Lu Hurley (Sherdon Hurley) originally as an ad salesman at KSRO in Santa Rosa, California and was the first broadcaster to report traffic from a helicopter, on KGO radio in San Francisco in the early '60s. From his "Hurleybird," he came up with shortcut names for areas he covered. According to KGO's Stan Burford, the bend in Highway 101, near Vermont Street and S.F. General, became known as "Hospital Curve," thanks to Hurley.
