Time to check in again to The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Fox Searchlight Pictures invites you back to Jaipur, India with this new teaser for the film, opening in theaters March 6, 2015.

The sequel sees the return of Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith. Fans of Smith can expect to see the 2-time Oscar winning actress on the big and little screen this autumn and I suspect during the upcoming Awards Season.  She’s nominated again with an Emmy for Supporting Actress (Drama) for “Downton Abbey” and her work on the upcoming film My Old Lady, alongside Kevin Kline and Kristin Scott Thomas, is without a doubt Smith’s finest work in years and definitely worth some Oscar attention.

'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' Trailer

7 August 2014 11:31 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Not all sequels have to be about horror movie monsters and superheroes. Sometimes, even a hotel that caters to senior citizens gets a second chance on the big screen. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a follow-up to 2012's The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which finds Sonny (Dev Patel) attempting to franchise out his hotel, which caters to the 'elderly and beautiful'. The original location only has one remaining vacancy, which causes a problem for new tenants played by Tamsin Greig and Richard Gere, neither of whom are old enough to be staying here, though maybe a little too beautiful. Check it out as Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench also return for another stay at the Best Exotic Marigold.

One of the delights of 2012 was the superb old-folk-on-holiday comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The film did wonders at the international box-office, setting it alight with $136 million dollars in worldwide takings – that’s from a budget of just $10 million. Scratch your head, do the maths and you’ll agree that a sequel would be a bloody good idea. All of the pensioners from the first film are back in the sequel, (bar Tom Wilkinson), as well as Dev Patel and two newcomers in David Straithern and one Richard Gere.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is set to hit cinemas in the spring of next year.

I never saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel back in 2011, but those that saw it seemed to think it was pleasing enough and I'm sure Fox Searchlight didn't mind the fact it brought in $136.8 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Trailer Features Returning Cast and Richard Gere

7 August 2014 10:16 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 is now titled The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which is an interesting titling scheme.  I know a new hotel is opened in the film, but I also wonder if the title is a bit of meta-commentary on the nature of sequels and that one should temper their expectations lest they assume this installment matches the majesty of the first.  I haven’t seen the first film, so I’m not qualified to say. The sequel was directed by John Madden and written by Ol Parker.  It stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, David Strathairn and Richard Gere.  Hit the jump for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel trailer!  The film hits theaters on March 6th, 2015. Love Paunch: Hopkins’ Latest a Predictable Bore

Though its cast members seem to game for a good, silly romp, Joel Hopkins’ latest film, The Love Punch, sadly, is not such a treat. Reuniting with star Emma Thompson from his last outing, 2008’s Last Chance Harvey, this discordant rom-com caper has all the charm of a lobotomized poodle; fluffy and without all the necessary faculties to function. To use the phrase ‘by-the-numbers’ would be a generous euphemism for when their charm can’t seem to pick up the slack, the addlepated antics being performed by such talented performers is often off-putting. It’s a film of the ilk that people make comments such as, “Oh wasn’t it great to see so and so in a lead performance?”
