Peter Antico, a veteran stunt coordinator and actor, has announced his candidacy for the presidency of SAG-aftra.

Antico, who made the announcement on his Facebook page, has been a longtime critic of SAG-aftra’s elected leadership and its executive staff. He has credits on dozens of films, including “Pearl Harbor,” “Danny Collins,” “Daredevil,” “Training Day,” “Monster Trucks,” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”

SAG-aftra is run by actors who are not educated in corporate finance, nor governance,” he said. “We must restore ethics and sound business practices to SAG-aftra, through education, transparency, love and forgiveness. As the 89th Annual Academy Awards approached, it was already clear that this year's "In Memoriam" segment was going to be one of the most heartbreaking in recent memory. This was only further cemented by the untimely death of veteran actor Bill Paxton one day before the ceremony.

Jennifer Aniston came out to present the tribute to those in the movie industry we lost over last 12 months, and got emotional as she tearfully remembered Paxton, whom she called her "friend" and "cherished member of our Hollywood family."

Watch: Bill Paxton, Star of ‘Twister’ and HBO’s ‘Big Love,’ Dies at 61

Singer Sara Bareilles led the touching "In Memoriam" with a rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now." The powerful performance was a perfect tribute to their memories.

Oscars In Memoriam: Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Gene Wilder, Others Honored

26 February 2017 8:37 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Sara Bareilles helped the Academy pay tribute to lives lost this year during the Oscarcast’s In Memoriam segment. The “Waitress” songstress sang Judy Collins’ “Both Sides Now” while the annual video honored Carrie FisherDebbie ReynoldsJohn Hurt, Mary Tyler Moore, Anton Yelchin, Prince, Garry Marshall, Ken Howard, and more.

The cutoff for including deaths in the segment is usually around Jan. 31. Therefore, David Bowie was included in last year’s Oscar ceremony. Bill Paxton, who died Saturday, was remembered by an emotional Jennifer Aniston before she introduced the segment.

The segment saluted the more recognizable names and faces in addition to below-the-line creatives and executives. As in years past, the Academy asked attendees to hold their applause until the end to avoid favoritism and any disrespect toward the lesser-known honorees.

Beverly Hills, 90210 Star Gabrielle Carteris Ups the Nostalgia at SAG Awards 2017

29 January 2017 7:06 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Oh hi there, Andrea Zuckerman! The nostalgia was apparent at the 2017 SAG Awards, as it featured its usual In Memoriam segment to honor entertainers who passed away over the past year. But upping the nostalgia factor even more was the person who presented it: Gabrielle Carteris, best known for playing the nerdy student and journalist on Beverly Hills, 90210 in the '90s. But to scores of actors in Hollywood and beyond, the actress is known as president. Of their labor union, that is. Carteris, 56, had served as executive vice president of SAG-aftra since 2012 and was elected president after actor Ken Howard, the first leader of the merged union, died at age 71 in March »

On Eve of SAG Awards, President Gabrielle Carteris Talks State of the Union

24 January 2017 10:00 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Five years after SAG and AFTRA merged, performers are showing renewed fire. The union went on strike on Oct. 21 against 11 video-game companies, telling members that they could not perform voice work, and staged three raucous demonstrations in support of performance bonuses and improved safety. The pickets were the first that SAG had staged since the 2007-08 Writers Guild strike.

“We knew going in that this would be a long-term fight, which is why we spent nearly two years in negotiations trying to make a deal before resorting to a strike,” says Gabrielle Carteris, who replaced the late Ken Howard as president last March. “Production cycles in the videogame space are very long, which means it takes time for a strike to have an effect.” She adds,  “We are also very focused on working with videogame employers that are not struck to create contracts that make sense for them and for professional performers and that effort has already »
