be a horror movie, but more of a fantastical love story...

I'm really digging this trailer and the Creature From the Black Lagoon vibes it's giving off.  While there are some horror elements, to be sure, the fantasy part is really hooking me in there.  Throw in some Cold War aesthetics with a great cast, and I'm officially hooked.  Definitely eager to see more of this one.
