Pig Review [SXSW 2017]

Every so often, a movie comes along that words cannot serviceably justify. When you’re a horror degenerate like myself, that “so often” timeframe is a little more frequent. Adam Mason’s Pig is one such title; a despicable, mean-spirited, tragically pointless torture bomb. So sickening that it’s been hidden since 2010 without release, minus a live world premiere on website Bloody Disgusting. Pig: The Final Screenings read new promotional materials, because it’s set to be destroyed after South by Southwest 2017. At least I can say “I’ve seen Pig!” when horror buffs discuss lost movies years from now? Whatever that’s worth.

Mason ties his camera to leading man/co-writer Andrew Howard, who stars as a backwoods lunatic with perverse day plans. On his trailer plot are four captives, all in different locations. When he returns from bashing one’s skull in (the film’s opening sequence

24: Legacy Season 1 Episode 5 Review – ‘4:00 Pm – 5:00 Pm’

Ricky Church reviews the fifth episode of 24: Legacy…

24: Legacy delivered its weakest and most disappointing episode yet in what felt like a whole lot of filler. ‘4:00 Pm – 5:00 Pm’ had the potential to be a really good episode, but instead it veered into predictability and murky character development. We’re almost halfway through the season and, yet, the story has not only stalled, but hasn’t improved in any major way.

Since this was Charlie Hofheimer’s final time starring Ben Grimes the episode spent a lot of time trying to develop sympathy for him, but the problem was its efforts weren’t nearly enough. Since the beginning, Grimes was presented as a rather one-dimensional character that was only defined by his paranoia. ‘2:00 Pm – 3:00 Pm’ attempted to build the relationship between Carter and Grimes more, but the intervening episodes didn’t build off that or

James Franco’s The Disaster Artist Will Stage World Premiere At SXSW 2017; Midnight Lineup Revealed

With little over a month to go until Austin plays host to SXSW 2017 for another year, organizers of the annual showcase have announced that James Franco’s drama The Disaster Artist has been added to the stacked lineup.

Based on Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s non-fiction book The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, Franco’s passion project is set to recount the infamous story behind The Room, Tommy Wiseau’s widely-derided pic that has since gone on to become something of a cult classic. No release date has been set, but we know that the feature will be written and directed by Franco, who stars as the eccentric Wiseau, and features a cast comprised of Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver, and former Community star Alison Brie. Bryan Cranston and Zach Braff are among those set to cameo.

True Memoirs Of An International Assassin Review

Wait – an original Netflix comedy that doesn’t star Adam Sandler? It’s real! True Memoirs Of An International Assassin only mines from Sandler’s comedian crew for lead actor Kevin James, with no cameos in sight. I mean, you try pitching a movie as “Spy, but starring a guy!” without James’ name immediately thrown into the mix. That’s what you’re getting here. A Venezuelan spy thriller about some random Joe obsessed with tactical espionage training, who finds out that being a secret agent is even harder than it looks. It’s a fish-out-of-water comedy with deadly consequences – and not a whole lot of substance.

James stars as Sam Larson, a hopeful writer whose first book – Memoirs Of An International Assassin – gets marketed as non-fiction by an ambitious publicist (played by Kelen Coleman). Book sales take off, which brings a lot of attention to Sam. He gets as

Movie Review – True Memoirs of an International Assassin (2016)

True Memoirs of an International Assassin, 2016.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow.

Starring Kevin James, Andy Garcia, Zulay Henao, Maurice Compte, Andrew Howard, Rob Riggle, Kelen Coleman, Leonard Earl Howze, Yul Vasquez and Kim Coates.

Synopsis:

After a publisher changes a writer’s debut novel about a deadly assassin from fiction to nonfiction, the author finds himself thrust into the world of his lead character, and must take on the role of his character for his own survival.

Going into this movie, I must admit, my expectations were measured. On the one hand, I was expecting it to be in a similar vein to other vehicles for Kevin James – something akin to Pixels, perhaps. Yet on the other hand, when doing a little research about the movie I found out that the script had been on the 2009 Black List (if you’re unfamiliar with the term, it’s an industry catalogue of

‘True Memoirs of An International Assassin’ Review: Kevin James’ Netflix Action-Comedy Is Just as Bad As Adam Sandler’s

‘True Memoirs of An International Assassin’ Review: Kevin James’ Netflix Action-Comedy Is Just as Bad As Adam Sandler’s
True Memoirs of an International Assassin” opens with an unusual degree of promise for a feature-length Netflix comedy, as trained killer Sam Larson (Kevin James!) infiltrates a dockside shipping yard in broad daylight and goes full “Metal Gear Solid” on a group of henchmen. And you know what? The Artist Formerly Known as The King of Queens pulls it off. Nobody is going to mistake James for Tony Jaa, but he clearly put some practice into becoming a remotely believable ass-kicker, and the violence is shot in such a distant and sterile way that the comedian’s movements look all the more striking. And then James gets shot in the chest with a rocket launcher and explodes in a plume of digital blood. The world, it turns out, is not ready for a relatively straight-faced action-comedy in which a heavyset white dude can play a lethal mercenary who struggles with his body image.
