Entertainment One has acquired domestic distribution rights to “Watermark,” a documentary about humanity’s influence on the world’s most vital resource. eOne will release the film in theaters next year. Environmental photographer Edward Burtynsky and filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal co-directed the film, which premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Baichwal has made seven films, including “Manufactured Landscapes,” a documentary about Burtynsky. Sixth Wave Productions Inc.’ Nicholas de Pencier produced the film while Daniel Iron executive produced with Baichwal and Burtynsky. Following their triumph with Manufactured Landscapes, photographer Burtynsky and filmmaker Baichwal reunite on Sixth Wave Productions’ Watermark to explore the ways in which humanity has shaped, manipulated and depleted water.
Baichwal directs and Burtynsky serves as executive producer alongside Daniel Iron. Sixth Wave’s Nicholas de Pencier serves as a producer on the film while Daniel Iron also serves as an executive producer.

Lawrence Hill’s best-selling 2007 novel is getting the longform TV treatment, with Conquering Lion Pictures, Out Of Africa Entertainment and Entertainment One prepping the story as a miniseries. Production on The Book Of Negroes — which was published in some territories including the U.S. as Someone Knows My Name — will begin in the fall on the project written Clement Virgo and Hill. It will air stateside on Bet and on CBC in Canada. The story centers on Aminata Diallo, who is taken by slave traders from West Africa to South Carolina. It follows her through the American Revolution in New York, the isolated refuge of Nova Scotia and the jungles of Sierra Leone, before she ultimately secures her freedom in England in the early 1800s.
