Pvt. Danny Chen’s Life and Death Being Turned Into an Opera

3 October 2013 9:22 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Justin Lin: ‘Furious’ Filmmaker Finds Even Better Luck Tomorrow

1 May 2013 7:45 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Fresh-faced and attired in a Nike golf shirt, he politely excuses the acrid aroma of fermented soybeans emanating from the take-out container on his lap.

When he first embarked on the “Fast & Furious” franchise, there were days when Lin had trouble getting past the »

15 April 2013 8:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

This year’s CinemaCon Talent honorees represent a veritable overview of the year’s most anticipated films.

Top thesp honors go to Melissa McCarthy (Female Star of the Year) and Chris Pine (Male Star of the Year). While she stars in “The Heat,” he headlines not one but two tentpoles, “Jack Ryan” and “Star Trek: Into Darkness.”

The two franchises couldn’t be more different, and that goes for Ryan and Kirk, too. As Pine says, “Captain Kirk is very impassioned and blood-lusty and goes from his gut and uses his fists and is obviously everything that Spock is not. Ryan, on the other hand, is a bit more like Spock. He’s a man of reason and logic and comfortable spending time in his own head rather than the real world. It’s that disparity that made it fun to jump from the one who’s of the »

In a rare treat for Off Broadway audiences, the incomparable Vanessa Redgrave is playing a Polish septuagenarian opposite Jesse Eisenberg in Eisenberg’s own play The Revisionist. But The Revisionist isn’t the only starry premiere on the boards this week; here’s a roundup of notable openings (click links for the full review).

The Revisionist Vanessa Redgrave displays “a well-wrought accent and hard-earned professional brio” in Jesse Eisenberg’s new drama about a young »
