7 Predictions for “True Blood” Season 7

26 July 2013 12:04 PM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

HBO recently announced that its long-running vampire sex comedy True Blood will be back for a seventh season of Southern-fried, fang-bangin’, bloody-merkined fun. The show has taken some unexpected turns in the past few years (especially to people who have read the books), so it’s hard to predict what the hell Sookie, Billith, Eric, and the rest of the Bon Temps crew will be up to next year. Fortunately, we have degrees in Advanced Predictology and are expert at divining the future arcs of aggressively ridiculous episodic supernatural dramedies.

Here are our predictions…

1. Merlotte’s Will Be Home Base Once Again

At last week’s Comic-Con panel, new showrunner Brian “Bucky” Buckner (who stepped in to replace Mark Hudis, who replaced Alan Ball) indicated that he wasn’t happy with the show’s six-ways-’til-Sunday feel, and will be bringing things back to Ben Temps with fewer story threads: »

Comic-Con 2013: 'True Blood's' New Boss: 'I Think We've Screwed Ourselves'

20 July 2013 4:56 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

We thought it was huge when Alan Ball announced he's stepping down from the showrunner post at HBO's "True Blood." But, things got really interesting when his replacement Mark Hudis was replaced. Brian Buckner (fourth from right, above), a writer on the series since Season 1, assumed the position mid-season on Season 6. "It's  like being in a car crash," Buckner said during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con. "We had to shift on the fly. I never knew how hard Alan worked. The job doesn't stop. It just keeps going. »

HBO Sets True Blood’s Season 7 Future in Stone

16 July 2013 1:59 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

This past Monday brought splendid news for fans of HBO’s True Blood in the form of a renewal for a seventh season. The news that HBO wants more True Blood isn’t at all shocking – it is, after all, the premium cable channel’s third-most watched original scripted series after The Sopranos and Game of Thrones – so I don’t know if anyone should be terribly excited or not. It is absolutely good news for the fans, but if the show was never in any danger of being canceled, how do you react? With a semi-enthusiastic fist pump? Maybe a raising of glasses and a dull cheer? Yay?

True Blood may be nowhere near the point where HBO would consider cancelling it, but it’s not exactly gaining new viewers. The Season 6 premiere drew in 4.5 million viewers in total, which is down 700,000 from Season 5’s premiere. Some allowances must »

HBO renews 'True Blood' for Season 7

15 July 2013 10:54 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

"True Blood" has apparently successfully weathered its first season without Alan Ball and will be back for Season 7.   HBO announced on Monday (July 15) that it has renewed "True Blood," which will return for its seventh season in the summer of 2014.   Brian Buckner will remain as "True Blood" showrunner for the new episodes. Buckner, a longtime writer and producer on "True Blood," was a midseason replacement for Mark Hudis, who initially took over as showrunner after Alan Ball decided to leave that gig after five seasons.   "'True Blood' remains a signature show for HBO, and a »

True Blood, Season 6: Episode 3 – “You’re No Good”

Directed by Howard Deutch

Written by Mark Hudis

Airs Sunday nights at 9 on HBO

I think when I tried to maintain some level of optimism about True Blood last week, I was probably coming to the beginning of this season hoping it wouldn’t be any less a mess than the last couple years – to hope that it can become pure fun again is too much of a stretch at this point. It’s not like these first few episodes of season six are noticeably worse than the material from last season; but they’re still bad, and maybe that’s where I had my expectations mixed up: with a show that used to be fun and has descended into nonsense, it’s not okay just to want it to be less nonsensical. If the writing used to be fun, then »

Eric is threatening to rape Willa to death. He has her glamoured, and lowers his head to drink her dry. 'True Blood' season premiere recap: 'Who Are You, Really?'

15 June 2013 7:00 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

"True Blood" returns for its sixth season tonight, and as much as that's a cause for celebration there are still plenty of reasons to feel, at the very least, ill at ease. As everyone knows, creator Alan Ball has left the show (though he assures us it's in more than capable hands with replacement showrunner Mark Hudis). Cue ominous music here. Okay, maybe that's an overreaction, but when it comes to TV, change is always a little unnerving. Though the series is based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels, it's not hard to think Ball was instrumental in nailing down the show's tone, »

New True Blood TV Spot, Poster, and Press Release With June Episode Synopses

28 May 2013 4:00 PM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

I can just hear that twangy song playing right now in my head, can’t you? Yes, we’ll soon be losing the weekly replay of the epic theme song for Game of Thrones, in favor of the dulcet tones of Jace Everett singing “Bad Things”, when True Blood returns for Season Six on June 16.

To help get us ready (as if we weren’t), HBO has released a new TV spot containing mostly footage we’ve seen in the trailer but if I’m not mistaken, a few little snippets of new footage as well. There’s a new poster, and they’ve also issued a press release that gives a teeny bit of info about the season in general, followed by synopses of the June episodes.

The synopses are fairly spoilery, so if you love spoilers, dig in. If not, it’s pretty easy to see where they are without reading them, »

Truckload Of True Blood Season 6 Pics

Brace yourselves, True Blood fans, because we’re ready to deliver a whole truckload of new pics from True Blood‘s upcoming tumultuous season 6.

Interestingly enough, Bill is looking very clean in today’s photos, but none the less sinister. He may have been swimming in blood in our previous sneak peeks, but in today’s images, its Sookie and her compatriots who look like they’ve been to hell and back. Hey, at least they are still alive, right? That counts for something.

HBO’s 10-episode sixth season of True Blood begins Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c. Yes, very sadly, that’s two fewer episodes than fans are accustomed to having.

On the bright side, however, you can expect a big number of special guest stars this coming season. Veteran actor Rutger Hauer returns as Niall Brigant. He is in one of today’s photos. Anna Camp is Sarah Newlin, »

True Blood Season 6 – The War Between Humans and Vampires Has Started

6 May 2013 5:31 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

We have a new trailer for True Blood’s sixth season and I’m on the fence about it. True Blood has always been a bit of mixed bag for my taste. Every year, the trailers and promo posters get me excited that this season is going to be the one that reaches new heights of intensity, that we’ll get a full 12 episodes that work flawlessly together from premiere to finale. But every year I’m greatly disappointed in the final product. We get a decent start, followed by a dragging middle section. Usually by the end of the season, things have picked up again and we get one hell of a finale, but I’m the kind of person who expects the second act of a season to be just as good as the first and third.

This year has me feeling that familiar excitement at what is to come, »
