Here's the 'Jack the Giant Killer' Trailer

25 December 2011 12:01 PM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Breaking news from the Better Late Than Never desk: Here's the trailer for Jack the Giant Killer, Bryan Singer's upcoming entry in Hollywood's ongoing fairy tale sweepstakes. I know. Finally.

This preview hit the Inwebternet a while back, but it got lost in the Planet Fury shuffle somehow. Also, you might've noticed we had server issues for a few days. Plus, we overslept. Then there was that pesky combination anthrax scare and bursitis attack. Did we mention our dog ate our homework? Oh, who are we kidding. Let's fall back on that old seasonal favorite — when in doubt, blame Christmas!

Anyway, I personally don't remember the Jack the Giant Killer story being quite this, umm, intense. But, hey, it is about a boy who is almost eaten by a cannibalistic colossus. Of course, he was kinda asking for it by breaking into the big guy's castle and stealing his golden goose and prize princess. »

Best/Worst Movie Promos of the Week: Only the Best for the Holidays from ‘Prometheus’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rise’

23 December 2011 | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, maybe not for our worst three movie promos of the week, but at least they still have time to kick things up a notch before their releases. However, even though there was an obvious bottom three this time around, the promotional material released this past week has generally been pretty solid. Of course the big news is the debut of the first trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and, even as someone who wasn’t exactly caught up in The Lord of the Rings craze, An Unexpected Journey is looking pretty good. In other big budget, CGI-to-the-max news, we also got the trailer for Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and the combination of a doe-eyed Nicholas Hoult plus some wicked flaming tree...

Top 10 films of 2011: X-Men: First Class

20 December 2011 6:30 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

We arrive at entry number four in our finest films of 2011 list, so here’s Mark to explain why X-Men: First Class deserves so much attention…

Over the past few weeks, Den Of Geek writers have been voting for the films of the year. It's a democratic vote, which inevitably means that things end up in a slightly funny order that not one individual writer is likely to fully agree with. But it's still a fine list. Here's entry number four…

4th place:

X-Men: First Class

Comic book movies live or die on the amount of emotional investment their characters can generate. X-Men: First Class was built entirely with that foundation, because if we don't want Charles and Erik to succeed, then the whole basis for the story and the franchise falls flat from the outset.

In this respect, the casting of these two parts was critical, and the choices »

Jack The Giant Killer Trailer Is Here Something Giant Is Coming...

19 December 2011 5:36 PM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

The parade of re-invented fairytales making their way to the screen shows no sign of stopping and now Bryan Singer's take on Jack And The Beanstalk, Jack The Giant Killer is stomping its way towards our cinemas. And thanks to the gang at Warners, you can take an exclusive first look at the trailer below.

In this version of the story, Jack (Nicholas Hoult) is still a humble farm lad, and comes into possession of those ever-potent magic beans. Despite a Gremlins-style admonition to never let them get wet, that's exactly what happens and soon a massive beanstalk has sprouted up, taking Jack's home and Princess Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson) with it. So Jack is forced to go on a mission to rescue her. Which would be difficult enough, but there are some giant problems lurking around.

You see, the kingdom Jack lives in has been in an uneasy peace with their giant neighbours, »

Jack the Giant Killer Trailer – First Look!

Once upon a time ago, giants ruled our land and the big boys are eager to reclaim what they lost. At least, that’s part of the twist in the new Jack the Giant Killer, based on the classic Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale.

The trend to twist fairy tales continues with Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and it looks like Jack, played by X-Men: First ClassNicholas Hoult, has his hands full with more action than one man can handle. Fortunately, he has Ewan McGregor and a small army of soldiers to help him defend the land and rescue the princess from the giants.

The magic beans are now holy relics that come with a warning – don’t get them wet – and the top of the beanstalk leads to a whole army of giants that seem eager to re-start »

'Jack the Giant Killer' trailer: Giants and beanstalks and Ian McShane, oh my!

16 December 2011 12:00 PM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Can you believe it took Hollywood this long to remake Mickey and the Beanstalk? In the new trailer for Jack the Giant Killer, Mickey Mouse is played by Nicholas Hoult, Donald Duck is played by Ian McShane, and Goofy is played by Ewan McGregor with a hobo accent — I smell Oscar! Nothing I just said is true, although all three actors will indeed appear in next year’s Jack, Bryan Singer’s adrenalized interpretation of the beloved children’s fairy tale about a spry young British lad giving them Cornish giants what for. 'Jack The Giant Killer' Trailer Goes Up The Beanstalk

16 December 2011 11:31 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Hollywood loves its remakes, and fairy tales are the easiest money of all. What child or adult in America isn't familiar with the story of Jack and the beanstalk, even if they're not clear on the specifics? Then again, the specifics can be largely invented based on whatever tired parent is telling the story to his kid: there are some beans, a beanstalk, some giants and a guy named Jack who fights them or tries to, at least.

In this regard, "Jack the Giant Killer" looks wholly familiar. The trailer opens with Nicholas Hoult as the titular Jack, palming a fistful of magic beans while a serious man tells him to be careful. Well, you know how it goes: the beans fall in some soil and water, then shoot up up thousands of feet into the sky, carrying Jack's house and the princess of the realm with it.

One thing's for certain, the trend of turning fairy tales into action-y, 3-D blockbusters with throbbing techno soundtracks is alive and well. So what's the latest childhood story taking to the big screen? Jack and the Beanstalk. X-Men director Bryan Singer and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) are teaming up for Jack the Giant Killer and are taking on all sorts of black magic and, of course, a very large antagonist... Right away, Hoult looks confused. As he holds the legendary beans in his hand, he wonders, How can these really be the holy relics and elements of darkness he's been told they are? And why can't he get them wet again? A rainstorm puts that all in perspective once when the »
