Selton Mello, one of Brazil’s most marketable talents both behind and in front of the camera, is making his U.S. directorial debut with the upcoming musically charged drama “Cathedral City.”

Mello made his name on screen in Brazil in films like “Lisbela and the Prisoner” and “To the Left of the Father,” and then moved into writing, directing and producing his own projects. His second directorial feature, “The Clown,” Brazil’s Oscar submission, earned one of highest grosses for an art film in recent years in Brazil. His third directorial outing, the well-reviewed “The Movie of My Life,” starred “Black Swan’s” Vincent Cassel.

Stana Katic’s Castle follow-up has finally found a U.S. home.

Amazon has acquired the rights to Absentia, the streamer announced on Wednesday. The 10-episode thriller is slated to premiere sometime in 2018, with all 10 episodes being released at once.

In addition, Amazon will also stream the series for Australia, Austria, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey and the U.K.

Absentia has been available to more than 15 other countries, Spain and Russia included, since as long ago as Sept. 25.

New Coen Brothers Anthology Series Headed To Netflix

(Aotn) Best known for their work in the realm of film, brothers Ethan and Joel Coen are well on their way to further making their mark in the TV realm as well! It has just been revealed that Netflix has acquired the rights to the Coen Brothers Western anthology series “The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs”. This will mark the Coen Brothers first work as writers and directors for television, although they do have executive producer credits.

Netflix Lands The Coen Bros. Western Anthology Series The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs

As a fan of the Coen Brothers, I've been incredibly excited about this new western anthology series that they've been developing called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. I'm excited to report that the series has landed on Netflix, which seems like the perfect place for it.

The series will include feature six separate tales that take place in the American frontier. Each chapter will feature a distinct story about the American West. So far the project will star Tim Blake Nelson as Buster and James Franco.

The Coen Bros. has this to say in a statement:

The Coen brothers’ secretive new project “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” has landed at Netflix in a major win for the streaming giant. The Western anthology was first announced at the beginning of 2017, with Annapurna Pictures producing through their new television banner and planning a “hybrid TV/theatrical” release. While it’s unclear how the film will be released in theaters, Netflix has confirmed all six parts of the anthology will premiere sometime in 2018.

Tim Blake Nelson and James Franco To Join The Coen Bros. The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs

Looks like the Coen Bros. have started casting their upcoming anthology western series. I assumed they would get some big name actors involved with the project and it seems as though they have. It was previously revealed that the series would comprise of six segments and each one would focus on a different character.

According to the Tracking Board, Tim Blake Nelson (Hulk, O Brother, Where Art Thou) is in talks to take on the lead role in the first segment, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. James Franco is also set to star in one of the other segments called Near Algodones. This is the first time Franco will have worked with the Coen Bros. Those two actors will be joined by Zoe Kazan, Tyne Daly, Stephen Root and Ralph Ineson.
