Charlie Hunnam’s Title Swordsman Will Be “Rough Around The Edges” In King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

22 August 2016 12:37 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

King Arthur, the legendary British leader who reigned during the early 6th century, is a character so enduring and timeless that he’s been adapted for screen, theater and literature countless times over.

That means Arthur needs no introduction, but it also means that, for those creators out to engineer a fresh spin on the Excalibur-wielding hero, are left facing a difficult task. Trust Guy Ritchie, then, to have us cautiously optimistic ahead of the release of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Placing Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam in the lead role, Warner Bros.’ lavish reboot has been penciled in for release next March, and while speaking with Empire, the actor promised to introduce an Arthur who is “contemporary, selfish, [and] somewhat rough around the edges.”

Famed for his rat-a-tat editing and slick sense of cinematic style, Ritchie has proven his knack for modernizing legends in the past (read: »

Charlie Hunnam Says ‘King Arthur’ Is Like “Lord Of The Rings Meets Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels”

If there was an ugly duckling in Warner Bros. massive, relentless presentation at San Diego Comic Con this summer, it was easily “King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword.” Only star Charlie Hunnam was present to talk about the movie, with director Guy Ritchie noticeably absent. Newswire: Charlie Hunnam, Léa Seydoux to star in love story from Equals director

22 August 2016 11:23 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, apices of human attractiveness Charlie Hunnam (Sons Of Anarchy) and Léa Seydoux (The Lobster) might finally mate in a new film by Equals director Drake Doremus. There are no details about the currently untitled project other than that it’s a “unique love story,” though presumably not so unique that you can’t expect hot people to fall in love and get it on.

Coming off Equals, a sci-fi love story about humans trying to snuff out their emotions that The A.V. Club called “involving” but “dopey,” Doremus likely feels right at home depicting love and lust in future societies. Perhaps this time around, the population of Future Earth will be divided by hair color, with blond people forced into servitude and brunettes enjoying upper-class lifestyles. Hunnam and Seydoux could fall in love and plan a fair-haired revolution. Since Doremus tends to aim somewhere »

Drake Doremus Lines Up Another ‘Unique Love Story’ With Charlie Hunnam and Léa Seydoux

21 August 2016 12:04 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

With his sci-fi romance “Equals” still in theaters, writer/director Drake Doremus has already lined up his next project. Described as “a unique love story,” the untitled film will star Charlie Hunnam and Léa Seydoux. No plot details are being revealed at this time. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the story.

Rich Greenberg, best known for his theater and television work, is writing the screenplay. Prior to “Equals,” which stars Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart as two members of a future society in which all emotional displays are verboten (they fall in love, natch), Doremus came to attention for writing and directing “Breathe In” and “Like Crazy.”

Drake Doremus Plots Equals Follow-Up With Charlie Hunnam And Léa Seydoux

20 August 2016 11:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Director Drake Doremus is plotting his follow-up to Equals now that The Hollywood Reporter reveals Léa Seydoux and soon-to-be King Arthur Charlie Hunnam are boarding his as-yet-untitled project.

Billed as a “unique love story,” Scott Free Productions is on board to produce – extending its collaboration with the filmmaker following work on Equals – though plot details are practically non-existent at such an early stage. We understand that Rich Greenberg is the brain behind the script, though, and that Léa Seydoux and Charlie Hunnam are central to the goings-on of Doremus’ latest.

Granted, the director may have split audiences with the Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult sci-fi film Equals, but Like Crazy – which featured Felicity Jones and the late Anton Yelchin – displayed the director’s deft touch for all things romance, a knack he’ll no doubt call upon for this latest project.

Charlie Hunnam Can't Stop Showing Off His Pearly Whites After Visiting the Dentist

Charlie Hunnam was spotted leaving the dentist in Beverly Hills, CA, on Wednesday afternoon. The former Sons of Anarchy actor, who's been busy promoting King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, looked happier than most people do after having dental work done, flashing a slew of grins for photographers as he made his way back to his car. Charlie wore a white v-neck and jeans, and earlier this month, we saw him wearing a similar outfit while walking around the busy streets of La, just days after his sexy Comic-Con appearance. Nyff 2016: 5 Must-See Films, As Recommended By Festival Director Kent Jones

9 August 2016 2:45 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Every film playing in the 54th New York Film Festival this fall is a must-see in the eyes of Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones, but a handful of titles are particularly indispensable. During a presentation on Tuesday morning unveiling the 25 films that will make up Nyff’s Main Slate, Jones shared some insights into the festival’s selection process.

“We’re not interested in selecting a movie just because we can put stars on the carpet,” Jones said, adding that films thought to be award contenders also carry no additional weight with the festival’s selection committee. “If we started worrying about being viable for awards season, we’d be lost. We’d be throwing away our mission.”

How ‘Mr. Robot’ Star Rami Malek Used Anxiety to Carry His Breakthrough Emmys Drama

8 August 2016 3:17 PM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Rami Malek is in Emmy mode.

The “Mr. Robot” star just flew back to the States from London for a fitting with a stylist, an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and a visit to the Television Critics Association Awards (where his USA Network series was named best new series).

What’s more, he’s got a new movie to prep: Malek will play the Dustin Hoffman role in a reworking of John Frankenheimer’s 1974 prison-break classic, “Papillon.”

This actor doesn’t agree to do just anything – he sets sky-high standards for himself. That’s how Malek broke through the noise on Sam Esmail’s innovative paranoid psycho-thriller “Mr. Robot.” The drama seemed to come out of nowhere, but quickly collected so many nominations and awards (Golden Globes Best Drama Series, Peabody, Critics Choice, AFI Ten Best TV, Gotham Breakthrough) that six Emmy nominations seemed inevitable.

Mr. Robot star Rami Malek joins Charlie Hunnam in Papillon remake

5 August 2016 5:55 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It looks like director Michael Noer (Northwest) has secured its two leads for the upcoming Papillon remake, with Deadline reporting that Mr. Robot star Rami Malek is in talks to join Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) in the cast of the film.

Described as a “contemporary retelling” of Franklin J. Schaffner’s Oscar-nominated 1973 film, Papillon will see Malek in the Dustin Hoffman role of Louis Dega, while Hunnam will portray Henri Charriere, played by Steve McQueen in the original.

Based on the real-life memoirs of petty criminal Charriere, Papillon follows the relationship between the two felons as they hatch a plan to escape from a notorious French Guiana penal colony. The remake has been scripted by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), and is set to go into production next month.
