Today the nominations for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was released. The King’s Speech and The Fighter received the most nominations, with four each. Thankfully the Guild seems to know what they are doing unlike The Golden Globes who pretty much screwed up all the nominations.
The nominees here are usually a very strong indication of how the acting award nominees will play out at the Oscars. King’s Speech has long been an Oscar favourite, but David O. Russell’s The Fighter has gained considerable steam in the past few weeks. Last year, 19 out of 20 SAG nominees went to the Oscars as well so you can be sure that The Fighter and King’s Speech will get a best picture nomination. The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on January 20th. See the complete list below.

But, the film's lead star, Mark Wahlberg, was not nominated.

The Screen Acors Guild has released their award nominations for their upcoming 17th annual award ceremony, which will take place on January 30, 2011.
There are some great nominations here. My favorite picks include Christian Bale for his role in The Fighter, Natalie Portman in her role in Black Swan, and Jesse Eisenberg for his role in The Social Network. As much as I love most of these films, I'm surprised that Inception is no where to be seen. That was one of the best films of the year and it seems to be escaping a lot of the nominations in all the award ceremonies this year.

Okay, totally kidding about the Colfer Lifetime Achievement Award thing - that will be going to Ernest Borgnine. But does it seem to you that the kid who plays Kurt Hummel is getting an awful lot of awards season love? (And wouldn't McHale's Navy have been so much better with him in it?)
The latest outpouring of Colfer acclaim comes from the Screen Actors Guild who announced their 17th annual SAG nominees this morning.
The Glee cast is up for a comedy ensemble award, but Colfer was the only cast member other than Jane Lynch to be recognized individually. And given who he's up against he's almost certain to be the frontrunner!
Another bit of good news for a Glbt favorite, The Kids Are All Right, scored individual acting nods for Annete Bening, Mark Rufallo, and also a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.

The complete list of nominations for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards follows below. The ceremony will be held on January 30th, 2011.
Nothing really to highlight here, unfortunately. SAG voters apparently didn’t care for Halle Berry’s performance as much as the Golden Globes did, because she’s not on this list. And neither is Idris Elba, who was also nominated for a Golden Globe. The cast of For Colored Girls got no love either.
The significance here is that SAG nominees and winners are voted on by members of the union – essentially, their peers.
But one thing that should be obvious by now is that the Oscar race is going to come down to 4 films and the performances in those films: The Social Network, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, and The Fighter. I still have to see the last 2.

Modern Family's co-creator Steven Levitan has praised the young stars who work on the show. The show's cast includes Rico Rodriguez, Sarah Hyland, Nolan Gould and Ariel Winter, who play the children and teenagers in the family. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Levitan admitted that he was wary about working with young people at first. "Even at the thought of doing a family show, there's an initial instinct to (more) »

The term “family comedy” does not usually bring to mind laughs that are sharp or surprising. Corny-syrupy is more like it. But in 2010, Modern Family proved that you can’t always judge a series by its genre, as the show took home the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy, among other accolades. Of course, as we toast Modern’s impressive collection of comedic talent (Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson), it’s easy to overlook an important part of the show — the part that’s not legally old enough to toast yet. That »

"Modern Family" is taking it to the bedroom in 2011.
"This week we're taping an episode where the kids walk in on us while we're having sex," he tells Zap2it. "It's a full 22-minute sex scene. Actually, it's sitcom sex, definitely appropriate."
We didn't really expect ABC to go too racy with their Emmy-winning show with "family" in the title, but we do expect the subject to turn to the birds and the bees.
"There's a difficult chat with the kids," Burrell confirms. "Phil comes through with shining colors as usual."
The mid-season finale of Modern Family will be airing on December 8, and then the show will be on a short hiatus until January 5. Below are three sneak peeks and a synopsis from ABC.
The School Dance Brings On More Anxiety For The Parents Than For The Kids, On ABC's "Modern Family"
"Dance Dance Revelation" - It's Luke & Manny's first school dance and everyone gets in on the "fun" -- Jay and Phil have to take the boys on a mall run which becomes quite stressful; and Claire revels in the school dance committee duties, but gets a little jealous when Gloria shows up to help. Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam are horrified to learn that Lily is biting other kids on the playground, on "Modern Family," Wednesday, December 8 (9:00-9:31 p.m., Et), on the ABC Television Network.
Kiiss FM's Jingle Ball concert go-ers got to unwrap their very own present a few days early on Sunday, Dec. 5: Katy Perry. The singer was just one of the many performers (B.o.B., Hayley Williams, Selena Gomez to name a few) at the event, but Perry brought the holiday spirit with her as fake snow came down on the stage that was filled with snowmen, presents and elves. Celebrities like "Glee's" new fan favorite Darren Criss, Victoria Justice, Joel McHale and more came out to enjoy the concert.
Katy Perry looked sleek and glamorous on the red carpet prior to performing.
Perry pulled off the snowman look remarkably well on stage. Bonus points for the adorable top hat.
Selena Gomez rocked out in white pants and a lace corset.
Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams performed "Airplanes" with B.o.B.
Darren Criss looked dapper and festive in a red bow tie and oxfords. »
As the actress who portrays Haley Dunphy, Hyland is part of an extraordinary cast, especially when one considers how often the show features its young stars in various storylines. Below, she gives TV Fanatic the exclusive lowdown on various co-stars and storylines ahead...
Is it hard to keep a straight face on set?
Sometimes. It really depends on what’s going on. Halloween was probably the hardest time I’ve had keeping a straight face. Just the fact that Ed looked like a gargoyle, the mask that he had on was hilarious. Sophia’s American accent, just the combination of everything that day made it very hard. I’m pretty good at keeping one; I’m usually one the last to break. I usually only break because other people have.

One of the rare success stories from last year's fall season, the ABC comedy "Modern Family" manages to both revisit and revitalize the family sitcom. The program focuses on the adventures of three related but different families: Jay (Ed O'Neill) and his much younger, Colombian wife (Sofia Vergara) and stepson Manny (Rico Rodriguez); Jay's daughter, Claire (Julie Bowen), her bumbling husband, Phil (Ty Burrell), and their three children (Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, and Nolan Gould); and Claire's brother Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), who recently adopted a child with his flamboyant partner, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet). Created by Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd ("Back to You," "Just Shoot Me!"), the show earned six Emmy Awards this year, including statues for show, writing, and supporting actor (Stonestreet). The cast received a 2010 SAG Award nomination for outstanding ensemble, and it's impossible to imagine it won't repeat the feat for 2011. Back Stage: How did your »
Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Broadway production "Next to Normal" has taken its show on the road and Zap2it had the distinct privilege of attending the national tour's opening night (Sunday, Nov. 28) at Downtown Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theater.
The evening's list of attendees was a who's who of stage, screen and TV favorites including Pierce Brosnan (seated directly in row in front of us), "Glee's" Teenage Dream Darren Criss and Jenna Ushkowitz, Seth Cohen -- er -- Adam Brody ("The Oc"), adorable Amanda Seyfried of "Mean Girls" fame (yes, and "Dear John", "Mamma Mia" etc. etc., but she'll always affectionately be Karen with the "fifth sense" to us), Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sarah Hyland of "Modern Family," Greg Berlanti (creator of "Brothers & Sisters"), Camryn Manheim ("The Practice"), Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Chad Lowe, Peter MacNicol ("Grey's Anatomy," "Ally McBeal") and "Next to Normal's" Tom Kitt (music »
A new episode of Modern Family will be airing this week on November 24 and we'll be meeting Cameron's mother. Below are three sneak peeks from ABC.
"Mother Tucker" - Cameron loves his mom, so Mitchell isn't quite sure how to tell Cam that she makes him a little uncomfortable. Meanwhile, when Haley finally breaks up with Dylan, Phil takes it harder than anyone else, and Jay's little stomach ache gets exacerbated when he and Manny start looking things up on a medical website, on "Modern Family," Wednesday, November 24 (9:00-9:31 p.m., Et), on the ABC Television Network.
I know — it’s difficult to imagine another Buffy. In fact, you might feel as though you’d like to send the just-announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot back to the kitchen and have Joss Whedon cook you up something snarky and delicious instead. But the truth is that Joss isn’t involved, PopWatchers. Now, I know that might make you all stabby, and at the risk of being the object of your wrath, I have to share with you a secret: I want this movie to succeed. Nay, I need it to succeed.
You see, I — like many of »

A new episode of Modern Family will be airing tonight on ABC. This episode will focus on Manny's birthday party. Modern Family delivered another strong episode this week. The episode starts off at the Dunphy household. Claire (Julie Bowen) comes down with a cold and Phil (Ty Burrell) is able to stay home to take care of her. Work is slow for Phil and we learn throughout the episode that he is really worried about his job as all his appointments were cancelled that day. Haley (Sarah Hyland) comes home sick from school and her and Claire end up in bed watching soap operas. Claire uses this opportunity to try to talk Haley out of dating her doofus boyfriend using the soap opera characters as a metaphor. Haley misunderstands and believes Claire is talking about herself and »
