Anybody with the most basic understanding of film editing will tell you there are many words to describe different kinds of techniques. Montage. Juxtaposition. Fade. Dissolve. Wipe. Jump cut. Shot reverse shot. Fast cutting. Slow cutting. Cross cutting. The list goes on.

The renowned editor Jill Bilcock infused the director Baz Luhrmann’s first three films – Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge (aka the red curtain trilogy) – with a famously frenetic, flashy, in-your-face style. The term she and the glitzy auteur coined to describe their approach is unlikely to be added to textbooks any time soon: they call it “frame fucking”.

Documentary on Late Inxs Frontman Michael Hutchence to Feature Unreleased Songs, Remembrance by Bono

A new documentary called “Michael Hutchence: The Last Rockstar” promises to “make headlines all around the world,” producer Mark Llewellyn told Australia’s The Daily Telegraph over the weekend. The beloved Inxs singer died in Nov. 1997 by suicide. He was 37.

The film, directed by Richard Lowenstein, who shot several Inxs videos including “What You Need” and “Never Tear Us Apart,” is slated to air on Australia’s Channel Seven in honor of the 20th anniversary of Hutchence’s death, and will include previously “missing songs,” personal photos, home videos, and lyrics, according to the Sydney-based paper. A trailer for the film features U2 frontman Bono, who remembers Hutchence as “amazing and interesting and then tragic.”

Universal Music Group (Umg) is relaunching the Polygram Entertainment label as it looks to accelerate Umg’s film and television output.

Polygram will develop and produce feature films and television, including scripted and unscripted productions as well as financing premium documentaries.

The revived label will be based in Santa Monica and led by David Blackman, Umg’s head of film & television development and production.

Blackman reports to Umg executive vice president Michele Anthony and Universal Music Publishing Group chairman and CEO Jody Gerson.

Polygram’s inaugural production will be The Story of Motown, a documentary about the history and cultural impact of the iconic record label with the participation of Motown founder Berry Gordy.

The film, which will feature footage and recordings from Gordy’s personal archive, focuses on the period between Motown’s birth in Detroit in 1958 until its 1972 relocation to Los Angeles.

Universal Music Group Revives Polygram Label for Film and TV Production

Universal Music Group is reviving the Polygram Entertainment banner as the music giant seeks to expand its film and TV production activity.

Umg said Saturday that Polygram will be tasked with producing movies and TV programs and financing documentaries, with an emphasis on projects tied to artists connected to Umg labels. The first project from the imprint will be a documentary on Motown Records, one of the iconic music labels in the Umg vault. Also in the works is “Mystify,” a docu about the life of Michael Hutchence the late singer of Inxs.

David Blackman, who was recruited to head Umg’s newly formed film and TV unit in January, will oversee the Santa Monica-based Polygram operation, reporting to Umg exec VP Michele Anthony and Universal Music Publishing Group chairman-ceo Jody Gerson.
