From Belle Starr to Calamity Jane, women rarely wield a gun with gusto in the wild west. Will Hollywood ever do justice to female sharp-shooters?
Jane Got a Gun is set somewhere in New Mexico Territory in 1871. Natalie Portman’s grievously wounded husband makes it back to their homestead and warns her there’s a posse of villains on his heels. The posse takes ages to get there, though, so she has time to park her small daughter with a neighbour, then go and ask her resentful ex-boyfriend (Joel Edgerton) for help, and take shooting lessons in preparation for the showdown. Edgerton has never forgiven her for having ditched him while he was in the army, but since he lives about 10 minutes away, it’s a wonder that it’s only now, after seven years, that she lets him know what really went down while he was away. And it...

Exclusive: ‘Gettysburg’ Director Ronald Maxwell Updates on ‘The Last Full Measure’ and ‘Belle Starr’
It’s been a decade since Civil War drama “Gods and Generals” was in the theaters. And that sequel followed the 1993 Civil War epic “Gettysburg.”
Will “The Last Full Measure” finally make it to the big screen after a long wait?
According to “Gettysburg” and “Gods & Generals” director Ronald F. Maxwell, Civil War fans may have to wait a little longer.
In an exclusive phone interview with Latino-Review, Maxwell carefully updated the status of adapting Jeffrey Shaara’s book about the Civil War after Gettysburg. He was promoting an indie Civil War film “Copperhead,” which is in select theaters later this week.
“I would love to do the third part of the trilogy. It’s a big movie like the other two, which is an epic genre,” he told Latino-Review. “The epic part is the time to tell the story. And it’s because it has to cover the [battles of] the...

Howdy fans of HBO’s recent series “Deadwood” and the Coen brothers’ True Grit! Look out! Galloping down the Blu Ray trail is the 1980 epic “oater” The Long Riders. It tells the story of several of the great outlaw gangs. You may have seen other films concerning the exploits of these desperados. Well this version is worth a look for two reasons. It’s directed by one of the great action film makers to come out of the 1980′s-Walter Hill ( The Warriors, 48 Hours ). The other reason, and the film’s big marketing point, is the casting of the brothers with real life siblings-David, Keith, and Robert Carradine play the Younger brothers, Randy and Dennis Quaid are the Miller brothers, Nicholas and Christoper Guest are the Ford brothers, and James and Stacy Keach are the James brothers. This might seem like gimmick or “stunt” casting, but the family resemblances and dynamics enhance the story.

The Long Riders, the outstanding 1980 Western film by Walter Hill (The Warriors) that details the final days of the notorious Jesse James gang, comes to Blu-ray disc on June 7 courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
The Jesse James gang makes their getaway in The Long Riders.
We’re always excited when a vintage Walter Hill action movie comes to Blu-ray, as it gives his always gorgeous mise-en-scène and cinematography (in this case, by 48 Hrs.’s Ric Waite) a chance to shine.
The nifty gimmick behind The Long Riders is in the casting of four set of real-life brothers in the roles of the sibling members of the James-Younger bank-robbing gang: There’s Stacy and James Keach (Waiting for Forever) as Frank and Jesse James; Robert, Keith and David Carradine (Dark Fields) as Bob, Jim and Cole Younger; Randy and Dennis Quaid (Pandorum) as Clell and Ed Miller; and Nicholas...

Fans everywhere mourn the loss of Jane Russell, who passed away today at the age of 89. Ms. Russell, famous for her roles in the 1940's and 1950's in classics such as The Outlaw (1941) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), was discovered by Howard Hughes at the age of 19.
Russell's first film, Hughes' The Outlaw, took years to achieve a wide release. It was filmed in 1941 and took ages to get past the censors, due mostly to the manner in which Jane Russell was filmed. With FIlmChat in 2009, when asked about how this affected her, as a young girl, a new actress, and a devout Christian, Ms. Russell said that, "It was a big fuss! But it was all about some cleavage. Today they are doing cleavage in the back!" She also said that the early controversy got her accustomed to being assertive with the press.

I'm really into the history old school gangsters during the 1920's and 1930's. Unfortunately I thought Michael Mann dropped the ball on Public Enemy, the story of John Diliger. That movie should have been a lot better. Now it looks like another popular 1920's robber is getting a big screen treatment... Pretty Boy Floyed.
It's being reported that Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) has signed on to direct the film from a script written by Kevin Bernhardt.
Charles Arthur Floyd a.k.a. Pretty Boy committed numerous robberies and other crimes around Kansas City and the Midwest in the late ’20s and ’30s. During his spree he obtaining the nickname “The Robin Hood of the Cookson Hills” He died in 1934 at age 30.
Kramer had this to say regaurding the film,

Under the spotlight after breaking what's turned into quite the affair scandal for Jesse James, Michelle "Bombshell" McGee has another batch of photo shoot pics hitting the Internet.
Taken during a session in Las Vegas in October 2009, the tattoo model proudly showed off her ink while clad in a skimpy black Motorhead tank top and leopard print leggings.
Meanwhile, Miss McGee angrily took to her social networking sites to shoot back at all of the inbound criticism, writing, "For all you internet warriors on here talking s--t...it's easy to place judgment when you're sitting behind a keyboard."
She continues, "Get off your God d**n high horse, your s**t don't smell like roses either. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone...in other words F**K You."...
