Glenne Headly Remembered: ‘She Was a Total Perfectionist’

Glenne Headly Remembered: ‘She Was a Total Perfectionist’
Glenne Headly was a very serious actress with a gift for comedy. That’s how Anna D. Shapiro, artistic director of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Co., remembered the theater’s longtime ensemble member, who died Friday at the age of 62.

“Glenne was a very, very serious actor and one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever worked with,” Shapiro told Variety. “She was a total perfectionist and she was obsessed with the science of acting comedy…She would focus on what it was that made something true, and by that uncovering why it was funny.”

Headly joined the famed Chicago theater company in 1979, five years after it was founded by Gary Sinise, Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry. Even after Headly moved to the West Coast to work in movies and TV, she maintained a regular presence in Steppenwolf productions through 2005. She won Chicago’s local Joseph Jefferson Awards for her

The Best One-Season Wonder TV Shows That Never Got Renewed — IndieWire Critics Survey

The Best One-Season Wonder TV Shows That Never Got Renewed — IndieWire Critics Survey
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: What is the best one-and-done show, a.k.a. a One-Season Wonder? (This refers to shows that only got one season and tragically did not get renewed, as opposed to limited series that never intended to continue.)

Allison Keene (@KeeneTV), Collider

There are so many! But for me the best will always be “Freaks and Geeks.” It’s a show that I watched at an age before I really understood the whole TV renewal/cancellation process, but even then I knew it was unjustly short. The show was such a great blend of smarts, snark, and genuine emotions, in a way that could actually be painful to watch.

Devious Maids Canceled at Lifetime!!

  • TVfanatic
Those maids are going to have to find their sexy time on their own time.

They certainly aren't going to be doing it for our eyes.

Lifetime has chosen to close the door on Devious Maids after Season 4. There will be no Season 5.

Devious Maids was somewhat of a spinoff of Desperate Housewives after came to an end, and seemed to carry the soapy torch for its first three seasons.

Devious Maids Season 4, however, has been met with some criticism.

Apparently that criticism wasn't for nothing, as the ratings, while consistent for the season, remained steady at 0.923 million viewers (L+Sd).

That's after toppling from Devious Maids Season 1 high of 3 million viewers. Talk about a bleed!

Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sánchez, Judy Reyes, Susan Lucci, Rebecca Wisocky, Tom Irwin and Grant Show starred on the series for all four seasons.

The vehicle has also given Susan Lucci a place

The Cast of ‘My So-Called Life’: Where Are They Now?

In 1994, a show about a teenage girl came into our lives and changed them forever. While it was just as swiftly taken from us, My So-Called Life left an impact on television and on its viewers. Spoiler: one of them is now a royal!

Remembering Superman Reeve Ten Years After His Death

Christopher Reeve: 'Superman' and his movies (photo: Christopher Reeve in 'Superman' 1978) Christopher Reeve, Superman in four movies from 1978 to 1987, died ten years ago today. In 1995, while taking part in a cross-country horse race in Culpeper, Virginia, Reeve was thrown off his horse, hitting his head on the top rail of a jump; the near-fatal accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. He ultimately succumbed to heart failure at age 52 on October 10, 2004. Long before he was cast as Superman aka Clark Kent, the Manhattan-born (as Christopher D'Olier Reeve on September 25, 1952), Cornell University and Juillard School for Drama alumnus was an ambitious young actor whose theatrical apprenticeship included, while still a teenager, some time as an observer at London's Old Vic and Paris' Comédie Française. At age 23, he landed his first Broadway role in a production of Enid Bagnold's A Matter of Gravity, starring Katharine Hepburn.

Devious Maids: Season Three Renewal for Lifetime Series

The second season of Devious Maids concluded in late July and averaged 1.81 million viewers each week. That was down by 29% compared to the first season. It's still the cable channel's highest-rated scripted series. The Lottery draws about half that size audience and it looks likely to be

'Devious Maids' Renewed For Third Season By Lifetime

Lifetime has renewed its popular primetime soap opera Devious Maids for a third season that will air on the network in 2014.

'Devious Maids' Renewed

Devious Maids, created by Marc Cherry, will have a third, 13-episode season, reported The Hollywood Reporter. Cherry will be continuing in his role as Devious Maids’ showrunner and will co-executive produce alongside Ric Scwartzlander and Brian Tanen.

"We are thrilled to be bringing Devious Maids back for another season,” said Lifetime’s executive VP and Gm Rob Sharenow. “Marc Cherry has created a uniquely twisted world that blends his comic wit with devilishly ingenious characters and plot twists.”

Devious Maids’ sophomore season, which wrapped up two months ago, averaged 1.8 million viewers per week. While the viewership was down from the show’s first season, it was enough to keep its status as the No. 1 basic cable program airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m. among women.

Revisiting My So-Called Life’s pilot

Twenty years after it first aired in the Us, we celebrate My So-Called Life’s brilliantly written, strongly cast pilot…

From its opening shot, My So-Called Life announces itself as distinct from its glossy Us teen TV peers. Filmed on location using natural lighting and a hand-held camera, the pre-credits sequence is a world away from candy-coloured sets and Malibu beaches. We see two teenage girls messing around on a street, hanging off one another and periodically breaking into fits of laughter. The girls speak directly to camera, addressing an unseen passer-by with a string of goofy tall stories.

One of the actresses - Claire Danes - breaks the chief rule of playing a teenager on American TV by actually being one. The other - A.J Langer - isn’t long out of her teens. With a face free of make-up and as-yet undyed mousy blonde hair, Danes is and looks fifteen,

Twenty years has passed since we were first introduced to the characters of My So-Called Life, twenty years! Where has the time gone? And more importantly when did I get so old?

While most of you won’t really care too much what I’ve been up to since the show finished, let’s take a look at what the actors have been up to in the years since the cancellation of what is frankly the greatest teen TV drama ever.

Claire Danes (Angela Chase)

After breaking out in My So-Called Life, Danes focused on her film career first with a leading role in 1995’s Little Women and then supporting roles in smaller but interesting films like Home For The Holidays, How to Make An American Quilt and
