The Doctor! Guillermo del Toro! Vampire pilot for FX! Who Wouldn’T be all over this story? We’ve actually already told you a little about the del Toro vampire pilot The Strain, based on the trilogy of books he co-authored with Chuck Hogan (Prince of Thieves). If picked up, the showrunner would be our beloved Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel).

So, as the headline blares, the newest cast member is (one of) the Doctor(s). This particular Doctor is the newest to us, though I suspect he’s one of the oldest. It’s John Hurt, reuniting with his Hellboy director del Toro. Hurt’s castmates in include Corey Stoll (The Bourne Legacy, Midnight in Paris), Mia Maestro (Nadia in Alias) and Kevin Durand (Keamy in Lost). Veteran actor John Hurt is re-teaming with visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and this time the match up has Hurt working for the small screen. We have the latest on FX’s daring new pilot, The Strain.

FX has cast the two-time Academy Award®-nominated actor John Hurt in The Strain. If you like your vampires scary, then you’re going to want to follow the TV project as it develops. The new pilot is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy from Academy Award®-Winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan.

As we previously reported, the official announcement from FX regarding Hurt, follows word that House of Cards actor Corey Stoll and Breaking Dawn vampire actress Mia Maestro will lead the cast. Kevin Durand, Richard Sammel, Lauren Lee Smith, Jonathan Hyde and Miguel Gomez have also been cast.

FX's adaptation of horror novel The Strain just gained some mega star quality as Oscar nominee John Hurt has been tapped as the co-lead opposite Corey Stoll and Mia Maestro in the network's high-profile drama pilot.

Guillermo del Toro will direct "The Strain" pilot from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, who also co-authored the books with him. Carlton Cuse ("Lost," "Bates Motel"), who helped develop the adaptation, executive produces alongside del Toro and will serve as showrunner, overseeing the potential series with del Toro. Hogan and del Toro’s longtime manager/producing partner Gary Ungar also serve as exec producers of the project, produced by FX Prods. I love it when a plan comes together. One day after casting  Mia Maestro as the lead for an intense little FX network pilot called The Strain, now the masters behind the vampire thriller, Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse, select two more actors, choosing Titanic‘s Jonathan Hyde and Inglourious BasterdsRichard Sammel.

Who is who? Well, Hyde, who acted the part of Ismay in James Cameron’s massive and enduring blockbuster, Titanic, has been cast in the series regular role of Eldritch Palmer. Casting Update for Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain TV Series

One of the many projects Guillermo del Toro has moving forward is a TV version of The Strain, based on the trilogy of vampire novels he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. FX has ordered a pilot episode and we have news of three more additions to the cast.

As previously reported, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) has been cast in the lead role, and Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution) will also be joining him. Stoll will be playing Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City, while Durand is taking on the part of “a second-generation Ukranian-American, a once-solitary rat exterminator who eagerly joins the war against vampires who have invaded New York.”

Two more names have signed on to appear in the upcoming FX adaptation of the Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan vampire opus The Strain. Read on for the details surrounding the latest additions, who happen to know a few things about changing the course of history.

Mia Maestro Joins Evita, "The Strain"

"Alias" and "The Twilight Saga" star Mia Maestro is keeping busy with two new projects in the works.

First up, she'll join Gael Garcia Bernal in Argentine filmmaker Pablo Aguero's untitled period piece about the aftermath of Eva Peron's death. Shooting gets underway early in 2014.

The story will track the fate of her embalmed corpse, unburied for 25 years, against the backdrop of that bloody period in the nation's history.

Maestro would play Peron, while Bernal would play naval officer Emilio Eduardo Massera. Massera was a key member of the Argentinian junta that followed her and was responsible for thousands of disappearances during the 1970s and 1980s.

Jonathan Hyde and Richard Sammel have joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro's The Strain.  The former has appeared in films like The Mummy and Anaconda.  Sammel, meanwhile, was spotted taking a baseball bat to the side of his head in Inglourious Basterds.
