A personal tragedy can affect someone in unforeseen ways.

Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) got new proof in "Knockout Game," Friday's (March 14) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods" written by co-executive producer Brian Burns and directed by Robert Harmon, who also worked with series star Tom Selleck on most of the "Jesse Stone" TV movies.

The story opened with expectant parents Mike and Stephanie Rose (guest stars Josh Segarra and Rose Hemingway) taking an evening stroll and discussing possible names for their child. Suddenly, a gang of youths came rushing up behind them and one punched Stephanie in the face, felling her. A panicked Mike cradled her and screamed for help.

Frank (Selleck) already had concerns about the so-called "knockout game" being practiced randomly throughout the city's boroughs. As he struggled to determine factors linking the attacks, he ordered the NYPD to reach out to informants for any potentially useful information.

'Blue Bloods' Season 4, episode 14: Erin kidnapped in Donnie Wahlberg-directed 'Manhattan Queens'

Someone who certainly knows the turf called the shots on the latest "Blue Bloods."

Series co-star Donnie Wahlberg made his directing debut on the CBS police drama with Friday's (Jan. 31) episode, "Manhattan Queens." He also continued to have a major presence in his weekly role as Detective Danny Reagan, who began the hour hiking through woods with partner Maria (Marisa Ramirez) to the location of a decomposing body.

Maria noted the expensive dress on the victim, who also sported a wig Danny referenced ... prompting him to reason the cops were onto "a story with an unhappy ending."

As Nicky (Sami Gayle) left for school, Erin (Bridget Moynahan) walked part of the way with her, dressed for a morning run. After the mother and daughter separated, Erin noticed a van seemed to be following her. She turned into an alley, and as she looked back at the vehicle, a blanket was »

'Blue Bloods' Season 4, episode 13: Two cases involve 'Unfinished Business'

Past events can fuel present problems, as the Reagans' latest cases taught them anew.

Written by co-executive producer Siobhan Byrne O'Connor, Friday's (Jan. 17) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods," "Unfinished Business," set Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria (Marisa Ramirez) on the trail of Army veteran John Russelll (guest star Chad Michael Collins), who had assaulted his wife, Maryann (guest star Kelli Barrett), and taken their son Tommy (guest star Michael Capperella) from his school.

The Army, as represented by Maj. Harrison (guest star Terry Serpico), wasn't happy that Danny had started an investigation without clearing it with him first. A struggle over jurisdiction began, with Marine veteran Danny noting, "I understand protocol. I just don't like following it."

During a press conference on a weapons-selling bust, Frank (Tom Selleck) was confronted by Betty Lowe (guest star Karen Allen), who asked him "why I can't get justice for my daughter. And her killer is out there, »

'Blue Bloods' Season 4, episode 12: The Reagans chase a deadly drug called 'The Bogeyman'

10 January 2014 8:15 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Most of the Reagans are in the family business, but that normally doesn't include one of the youngest.

Nicky (Sami Gayle) found herself in the thick of a police case in Friday's (Jan. 10) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods," "The Bogeyman." Attending a teen party, she responded to cries for help as most others evacuated the place, and found a passed-out girl as a couple of stragglers tried to conceal remaining drugs.

To no avail, Nicky warned them the drugs should be left as police evidence, then she grabbed a stray packet of the stuff and called 911 -- identifying herself only as "Jane Doe."

Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Frank (Tom Selleck) also were concerned with drugs, specfiically a new and lethal type. Jailed informant Carmen (guest star Sasha Allen) told Danny of a narcotic rumored to be "pure heaven, for users of that kind of poison," while Frank worried about a »
