Madison Gate Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, are releasing American Hustle – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, a collection of music from the critically-acclaimed box office hit with ten Oscar-nominations, in a two 12″ LP gatefold blue and red colored 150 gram vinyl edition featuring six songs from the movie not included on the CD version.

The 12” Vinyl will be available exclusively at independent retailers, as part of Record Store Day’s annual Black Friday event on November 28, 2014.

When most film fanatics think of their favorite films' technical aspects, they think visually: compositions, montage, special effects, and so on. But sound is just as integral to the makeup of a film's environment as images, and the Tribeca Film Festival's recent panel on sound design and music helped illustrate that. Moderated by Glenn Kiser, the director of the Dolby Institute, "Dolby Institute: The Art of Sound Design & Music" took a look at some of the more notable moments in the careers of sound technician Skip Lievsay, a frequent Coen Brothers collaborator who recently won an Oscar for his work on Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity," and music supervisor Susan Jacobs, known for her work with David O. ‘American Hustle,’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ Nab Wins at Music Supervisors Awards

American Hustle,” “Inside Llewyn Davis” and “The Place Beyond the Pines” claimed the top film kudos Wednesday night at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards.

Warner Bros. got the nod for best studio music department on the film side while ABC Entertainment/Disney Channel won for smallscreen.

American Hustle’s” wall-to-wall soundtrack of mostly 1970s tunes, supervised by Sue Jacobs (pictured), won for pic budgeted at more than $35 million. The reconfigured traditional folk assembled by T Bone Burnett for “Inside Llewyn Davis” won for pic budgeted under $35 million. Gabe Hilfer’s  mashup of ’80s and contemporary artists for “Place Beyond the Pines” won for pic budgeted under $10 million.

Guild of Music Supervisors Announces Noms for Fourth Annual Event

It’s clear from the nominations for its fourth annual awards event, the Guild of Music Supervisors is leaving no stone unturned, having added yet another category (documentaries), for a total of 14, up from four in its first year. As many as 77 nominees will vie for honors — with four classifications in the feature film realm alone: indie pics under $10 million; studio fare under and over $35 million; and the best studio music department.

Some of the more familiar names in the discipline, not recognized by the Academy, are there: T-Bone Burnett (“Inside Llewyn Davis”), Randall Poster (“Wolf of Wall Street”), Susan Jacobs (“American Hustle”), Alex Patsavas (“Warm Bodies”) and Anton Monsted (“The Great Gatsby”).

Then there’s the not so familiar, such as Brian Reitzell (“The Bling Ring”), George Drakoulias (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”), Gabe Hilfer and Season Kent (“The Spectacular Now”).

‘Game of Thrones’ Rules Golden Reel Awards TV Nominations

Game of Thrones” still reigns supreme with the Motion Picture Sound Editors.

The HBO fantasy drama received the most nominations from the Mpse for its upcoming 61st annual Golden Reel Awards. While “Thrones” leads with three, “Boardwalk Empire,” “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead” and “Sons of Anarchy” trail closely behind with two noms each. The Golden Reel Awards take place on Feb. 16 at Los Angeles’ Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites.

Although Mpse announced its film nominations (which included “Gravity,” “12 Years a Slave” and “Captain Phillips”) on Wednesday, it released the TV, computer entertainment, direct-to-video, special venue and student categories on Friday.
